[ad_1]

After exclusive official renders, we now exclusively bring you the key specs of the Samsung Galaxy A25 5G. Our trusted sources tell us that the upcoming mid-range smartphone will get a selfie camera upgrade. The Korean firm will also offer an IP rating for dust and water resistance, which was missing on the Galaxy A24.

Samsung Galaxy A25 5G key specs

Word has reached us that Samsung will equip the Galaxy A25 5G with a 6.44-inch display. It should be a Super AMOLED panel with an FHD+ resolution at a 90Hz or 120Hz refresh rate. An octa-core chipset is at the helm of the phone, likely Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1280. It’s a 5nm chipset with two ARM Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.

Samsung is readying the phone in two memory and storage configurations: 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB. You also get support for microSD cards of up to 1TB capacity. The device will run Android 14 out of the box, which means One UI 6 experience from day one. You get NFC connectivity here, along with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and dual-SIM support. The phone boasts 25W fast charging via a USB-C port, with a 5,000mAh battery expected.

Now, time for the big revelation. The Galaxy A25 5G is getting a 32MP selfie camera with a 123-degree field of view. We don’t have full details but it may be the same front camera found on the Galaxy A54 5G. Samsung equipped the Galaxy A24 with a 13MP selfie shooter, so this is a massive upgrade. The addition of IP67 dust and water resistance is another big upgrade for the new mid-range phone. This reduces the gap to its high-end siblings.

Thanks to certifications, benchmarks, and earlier rumors, we also know that the Galaxy A25 5G is getting a higher resolution ultrawide camera—a jump from 5MP to 8MP. The 2MP macro camera may carry over unchanged. The primary rear camera should offer OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), while we are expecting 1080p video recording with both front and back cameras. A side-mounted capacitive fingerprint scanner is part of the package too.

This phone will get four major Android OS updates

The new mid-range phone from Samsung lacks premium features such as wireless charging and stereo speakers. However, it will get four major Android OS updates, as many as the Galaxy S23 series. It will debut with Android 14 and get updates up to Android 18. The Korean firm is readying the device in Black, Blue, Silver, and Yellow colors. It should go official sometime next year with a starting price of around $300. Stay tuned for the official announcement.

xMEMS claims its new speaker “reinvents how humans experience sound”

0
[ad_1]

A new silicon speaker is on the way, from xMEMS. Now, this new speaker will “reinvent how humans experience sound”, says xMEMS. The name of the thing is Cypress MEMS, and it’s rather interesting.

xMEMS claims its new micro speaker basically “reinvents how humans experience sound”

Now, just to be clear, this speaker is supposed to be used in tiny products, such as truly wireless earbuds. The company claims that it achieves 40x louder bass, and that you’ll be able to experience that at CES 2024. The company will be there to show it off.

Furthermore, this speaker achieves >140dB low-frequency sound pressure level (SPL). Thanks to that, xMEMS said it enables “a no-compromise replacement for legacy, century-old coil speakers in noise canceling earbuds”. These are actually some huge promises from xMEMS.

This is a solid-state, all-silicon micro speaker, as that’s what the company specializes in. The company also says that this speaker will help provide “ultra high-quality, high-resolution sound experiences across all audio frequencies”.

The Cypress MEMS replaces legacy push-air sound reproduction

With the Cypress MEMS speaker, xMEMS has replaced legacy push-air sound reproduction with its ultrasonic amplitude modulation transduction principle. That’s a mouthful.

Now, the ultrasonic modulation turns ultrasonic air pulses into “rich, detailed, bass-heavy, high-fidelity sound”, says xMEMS. The company also claims that this is the very first no-compromise alternative to the regular moving-coil concept.

The company’s VP of Marketing & Business Development said: “Cypress maintains all of the benefits of xMEMS’ existing speakers, while being 40x louder in low frequencies, achieving a key requirement for ANC earbuds”.

The usual way of generating sound is “inefficient”, says the company

It is said that legacy coil speakers generate sound in the audible band, which is “inefficient”. The Cypress MEMS is supposed to change that entirely. The way xMEMS presents this speaker, it’s something worth noting, as it could change things considerably, but it remains to be seen, of course.

