ASUS has taken a bold step in redesigning its flagship gaming laptops, the ROG Zephyrus G14 and G16, bringing a perfect blend of performance and a sophisticated gamer aesthetic. The most significant change lies in the new CNC-machined aluminum chassis, featuring clean minimalist lines and a stiffer, more durable construction. Both models are now smaller, up to 4mm thinner, and lighter by up to 0.3 pounds compared to the previous generation.

The keycaps of the new Zephyrus models are 12 percent larger, and the interior accommodates 20 percent larger speakers. ASUS has opted for a stylish approach, replacing excessive RGB lighting with a single white LED strip across the lid, available in Eclipse Gray or Platinum White.

The ROG Zephyrus G14 is powered by Ryzen R9, while the ROG Zephyrus G16 offers Intel® Core Ultra 9

A major enhancement comes in the form of the display, making the Zephyrus G14 and G16 the first ROG laptops to feature OLED panels. The G14 boasts a 3K 120Hz screen, while the G16 offers a 2.5K 240Hz option, both with 16:10 aspect ratios, VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, NVIDIA G-Sync support, and a rapid 0.2ms gray-to-gray response time. The laptops exude a sophisticated visual appeal, with a subtle white LED strip on the lid.

ASUS has tailored the hardware based on the size of the new Zephyrus models. Asus equips the Zephyrus G14 with AMD Ryzen 8000 series processors and up to NVIDIA RTX 4070 graphics, while the larger G16 features an Intel Core Ultra 9 chip with up to an RTX 4090 GPU. Both versions max out at 32GB of DDR5X RAM. Variances include a microSD card reader on the G14 and a full-size option on the G16, along with a larger 90Whr battery on the G14. Notably, ASUS introduces its Slim Power jack as the default charging port, resembling USB-C in reversibility but with a slightly boxier connector.

The laptops feature a solid set of ports, including a full-size HDMI 2.1 socket. While ASUS missed incorporating support for Wi-Fi 7, the prevalence of Wi-Fi 6e compensates for it. ASUS plans to release both the G14 and G16 in black and silver colors, with the official sale expected to commence in February. Although ASUS hasn’t disclosed the pricing details yet, you can expect updates right here as more information becomes available.

Apple is diligently enhancing its AI technology. The iPhone maker is rolling out new tools to assist developers in creating apps with Xcode and enhancing the functionality of their productivity apps. Despite Apple trailing behind technologies like OpenAI’s ChatGPT in certain aspects, it aims to showcase some of its innovative work to the public by the summer at WWDC 2024.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has confirmed that Apple will unveil these new updates at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June. So, we hope to see Apple’s generative AI updates on iOS 18. These updates will include new features for apps like Pages and Keynote, like automatic summaries and help in typing. Apple Music will also get new features that use AI to help make playlists. Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, will also get a big update and a new look.

Apple’s Xcode could be a boon for developers

Apple is making big changes behind the scenes. They’re improving a tool called Xcode that helps app makers. This updated Xcode will use AI to make coding easier and faster. Apple is also creating an AI system to help AppleCare workers solve problems.

But, Apple’s full AI plans won’t be ready right away. It might take until 2025. This matches earlier hints that Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, is focusing more on AI. Apple has also talked with news companies about using old articles to train its AI for a fee.

Meta announced it will start hiding harmful content for Instagram and Facebook teen accounts. The company confirmed that it will automatically place all teens accounts into “the most restrictive control settings” on both its social networks, Instagram and Facebook.

Besides that, Meta will restrict additional terms in Search on Instagram. Harmful and other types of age-inappropriate content aren’t usually recommended to teens in places like Reels and Explore, but once these changes are implemented, Meta will no longer show it too teens in Feed and Stories, even if it’s shared by someone they follow.

New teens who join Instagram and Facebook will now have their accounts placed into the most restrictive content control setting by default. In the future, this will expand to teens who are already using both Meta’s social apps.

Another important change involves content about suicide, self-harm and eating disorders. While these topics are very serious and must be treated accordingly, Meta will start hiding related results when teens search for these specific terms.

Instead, teens will be directed to expert resources for help. According to Meta, this specific update will roll out for everyone over the coming weeks.

