Best Buy has finally started to sell unlocked iPhones. But it’s not all good news here, unfortunately. Best Buy is apparently only selling older models, from the iPhone 13 and older. So the new iPhone 14 series, which isn’t really new since it launched 7 months ago, is not available unlocked from Best Buy.
However, this is a good way to pick up a new unlocked iPhone 13 Mini, before the Mini iPhones are gone forever.
Unlocked iPhones are available at every Best Buy location and Bestbuy.com
According to the company, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series as well as the iPhone SE (3rd Gen) is available from your local Best Buy store, as well as Bestbuy.com.
Before today, Best Buy only sold iPhones that worked on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. You would need to activate it on one of those networks, and not able to take it to just any old MVNO that you might want to use. Like Google Fi, Straight Talk or others. But now, you can. This does give customers more flexibility here, as Best Buy has over 1,000 stores across the US, and not to mention Bestbuy.com is very easy to buy from and get curbside pickup.
Best Buy is not selling unlocked iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro models, unfortunately. That might change in the future, but for now, it’s just the iPhone 12 and 13 series. If you want an unlocked iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro model, you’ll need to head over to Apple. Which might be why Best Buy is not selling those – Apple wants those customers to go straight to them.
Carrier locked phones is pretty stupid, and hopefully that goes away in the future. But for now, it’s an evil that we in the US have to deal with. With an unlocked iPhone, you can take it anywhere you want, which is a great taste of freedom.