The company says that the Cypress MEMS is currently sampling to select early customers. Production-candidate samples should be available in June next year, while the mass production is planned for late 2024.

As mentioned earlier, the company will demo this new speaker at CES 2024.

What Does PCI DSS 4.0 Mean for API?

0
[ad_1]
PCI DSS 4.0 API

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard or PCI DSS 4.0 was released in May 2022 by the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC).

After using PCI DSS 3.2.1 for several years, PCI DSS 4.0 is the latest security standard version designed to protect credit cards, ensuring their secure processing.

PCI SSC has released this version of the credit card compliance and security standards as the new set of requirements and best practices to be followed by all organizations that collect, store, process, or transmit payment card data.

What are the latest requirements as per PCI DSS 4.0? Does it apply to API security? If yes, how? Keep reading to find out.

What is PCI DSS Compliance?

PCI DSS is the global standard for entities that collect, store, transmit, process, handle, or accept credit, debit, or prepaid card data, regardless of the volume of processed data must follow.

It is a set of robust processes, security standards, and best practices created by major credit card companies, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, and JCB, to protect sensitive cardholder data and authentication data.

PCI DSS compliance enables organizations to ensure the safety and security of cardholder information while protecting the payments being made/ processed. PCI security instills a sense of trust and confidence among cardholders that their information and money are protected.

Whether the organization processes/ transmits/ manages card data through an app, API, phone, internet, paper, or person, they must follow the rules laid down by this credit card compliance standard.

For every organization, be it an MNC, an e-commerce platform, an online shopping app, or a small coffee shop, PCI DSS compliance is the bare minimum to ensure card and payment safety.

Data breaches and security incidents involving credit, debit, and prepaid cards have devastating financial, reputational, and legal consequences for organizations.

So, PCI security helps prevent these costs, non-compliance fines, and legal action.

How is PCI DSS 4.0 Different from PCI DSS 3.2.1?

PCI DSS 4.0 is the latest iteration of the PCI compliance standard and replaces PCI DSS 3.2.1, which was released in 2018.

PCI SSC has been iterating and upgrading this security standard every few years following the fast-changing threat landscape and the changing nature of vulnerabilities in the card-processing ecosystem.

The critical changes in PCI DSS 4.0 can be summarized as follows:

  • Incorporation of new and innovative methods to combat known and emerging threats.
  • Greater flexibility in maintaining card and payment security.
  • Greater stress on viewing and treating card security as an ongoing process, not an end goal.
  • Improved methods and procedures for payment validation.
  • Ensures that the framework and processes follow the changing needs and context of the card-processing and payments ecosystem.
  • Allows for customized implementation of security controls to achieve PCI DSS compliance.

Is PCI DSS Compliance Needed for APIs?

Yes. If your APIs are used in processing, carrying, transmitting, or managing credit, debit, or other payment cards, you and your technical partners ensure that your APIs are PCI DSS compliant.

PCI DSS 4.0 Compliance and APIs

Organizations in online payments widely leverage APIs to help deliver faster and more seamless customer experiences. But APIs expose data, underlying business logic, and functionalities by their very nature. As a result, API processing/ handling online payments has become a big target for cybercriminals.

This is why PCI DSS 4.0 brings stringent security regulations to ensure robust payment security with far-reaching ramifications for API security.

These regulations are majorly found under requirement 6 of the latest iteration of the PCI DSS standard– Develop and Maintain Secure Systems and Software. Under this section, two specific requirements have ramifications for API security. Here they are:

6.2 – Bespoke and Custom Software are Developed Securely

Recently, a growing focus has been on the need to deliver secure-by-design apps and software by integrating security into the development stages. This is widely known as the shift-left approach and is what section 6.2 of PCI DSS 4.0 is broadly concerned with.

It stressed the need for organizations to identify and fix vulnerabilities, flaws, and misconfigurations in apps and APIs as early as possible in the development lifecycle.

This has two powerful benefits: it will not be a big problem in the development stages and will not delay releases.

