Yesterday, Google put out a few teasers, to let us know what to expect at their October 4 launch in New York City. And today, the company put out another video. This time, showing the Pixel Watch 2 from every angle. And while we know the Pixel Watch 2 is coming, and was shown off in the video, we’re starting to see a few other details.
At the very start of the video, you can see on the backside of the watch “IP68” and also what looks to be “Pixel Watch 2”. Which does definitely confirm the name, though Google did also call it that in its post on X.
This means that the Pixel Watch 2 is going to be IP68, which is a big deal. That is going to let you wear it in the shower, take it to the beach or the pool and go swimming and much more. It’s a little surprising that the first Pixel Watch wasn’t waterproof, since other Fitbits have been for quite some time.
Google pre-announced the Pixel Watch 2
After giving us a sneak peak at the Pixel 8 series yesterday, now Google’s doing the same with the Pixel Watch 2. It’s a bit of an interesting move for Google. Whereas most companies want to keep leaks down and as a secret ahead of the launch, Google is doing the opposite. Though this isn’t new for them. They kinda started doing this a few years ago with the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G.
It’s interesting, because of the timing. We’re just days away from the iPhone event, which is going to be the most watched smartphone launch of the year. And it appears that Google wants to get some of that attention off of Apple. And in doing so, basically announced all of their products ahead of the October 4 event.
