Spotted in some code from the iOS 17 Release Candidate, Apple is apparently preparing a new feature that will allow you to set the maximum charging percentage. As you all likely know, charging your phone to 100% everyday isn’t the best for the battery. It’s not the worst either, however. But charging your phone to 80% or 90% everyday is even healthier for it. So with this feature, you’ll be able to set it to only charge to 80%.
It’s a pretty simple feature. Once the feature is turned on, the phone will stop charging once it hits the target percentage.
Will this improve iPhone battery health greatly?
Will this greatly improve the battery health on your iPhone? Probably not. You likely won’t see much of a difference in the first year or two. It’s after two years, that you might see a bigger difference. So if you are one of those that plans to keep your phone for many years, this is going to be a very helpful feature.
Don’t forget, however, that battery health will always diminish after some time. As you are using your phone, and charging it, all has an impact on the battery life. Though some things might have a bigger impact on it than others. The best advice here is to, just use your phone. Don’t really worry about battery health. Just use it like you want to. There’s no sense in optimizing your charging habits to keep your battery health in tip-top shape, and keep from using your phone. You bought the phone to use it, so do that.