Two, it will reduce the risk of vulnerabilities entering production and leaving the app, software, or API vulnerable to breaches and security threats.

In this section, 6.2.3 and 6.2.4 requirements are particularly important to APIs.

Requirement 6.2.3 requires that all bespoke and custom software/ applications be properly reviewed before they go into production for customer usage. In doing so, organizations can identify and fix potential coding errors and vulnerabilities.

This definition requires that all APIs also be included in the review process. Organizations need to ensure that their API Swagger files – machine-readable documents that describe the functionality of an API written in OpenAPI specifications – are effectively reviewed and vulnerabilities fixed before going into production.

By leveraging API-focused security tools like AppTrana, you can cross-reference Swagger files to ensure they are PCI DSS 4.0 compliant, secure, and without vulnerabilities. Such tools can detect differences between incoming API traffic and Swagger files.

Automating positive security models is a key value proposition for APIs within the AppTrana WAAP ecosystem.

This feature proves advantageous for teams without Swagger and Postman documentation for their APIs. The swagger file can be seamlessly developed automatically through the API discovery feature. Moreover, the managed services team is involved in generating Postman files for critical open APIs.

Requirement 6.2.4 requires that organizations define all methods and techniques software development professionals use to prevent/ mitigate common security attacks and related vulnerabilities in bespoke and custom software. These software attacks could include injection attacks (XSS, SQL, XPatch, command, object, etc.), data and data structure attacks, attacks on cryptography, business logic attacks, access control mechanisms, and attacks via high-risk vulnerabilities.

Of these, including business logic flaws and attacks is particularly important for the PCI DSS 4.0 compliance of APIs. There have been a growing number of business logic attacks as APIs expose business logic by their very nature and enable attackers to attack APIs more effortlessly.

Business logic flaws may be introduced into APIs during development, deployment, or updates. When there are more API updates, the chances of introducing business logic flaws are higher.

This is why PCI DSS 4.0 requires organizations to proactively find and secure business logic flaws in APIs before attackers can find and exploit them. API penetration testing serves as a proactive measure to identify and address these vulnerabilities before they can be leveraged by attackers.

6.4 – Public-Facing Web Applications are Protected against Attacks

Public-facing web applications are always at a higher risk of attacks when compared to non-public-facing and internal applications owing to their widespread exposure to all kinds of users. Section 6.4 concerns itself with the robust protection of such apps, laying down a range of measures to achieve heightened public app security.

In this section, requirements 6.4.1 and 6.4.2 are particularly important for APIs. Requirement 6.4.1 concerns the proactive, ongoing identification and mitigation of new threats and vulnerabilities.

Organizations can use detective tools – manual and automated – to review and monitor known and emerging threats and vulnerabilities in public-facing apps and APIs. Organizations may also leverage fully managed, intelligent tools for preventive security.

Requirement 6.4.2 extends on 6.4.1 and stresses the need to be proactive and use preventive controls and tools to find and mitigate API security flaws and threats that put the public-facing application at risk.

Conclusion

Given how ubiquitous and critical APIs are to the payment processing space, the latest version of PCI DSS compliance requirements has wide-ranging ramifications for API security.

That is why you must choose an API security solution that enables you to be PCI DSS 4.0 compliant.

Credit card skimming on the rise for the holiday shopping season

0
[ad_1]

As we head into shopping season, customers aren’t the only ones getting excited. More online shopping means more opportunities for cybercriminals to grab their share using scams and data theft.

One particular threat we’re following closely and expect to increase over the next several weeks is credit card skimming. Online stores are not always as secure as you might think they are, and yet you need to hand over your valuable credit card information in order to buy anything.

When a merchant website is hacked, any purchase made has the potential of being intercepted by bad actors. Often, the malicious code is right underneath the surface and yet completely invisible to shoppers.

One particular skimming campaign we have been following picked up the pace drastically in October after a lull during the summer. With hundreds of stores compromised, you may come across it if you shop online on a regular basis.

The Kritec campaign

We first discovered this credit card skimming operation back in March 2023, as it stood out from the rest due to its large volume. The threat actors were also taking the time to customize their skimmer for each victim site with very convincing templates that were even localized in several languages.

