Samsung‘s October update is now available for all recent Galaxy foldables in the US. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 started getting the latest security patch last week. The company is now pushing it to the 2022 and 2021 lineups as well, i.e. the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The October update rolls out to 3rd, 4th, and 5th-gen Galaxy foldables

The US versions of the fifth-gen Galaxy foldables were the first to receive Samsung’s October 2023 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) globally. The company pushed the update to both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the new Fold and Flip models last week. It has since been expanding the rollout to international markets.

Meanwhile, the last two generations of Galaxy foldables are now picking up the latest security patch in the US. The update is rolling out with the firmware build number F926USQS4GWI3 for the carrier-locked Galaxy Z Fold 3. That for the unlocked variant is F926U1UES4GWI3. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is receiving it with the build numbers F711USQS5GWI3 and F711U1UES5GWI3, respectively.

For the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the new build numbers are F936USQS3DWI1 and F936U1UES3DWI1, respectively. Finally, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is getting build numbers F721USQS3DWI1 and F721U1UES3DWI1 for the carrier-locked and unlocked variants, respectively. None of these foldables is receiving new features or functional improvements with this update. Samsung is only pushing this month’s security fixes to the devices.

Note that these foldables are also getting the latest SMR in international markets, including in Europe and Latin America. The build number may vary according to the region, but the changelog mostly remains the same. The update brings security fixes that are part of Google’s latest security patch for Android devices. Samsung has added a few Galaxy-specific fixes too.

Overall, the October SMR for Galaxy devices patches 46 vulnerabilities, at least two of which are confirmed to be critical flaws. If you’re using any of these foldables or any other Samsung phone and have yet to receive the latest update, you can check for it from the Settings app.

All of these Samsung phones will get the Android 14 update

This might be the last Android 13-based update for some of these Galaxy foldables if not all. Samsung is preparing to push Android 14 to all of them, with the rollout expected to begin as early as this month. It could take a while before the new Android version reaches all eligible models, but the company should push it to all flagship models before the end of the year. We will keep you posted.
