Rumors have been back and forth when it comes to the name of Apple’s most powerful iPhone 15 handset. Rumors have been saying both ‘Pro Max’ and ‘Ultra’ will be used. We haven’t really heard anything regarding the ‘Ultra’ name for a while, until now. Apple’s top-end iPhone 15 could get a new name after all, based on new info.
Apple’s top-end iPhone 15 to ship with a powerful zoom camera, and new name
This information comes from Andrew O’Hara, a journalist from Apple Insider. He said that he heard, from multiple sources, that Apple will go with the iPhone 15 Ultra name after all.
This does make sense, as the top-end Apple Watch has the ‘Ultra’ moniker. Many people would also agree that it’s a better name than ‘Pro Max’ either way. So… there you have it, chances are this info is accurate.
That’s not all he shared, however. He also mentioned that the phone will feature a more powerful zoom camera than we thought. The iPhone 15 Ultra is tipped to include a 10x optical camera, not a 5x or 6x one as rumored before.
We still don’t know what sensor Apple plans to use for the periscope telephoto camera
That will be the very first periscope telephoto camera on an iPhone. We still don’t know what sensor will Apple use, however. The Sony IMX903 is rumored for the main camera, but that’s all we know thus far.
The iPhone 15 Ultra is tipped to launch on September 12 or 13, alongside its siblings. The iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 15 Pro are also expected to arrive. They’re rumored to go on pre-order on September 15, and on open sale on September 22.
Having said that, all iPhone 15 models will include a Type-C USB port. That’s a first for iPhones. Also, Apple’s Dynamic Island cutout and functionality will be included on all four models.
The ‘Pro’ and ‘Ultra’ models are also expected to include titanium frames, and thinner bezels. The ‘Ultra’ is the only model that will include a periscope telephoto camera, it seems.