Last but not least, Meta will start sending new notifications encouraging teens to update their settings to a more private experience. If they choose to “Turn on recommended settings,” Meta will automatically change their settings to restrict who can repost their content, tag or mention them, as well as include their content in Reels Remixes. Right now, CES 2024 is going on, but there’s another event that the tech world is equally excited about, and that’s Samsung’s next unpacked event. This is the event where we’ll see the official unveiling of the Galaxy S24 phones. We’ve received several leaks about these phones over the past couple of months. And, they keep coming! As if we haven’t gotten enough information about these phones, WinFuture, in collaboration with Roland Quandt, gave us the spec sheets for the Galaxy S24 phones.

These spec sheets leave very little to the imagination. However, even though these are both reputable sources, you’ll still want to take this news cautiously. There’s always the chance that some information might not be 100% accurate. In any case, we still expect these to paint a pretty in-depth picture of how these phones will be.

We have the spec sheets for the Galaxy S24 phones

So, the spec sheets pretty much outline every possible spec for these phones along with the model numbers.

Galaxy S24

Starting off with a Galaxy S24 (SM-S921B), it says that the phone will have a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate. We’re looking at an FHD+ resolution, and that should come as no surprise. It also says that this will have the LTPO technology that will allow the refresh rate to drop to as low as 1Hz.

Moving on to the internals, the spec sheet says that this phone will launch with the Exynos 2400 decacore SOC (this could be for the European market). Backing that up, we have 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage.

The leak says that the S24 could have a triple camera set up with a 50-megapixel main camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel Ultra-wide camera. Up front, we’re looking at a 12-megapixel selfie camera. As for the battery, we’re looking at a sizable 4,000mAh battery with up to 25W charging and 15W wireless charging.

The Galaxy S24 may Launch with a starting price of €899.

Galaxy S24+

Moving on to the larger sibling, the Galaxy S24+ (SM-S926B) could come with a larger 6.7-inch display that uses the same Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology and the same LTPO technology as the base Galaxy S24. What makes this different is the sharper QHD+ display.

Moving on to the internals, this phone will share the same SoC as its smaller sibling, but it will come with more storage and RAM. The processor is backed up by 12GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB of internal storage.

The Galaxy S24+ could share the same camera specs as the Galaxy S24. As for the battery, it could have a much larger 4,900mAh battery with faster 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

The Galaxy S24+ could possibly start at €1,149 when it launches.

Galaxy S24 Ultra

Now, moving on to the most premium and fully-featured device, the Galaxy S24 Ultra (SM-S928B
)is rumored to have a slightly larger 6.8-inch display. Rumor says that it will use the same technology as the other siblings. It’ll just be larger, much more square, and flat this time around.

For the European market, it looks like the Galaxy S24 Ultra will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, foregoing the Exynos option. As for the RAM and storage, this phone will come with 12GB of RAM with 256GB/512GB/1TB of onboard storage.

Moving on to the camera, this phone could have a quad-camera setup. We could be looking at a 200-megapixel main camera with a 50-megapixel telephoto, 10-megapixel telephoto, and 12-megapixel Ultra-wide camera. This is set to be one of the most powerful cameras of the year. It also shares the 12-megapixel selfie camera that we saw on the other phones.

Moving on to the battery, this phone could have a pretty standard 5,000mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. Also, it looks like this phone will have the S Pen just like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra. When it launches, this phone might start at a jaw-dropping €1,449.

Colors

Moving onto the possible colors, the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ could come in Cobalt Violet, Amber Yellow, Onyx Black, and Marble Gray. The Ultra model may come in Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow.

There are some Samsung-exclusive colors (colors you can only get if you order from Samsung.com). These are Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, and Sandstone Orange.

The Satechi SM1 is a slim mechanical keyboard with a 75% setup

The Satechi SM1 keyboard is the very first keyboard from the company made to seamlessly function with both Mac and Windows. This is a rechargeable keyboard that features a 75% layout. It includes low-profile brown switches and four-device connectivity.

There are 14 different backlight patterns that you can choose from. A lock screen shortcut has also been added for security (macOS only). This keyboard features an aluminum enclosure, removable keycaps, and adjustable feet. The company also says it’s ergonomic.

It is worth noting that there are three connectivity modes here. This keyboard supports Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi connectivity via a dongle (2.4GHz), and a wired mode. So you have plenty of options.

