Google’s Gboard is full of a ton of useful features that make the typing experience that much better. The company is planning on revamping its keyboard, and that may bring another functionality. According to 9To5Google, Gboard May bring a shortcut to help you resize it.
This came from an APK deep dive from 9To5Google, so you want to take this information with a grain of salt. Code for this feature was hidden within the app’s APK, but it doesn’t mean that the feature is functional. Also, Google can take this feature away at any point, so there’s no guarantee that it will come.
Google might add a resize shortcut to Gboard
You’re currently able to resize your keyboard using Gboard. You will have to go to your settings and find the keyboard height setting. There, you can choose between six different height presets: extra-short, short, mid-short, normal, mid-tall, tall, and extra-tall. That’s a good feature to have, but this new shortcut will give you more customization options.
After the revamp, you will see a resize button next to the other shortcuts. When you press it, you’ll see the keyboard pop out and have a border around it. At the top and bottom of the keyboard, you’ll see little dots. You will use dots to adjust the height of the keyboard.
In the middle of the keyboard, you’ll see three buttons. The one on the left looks like an Undo button, and the one on the right looks like a confirm button. The one in the middle looks like it will allow you to move the actual keyboard up and down. This will let you pick the right spot for the keyboard to sit.
One thing to note is that this new shortcut might not allow you to adjust the width of the keyboard. It may only pertain to the height. Currently, when you resize the keyboard, the aspect ratio remains consistent, leading to an overall smaller or larger keyboard. However, if you only want to adjust the height, this new iteration might come useful.
Currently, we’re not sure when exactly this feature will come out. Make sure to stay tuned for more on this story.
