If you already make use of the Google Voice app, you can be sure to get Material You theming soon. Ever since this feature became available to Android devices, it has been making its way to various apps. Google apps were some of the first to get this feature after it became available with the release of Android 12.
This release came about two years ago and has grown in popularity and adoption ever since. But why is the Google Voice app just getting this feature now? A ton of other Google apps have already got Material You integration over the past two years.
There are a ton of changes this brings to the app’s design that you are already familiar with. These changes will help the Google Voice app to blend in well with your Android device’s overall theming.
Google Voice Material You theming is here, but why the delay
To start, it is important to know what the Google Voice app is all about. It is simply a call management app that helps businesses better handle their team calls and messages. Most people might not be able to tell the difference between the Voice app and the phone by Google app.
Well, the Phone by Google app comes bundled with your Android device and helps you to access and reach out to your contacts. The Voice app does this, but in a different way that is more business-friendly. It is a voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) service that enables you to make calls with any device that has an internet connection.
With this app, you can call your clients from a laptop, PC, or smartphone as long as there is an internet connection. Despite its business-oriented approach, this app isn’t part of Google’s Workspace services. This might be a reason why it is one of the last Google apps to get Material You integration.
Regardless, this integration is finally here for users of the Voice app. Some new design elements with Material You integration include reshaping certain parts of the app. The search bar and the indicator on the navigation bar now have pill-shaped cutouts.
Other design changes include the Dynamic colour theming to match the app with your device’s wallpaper. Also, most icons within the app now have more rounded corners, which helps improve its looks. These changes are currently rolling out via an update on the Google Play Store and will soon become available to all regions.
