Sony may not be the first name that comes to your mind when we say fast Android updates, but here we are. The Japanese firm has just released the Android 14 update for the Xperia 10 V. It’s the second Sony phone to get the big update in a week, following the Xperia 1 V a few days back.
Sony pushes Android 14 to the Xperia 10 V
As for the Xperia 1 V, Sony took to X to announce the Android 14 update for the Xperia 10 V. The company didn’t share the full changelog but gave us a comprehensive idea of the changes in tow. Firstly, the new Android version brings support for the Find My Device app. This app lets you find your lost devices, including phones, tablets, Wear OS watches, and earbuds signed in with a Google Account.
The app shows the device’s current location (or last known location) so you can track it easily. You can also remotely lock the device and erase stored data if you fear that the device has landed in the wrong hands. Android 14 also brings the new and improved Nearby Share feature to the Sony Xperia 10 V. It lets you wirelessly send files from your Windows computers (Windows 10 and later) to your Xperia.
The big Android update adds customizable lockscreen shortcuts too. You can add shortcuts to your frequently used apps to the phone’s lockscreen for quick access. You can also set these shortcuts to execute specific functions such as enabling Do Not Disturb or turning on the flashlight. These customizations are available under the Wallpaper and style settings.
Along with these new features, Android 14 brings improvements to many other existing features and apps on the Xperia 10 V. Sony says it has improved Game enhancer, Photo Pro, Video Pro, and External monitor apps “to ramp up the entertainment capabilities of your Xperia device.” The updates will make for a more enjoyable home entertainment, the company adds. Privacy and security enhancements are part of the package too.
This update should soon reach users globally
As of this writing, Sony’s big Android 14 update for the Xperia 10 V appears to be limited to users in Europe and the UK. The new build number for the phone is 68.1.A.2.93 (via GSMArena). A global rollout should be just around the corner. If you’re using the device, watch out for a notification in the coming days. The Xperia 5 V should also soon make the jump to Android 14.