There is a 2,500mAh battery on the inside, and the keyboard can be recharged via a Type-C port. In addition to Windows and macOS, you can also use this keyboard with iOS, Chrome OS, and more, of course.

The company also announced new Qi2 wireless charging stands

Satechi introduced two new Qi2 wireless charging stands. One is a 2-in-1 stand, and the other is a 3-in-1 offering. Both of them are foldable by the way, as Satechi aims to offer you something for your travels.

These wireless charging stands are compatible with Qi2 devices and can provide up to 15W of power. They’re made out of aluminum and have a vegan leather base. There is also a soft silicone charging puck included. The hinges are also durable, claims the company.

These two devices are quite similar in terms of design, but the 3-in-1 model has an additional charger on the back, for the Apple Watch. That charger pops out once you unfold the charger. The 3-in-1 charging stand also comes with a 45W power adapter.

As you can see in the image provided below, these devices are quite compact when folded. Satechi’s 3-in-1 charging stand is priced at $129.99, while the 2-in-1 model costs $79.99. They will become available in Q2 this year.

Fed up with the constant intrusion of telemarketers and robocalls disrupting your daily routine? Google’s Call Screening, the feature that up to now has been exclusive to Pixel phones, may be expanding its availability to more countries, including India.

The handy call screening feature on Pixel devices automatically transcribes and filters incoming calls, providing you with an added layer of convenience and security. Although automatic call screening is currently only available in the US, manual call screening is known to be available in other countries. However, an intriguing finding on Reddit indicates that Google may be preparing for a more extensive release.

A Reddit user based in India (via Android Police), successfully activated Call Screening on a rooted and modified OnePlus 7, and screenshots unveiled the inclusion of Hindi transcription and response suggestions. Within these screenshots, you can find clear indications of a possible expansion of the feature to India and other regions, along with the addition of new language support.

Below are the additional languages that were spotted as ones that will be supported in the future, suggesting more possible regions where Call Screening could eventually be expanding to:

  • Deutsch – Belgium, Austria, Switzerland
  • Espanol – USA (EE.UU)
  • France – Belgium, Switzerland
  • Italiano – Switzerland & Italy
  • Portuguese – Brazil
  • English, Hindi – India

Although none of these findings are official in nature, the speculation is that these could possibly be in line to be revealed for the next Pixel Feature Drop, which is slated for March 2024. Currently, Call Screening works with the Pixel 5 up to the Pixel 8, which should be the same devices that should benefit from this feature should it expand to other countries as well.
As noted by AP, Samsung has already introduced a call screening feature on its phones in India, which is known as Bixby Text Call. Unfortunately, the current version of the software only supports English and does not include Hindi, the widely spoken language in the region. Should Google proceed with support for Hindi in Call Screening in India, this could open the doors for Call Screening to becoming more widely used globally.

The OSIM uLove 3 Well-Being Chair doesn’t have the most fortunate name, it’s a mouthful. Still, it does seem like an interesting product. This chair has been designed by Pininfarina, a well-known Italian company that has been in the business since 1930.

The OSIM Well-Being App generates an AI Stress Analysis that measures Body Tension Scores using biosensors with electrocardiogram (ECG) technology for this chair. Based on the results of those tests, the uLove 3 chair then creates a Personalized Body Tension Program, says the company.

That program includes varying massage intensities and music too. All that should help reduce stress. The company’s app also monitors Body Tension Scores and various other well-being indicators over time. You can get a ton of personalized insights thanks to this.

The OSIM uThrone V Gaming Massage Chair can massage your neck and shoulders

The OSIM uThrone V Gaming Massage Chair is another interesting product from the company. This chair has a 4-piece protective cover that has been designed by Pininfarina. It utilizes cooling fabric material, and it adapts to different temperatures.

This chair comes with OSIM’s V-Hand Massage, which makes gamers “feel the skill of a masseuse’s hands across their neck”. 360-degree massage rollers are included here, and will massage you across the neck and shoulders. Gliding movements across the lumbar region have also been mentioned.

This chair has a 145-degree reclining mechanism, adjustable gaming armrests, and seat height that you can adjust. OSIM’s base massage capabilities are also included in the package.

The OSIM DIY Massage Chair allows you to turn any chair into a massage chair

This product is for those of you who want more flexible solutions. This package basically allows you to turn any chair into a massage chair. Photo Plethysmography (PPG) is used to measure stress levels, though you’ll need your phone and OSIM’s app for that. It will be required for various other measurements.

