HBO Max officially converts to Max today. Warner Bros. Discovery has long said that it has built the new streaming service from the ground up to offer a better experience to users. It brings new features, enhanced functionality, and a bigger collection of movies, TV shows, and other content. Reports are that Max will feature more than double the hours of programming offered by HBO Max. And a lot of that will be available in 4K UHD. According to the company, its new streaming platform will offer eight times more films and episodes in 4K UHD than HBO Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery is offering three subscription tiers for Max. The entry-level Ad-Lite costs $9.99/month or $99.99/year and gives you two concurrent streams, 1080p maximum resolution, and 5.1 surround sound quality. It lacks download support for offline viewing. The $15.99/month or $149.99/year Ad-Free tier adds support for 30 offline downloads. Finally, we have the Ultimate Ad-Free tier ($19.99/month or $199.99/year) that offers four concurrent streams, up to 4K UHD resolution, 100 offline downloads, Dolby Atmos sound quality, Dolby Vision, and HDR10.

If you pick up the Ultimate Ad-Free tier of Max, you get access to a wide range of 4K UHD content. As said earlier, it will offer eight times more content in ultra-high resolution than the platform it’s replacing. The list includes some popular titles such as Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Dark Knight trilogy, and The Matrix. “Max will offer more than 1,000 films and episodes in 4K at launch, and we’ll be adding more every month as we move forward,” said Sudheer Sirivara of Warner Bros. Discovery. You can find the full list of 4K content available on Max here.

Existing HBO Max subscribers will get access to Max for at least six months

With Max adding more content and new features, many existing HBO Max subscribers are wondering what will happen to their subscriptions. Warner Bros. Discovery assures that they will have access to their current plan features for at least six months starting today. Everything from their profiles and settings to watch history, “Continue Watching”, and “My List” items will carry over to Max. Their apps may also be automatically updated, though there’s always the option of manual update.

At launch, Max will only be available in the US. But Warner Bros. Discovery plans to expand the availability to all markets where HBO MAx is already available over time. It will begin with Latin America later in 2023. Select countries in Europe and Asia will get HBO Max in 2024.