The experience was so smooth and seamless that it made it practically impossible for online shoppers to even realize that their credit card information had just been stolen.

Threat actors ramp up their activity just in time for the holiday season

In April this skimming campaign reached a peak and then slowed down during the summer. However it came back, increasing to its highest volume in October. We measured this activity based on the number of newly registered domain names attributed to this threat actor.

The infrastructure is located on the IT WEB LTD network (ASN200313) registered in the British Virgin Islands.

How to shop safely online

If you are shopping online, and especially via smaller merchants (i.e. not Amazon, Walmart, etc), you absolutely need to be extra careful. Unless you are able to perform a full website audit yourself, you simply can’t be sure that the platform hasn’t been compromised.

Having said that, if the website looks like it hasn’t been maintained in a while (for example it is displaying outdated information, such as ”Copyright 2018′) you probably should stay away from it. Most compromises happen because a website’s content management system (CMS) and its plugins are outdated and vulnerable.

There are tools that can also detect malicious code embedded into websites. Most antivirus products offer some kind of web protection that detects malicious domains and IP addresses. But because threat actors are constantly swapping their infrastructure, it is also a good idea to have some kind of heuristic detection for things like malicious JavaScript snippets.

Malwarebytes Premium offers web protection and is complemented by the Malwarebytes Browser Guard extension for more advanced in-browser detection.

We are also publishing a list of the infrastructure that includes domains we had previously not seen but obtained via retrohunting, so that those can be included in community blocklists ingested by third-party products.

OnePlus Open is not completely flat when unfolded… but almost

0
[ad_1]

It seems like the OnePlus Open is not completely flat when unfolded, but it’s not far from it. Folks over at Android Authority decided to check what’s the situation with that, as the phone seems to be a bit off in that regard.

The OnePlus Open does not unfold to a completely flat state, but it’s close to it

According to the info shared by the source, the OnePlus Open unfolds at an angle of about 178-179 degrees, which is 1-2 degrees shy of being completely flat. Needless to say, that’s a negligible difference.

I’ve also noticed that it’s not perfectly flat, but not many people would, to be quite honest. The difference here really is negligible, and it’s not something that will/should bother you one bit, even if you do notice it.

The non-flat state is a lot more noticeable on the Google Pixel Fold

Now, do note that the Google Pixel Fold doesn’t exactly unfold to a completely flat state either. In fact, that difference is much more noticeable on the Pixel Fold. The thing is, you can force the Pixel Fold to be fully flat, but that’s not something we’d recommend doing.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 had the same problem, though it seems like Samsung resolved that with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. That device seems to unfold to a fully flat state.

This likely won’t bother you, though

Once again, this is just nitpicking. Chances are that most people won’t be bothered even by the Pixel Fold’s noticeable lack of flatness, let alone a 1-2-degree difference on the OnePlus Open.

As a reminder, we’ve already reviewed that smartphone, and at the time of writing this article, we’re in the middle of reviewing its twin brother, the OPPO Find N3.

It turns out that the OnePlus Open is a fantastic smartphone, and a contender for the smartphone of the year. OnePlus/OPPO really did manage to create something noteworthy here, nitpicking aside.

[ad_1]

Cryptocurrencies have revolutionized the way we think about money and finance. These digital assets, built on blockchain technology, have not only disrupted traditional financial systems but have also had a profound impact on employment and job creation. In this article, we will explore the various facets of how cryptocurrencies have influenced the job market, from the growth of the industry to the challenges and opportunities it presents. Opting for a secure trading platform like Quantum Astral is crucial when safeguarding your assets.

Cryptocurrency Industry Job Creation

Overview of job opportunities in the cryptocurrency sector

The cryptocurrency sector has rapidly expanded in recent years, creating a plethora of job opportunities. These opportunities span a wide range of roles, including software development, blockchain engineering, cybersecurity, marketing, and customer support. As the industry continues to grow, so does the demand for skilled professionals in these areas.