The OnePlus 12R will be identical to the OnePlus Ace 3. That goes for both its design and specifications. Considering that the OnePlus Ace 3 already launched in China, we know exactly what to expect.

This handset will be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

The phone will include a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display. That panel will be curved, and its refresh rate will be able to jump between 1 and 120Hz. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will fuel the OnePlus 12R.

OnePlus will utilize LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage here. The phone will arrive in both 12GB and 16GB RAM variants. A 50-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IMX890 sensor), will be backed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 2-megapixel macro unit.

A 5,500mAh battery will also be a part of the package. This smartphone will support 100W wired charging, but no wireless charging. The charger will be included in the package, though.

Its price will be quite appealing

One of the most exciting aspects of the OnePlus 12R is its price tag. Well, at least based on a recent rumor. The phone is said to cost $499 in the US, its base model (8GB RAM + 128GB storage). The more powerful variant (16GB RAM + 256GB storage) will set you back $599.

Perhaps, you’d know that using artificial intelligence (AI) to generate images has been a risky business. Because AI models like OpenAI’s DALL-E 3 train on vast datasets of images online. Nevertheless, one recent research also pointed out the use of child imagery in these datasets. However, iStock’s tool uses technology from Nvidia called the Picasso model and learns from Getty’s and iStock’s photo collections. It doesn’t use Getty’s news or famous people’s photos to make sure it doesn’t accidentally copy any trademarks or well-known faces.

It comes at $14.99 for 100 requests, and each gives four images

Getty’s Grant Farhall explained to The Verge that iStock designed its new AI tool for small to medium businesses that need stock photos. This tool helps users save time and get specific photos without using a real camera. All of this comes at a charge, and using the iStock AI will cost $14.99 for 100 requests. Each request gives four images.

There’s a key difference from Getty Images’ AI platform: the iStock service doesn’t offer unlimited legal protection. Users are covered up to $10,000 per image, which is the same as the current license for their regular photo library. Contributors whose content helped train the AI model can also share in the revenue.

Additionally, the iStock platform will soon have features called Inpainting and Outpainting. Inpainting allows users to hide an area in an image and replace it with a person or object based on a written prompt. Outpainting lets users expand a photo for different sizes and fill in those new areas.

YouTube is implementing new measures to tackle the rise of AI-generated deepfakes that “realistically simulates” deceased minors or victims of violent events describing their deaths. The policy change, set to take effect on January 16, aims to address instances where AI is used to recreate the likeness of deceased or missing children.

True crime content creators have been leveraging AI technologies to provide child victims of high-profile cases with a synthetic “voice” to narrate the circumstances of their deaths. The move comes in response to disturbing AI narrations of cases like the abduction and death of James Bulger, Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, and the torture-murder of Gabriel Fernández.

YouTube will remove content with AI-generated deepfakes that violates the new policies, and users receiving a strike will face a one-week restriction on uploading videos, live streaming, or stories. Persistent offenders with three strikes will have their channels permanently removed from the platform. This initiative is part of YouTube’s broader efforts to curb content that violates the harassment & cyberbullying policies of the platform.

Creators will need to disclose when they use altered or synthetic content that appears realistic

The platform introduced updated policies around responsible AI content disclosures a couple of months earlier, along with tools to request the removal of deepfakes. Users will need to disclose when they create altered content that appears realistic, with non-compliance risking penalties such as content removal, suspension from the YouTube Partner Program, or other disciplinary actions. The shift also mentioned that the platform will remove certain AI generated content if it portrays “realistic violence,” even if labeled appropriately.

The move aligns with broader industry trends addressing the responsible use of AI-generated content. In September 2023, TikTok introduced a tool for creators to label their AI-generated content following an update to its guidelines requiring the disclosure of synthetic or manipulated media depicting realistic scenes.

TikTok retains the authority to take down AI-generated images that lack proper disclosure. Both YouTube and TikTok’s measures reflect the growing awareness and concerns surrounding the potential misuse of AI technologies, particularly in sensitive and potentially harmful contexts such as the realistic portrayal of violence or the exploitation of tragic events. Meta also updated their policy towards the end of last year to counter deepfake ads during the 2024 election.
