Just over a year ago, back when Twitter’s fate was still in the balance, the company came out with its Circle feature. This feature lets users share tweets only with a designated group of followers. Well, according to the Twitter help center (via The Verge), Twitter Circles are shutting down.

Since Elon Musk took over Twitter, it’s been a roller coaster, and this coaster is always going downward. Just recently, Twitter alternative Bluesky just received its largest influx of signups after Elon announced his plans to make Twitter a fully paid platform. The former gained more than 50,000 new users in just one day, which says a lot. We’re not sure if Elon will go through with this or not, so we’ll just have to wait on that.

Twitter Circles are shutting down

This feature is loved by most people. It gives people the ability to post only for people who share their interests. Also, people can post their opinions without the chance of them getting shot down. It’s a way to spark conversations with your friends.

However, all good things must come to an end, and this one is coming to an end a bit too soon. Twitter Circles came around in August 2022. However, the company announced that the feature is shutting down on October 31st. That’s only one year and two months.

The company didn’t give any reason as to why it’s shutting this feature down. We wouldn’t be surprised if this was some way to combat data scraping or bot accounts. In any case, when the feature is gone, you won’t be able to add people to your circles. However, it almost sounds like your circles will still exist, as you’ll be able to remove people from your circles after October 31st. The company will give you instructions on how to do it.

As more people leave Twitter for its alternatives, we’re not sure that Elon should be taking away beloved features if he wants the company to stay afloat.
