Samsung‘s newly-launched premium mid-range smartphone Galaxy A54 5G is receiving a big software update. The handset is picking up the latest security patch and seemingly some new features and improvements as well. It may be getting the Image Clipper feature.
Samsung started rolling out the latest update to the Galaxy A54 5G a few days back. The new OTA (0ver the air) software release for the phone is already available widely in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and Australia. The update in the former three markets comes with the firmware build number A546EXXU2AWDB. That for the Australian region, including New Zealand, is A546EXXU2AWDC. Users in Europe and the US can expect to get this update in the coming days.
Despite a slightly different build number, Samsung is pushing the same content to the Galaxy A54 5G everywhere. The company’s official changelog states that the phone is picking up improved Camera and Gallery functions with this update, along with the latest security patch. While it doesn’t go into detail about what has been improved, it appears the Image Clipper feature is part of this firmware release. That’s because the OTA file is pretty huge, weighing almost a gigabyte (via Twitter).
For the uninitiated, Image Clipper is a new Gallery feature for Galaxy smartphones. Samsung launched this feature with the Galaxy S23 series and has been pushing it to other devices ever since. It lets you quickly crop out objects from images and save them as separate images or paste them on other apps. All you need to do is press and hold onto an object you want to crop out while viewing a photo in the Gallery app. It will pop out after a few seconds. The feature doesn’t work in third-party image-viewing apps.
The Galaxy A54 5G is also getting the May security patch
As mentioned earlier, the latest update for the Galaxy A54 5G brings the latest security patch as well. Samsung’s May SMR (Security Maintenance Release) contains fixes for more than 70 vulnerabilities, including at least six critical issues. These include both Android OS patches and Galaxy-specific ones coming directly from Samsung.
If you’re using this new premium mid-range Galaxy smartphone, these security fixes and Image Clipper should be available to you anytime now if they haven’t already. Watch out for a notification prompting you to download the new OTA update. You can also manually check for updates from the Software update section in the Settings app.
