If you know anything about Google, you’d know that the company is avid about adding AI into its services. One service getting the AI treatment is Files by Google. We’ve been following rumors about the new Smart Search feature coming to Files by Google, and it looks like it’s expanding to more people.

What is Smart Search? This is a new and interesting feature coming to the app. It will take your more important documents and categorize them for you. If you upload images of your Driver’s license, I.D, birth certificate, or other important documents, the app will group them together. This means that it will use AI to scan the documents for you.

After the app scans those documents, it will put them in a new Important tab on the bottom bar. That way, if you have any important documents on your phone, you’ll be able to access them more easily.

This serves two great purposes. Firstly, if you need to present those documents, you won’t have to go searching through your phone to find them. Secondly, you don’t want to keep those files on your phone for too long, but it can be easy to forget that you have them stored. This section keeps those documents surfaced, so you more easily remember to delete them.

Smart Search in Files by Google is expanding to more people

When people first started seeing this feature, it was not available to everyone. We were wondering about the company’s plan for this feature. However, according to Android Police, the Smart Search feature seems to be expanding to more people. It started showing up for more people and some of AP’s team members. The feature seems to be making its way around the world.

If you don’t like the thought of this feature, there are a few things to know. Firstly, Google states that the information it scans doesn’t leave the device. So, your information stays on your device. Secondly, if you don’t want the feature, you can disable it.

At this point, we don’t know how Google is expanding this feature, so you’ll just want to keep an eye out for the update.