Roles and responsibilities within cryptocurrency companies

Cryptocurrency companies, like any other tech-driven businesses, require a diverse workforce to function effectively. From blockchain developers who create and maintain the underlying technology to marketing specialists who promote new projects, the industry offers a broad spectrum of job roles.

Growth of cryptocurrency-related jobs over the years

The growth of cryptocurrency-related jobs has been staggering. In the early days of Bitcoin, the industry was relatively small, with only a handful of enthusiasts working on it. However, as cryptocurrencies gained popularity and acceptance, the job market expanded exponentially. Today, cryptocurrency-related jobs can be found in almost every corner of the world.

Case studies of prominent cryptocurrency companies and their impact on employment

Companies like Coinbase, Binance, and Ripple serve as prime examples of how the cryptocurrency industry has contributed to job creation. Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has expanded its workforce significantly since its inception, with thousands of employees worldwide. Binance, another major exchange, has not only created jobs but also supported various blockchain projects through its ecosystem. Ripple, with its focus on cross-border payments, has opened up opportunities for professionals in finance and international banking.

Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and Employment

Introduction to DeFi and its significance

Decentralized Finance, or DeFi, represents one of the most significant developments within the cryptocurrency space. DeFi platforms aim to replace traditional financial intermediaries with blockchain technology, offering users greater control over their finances. As DeFi projects continue to proliferate, so do job opportunities in this sector.

DeFi platforms and protocols creating job opportunities

DeFi platforms like Compound, MakerDAO, and Aave have their own ecosystems that require developers, auditors, and project managers. In addition to these roles, DeFi also creates demand for liquidity providers, yield farmers, and smart contract auditors. The DeFi job market is dynamic and continues to evolve as new projects emerge.

Challenges and risks associated with DeFi employment

While DeFi presents exciting employment opportunities, it also comes with its own set of challenges and risks. Due to the decentralized and relatively unregulated nature of DeFi, there is a higher risk of scams and fraud. Job seekers in this space must exercise caution and conduct due diligence when considering employment opportunities.

Emerging trends in DeFi job roles

The DeFi space is continuously evolving, giving rise to new job roles and skill requirements. For example, “DeFi analysts” who assess the potential of DeFi projects, and “DeFi lawyers” who specialize in navigating the legal complexities of the sector, are emerging as valuable roles within the industry.

Cryptocurrency Mining and Employment

Understanding cryptocurrency mining

Cryptocurrency mining plays a critical role in securing blockchain networks and validating transactions. Miners use powerful computers to solve complex mathematical puzzles, and in return, they are rewarded with newly created cryptocurrencies. This process has led to the creation of mining-related jobs.

The impact of mining on local economies

Mining operations often require significant infrastructure, including data centers and energy sources. As a result, mining activities can have a substantial impact on local economies by creating jobs in construction, maintenance, and energy production.

Job opportunities in mining operations

Mining operations require skilled professionals, such as hardware technicians, electrical engineers, and data center operators. These jobs are not limited to technologically advanced regions but are spread globally, providing opportunities in areas with access to cheap and renewable energy sources.

Environmental concerns and their influence on mining-related employment

While cryptocurrency mining offers employment opportunities, it has also raised environmental concerns due to its energy-intensive nature. As the industry becomes more conscious of sustainability, job roles related to green mining practices and renewable energy solutions are emerging.

Blockchain Technology and Its Effect on Employment

Blockchain as the underlying technology of cryptocurrencies

Blockchain technology extends beyond cryptocurrencies and has applications in various industries, including supply chain management, healthcare, and real estate. As these industries adopt blockchain solutions, new job opportunities are created.

Applications of blockchain beyond cryptocurrencies

Blockchain’s ability to provide transparency, security, and immutability makes it attractive for a wide range of applications. This includes jobs in blockchain development, blockchain consulting, and blockchain project management.

Job creation in industries adopting blockchain technology

Industries like logistics, healthcare, and finance are actively exploring blockchain solutions. As they implement these technologies, they require skilled professionals to develop, maintain, and integrate blockchain systems.

The potential for blockchain to disrupt traditional job markets

The widespread adoption of blockchain technology has the potential to disrupt traditional job markets by automating certain tasks and processes. However, it also creates opportunities for individuals to upskill and adapt to the changing employment landscape.

Regulation and Compliance Jobs in Cryptocurrencies

The need for regulatory oversight in the cryptocurrency space

Cryptocurrencies operate in a regulatory gray area in many countries. As governments seek to address concerns related to fraud, money laundering, and consumer protection, there is a growing need for regulatory oversight.

Job roles related to compliance and regulation

To navigate the evolving regulatory landscape, cryptocurrency companies require professionals who specialize in compliance, legal affairs, and regulatory compliance. These roles are crucial for ensuring that businesses remain compliant with local and international laws.

The evolving landscape of cryptocurrency regulations and its impact on employment

Cryptocurrency regulations vary widely from one jurisdiction to another. Changes in regulations can have a significant impact on the job market, as companies may need to adapt their operations and hire additional staff to meet compliance requirements.

The role of legal and compliance professionals in shaping the industry

Legal and compliance professionals in the cryptocurrency industry play a vital role in shaping its future. They help businesses operate within the boundaries of the law while advocating for regulatory clarity and responsible practices.

Future Outlook: Challenges and Opportunities

Predictions for the future of employment in the cryptocurrency sector

The cryptocurrency job market is expected to continue expanding, with a growing demand for skilled professionals in various roles. As cryptocurrencies become more integrated into mainstream finance, the industry’s employment prospects are promising.

Potential challenges and hurdles to job creation

While the cryptocurrency job market is on the rise, it is not without challenges. These challenges include regulatory uncertainties, market volatility, and the need for continuous learning due to the fast-paced nature of the industry.

Strategies for individuals seeking to enter the cryptocurrency job market

For individuals looking to enter the cryptocurrency job market, acquiring relevant skills and staying updated with industry trends is essential. Networking within the cryptocurrency community and staying informed about job openings are valuable strategies.

The global perspective on cryptocurrency employment

Cryptocurrency employment is not limited by geographical boundaries. Many roles can be performed remotely, enabling individuals from around the world to participate in this global industry.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the influence of cryptocurrencies on employment is undeniable, with the industry’s rapid growth leading to the creation of new job opportunities across diverse sectors. The emergence of roles in areas such as DeFi, mining, and blockchain technology underscores the ever-evolving nature of this job market. Nevertheless, challenges including regulatory uncertainties, environmental considerations, and market fluctuations persist. As the cryptocurrency sector matures, individuals keen on this field must remain adaptable and well-prepared to harness the potential it offers in transforming traditional job markets into a dynamic and diverse workforce landscape.

In navigating this evolving terrain, it’s imperative for individuals to explore innovative means of engaging with the cryptocurrency space.

Video Chat Website Omegle Permanently Shuts Down

[ad_1]

Omegle’s founder Brooks Leif K-Brooks, cited the rampant misuse of the platform by pedophiles and other criminals as a major factor in the decision to shut it down.

Omegle, a widely used video chat website that allows users to connect randomly with strangers, ceased operations on November 8, 2023. The closure was announced by founder Leif K-Brooks, who said that operating the website was “no longer sustainable, financially nor psychologically.”

Brooks cited the rampant misuse of the platform by paedophiles and other criminals as a major factor in the decision to shut it down. In recent years, Omegle has been mentioned in more than 50 cases (1 & 2) against paedophiles, and the site has been criticized by child protection organizations for its lack of safety features.

Brooks also said that the stress and expense of fighting the misuse of Omegle was too much to bear. “Frankly, I don’t want to have a heart attack in my 30s,” he said in a statement on the website.

At the time of closure, according to Help Mama, Omegle had a user base of 235 million active users on a weekly basis. The platform maintained a strong daily presence, with 3.35 million users engaging actively each day.

Breaking down the numbers further, Omegle sustained hourly traffic of 139,880 active users, drawing in a consistent stream of 2,331 users every minute. The platform’s appeal was evident in its rapid growth, welcoming 39 new visitors every second.

Geographically, a significant portion of Omegle’s user demographic hailed from the United States, constituting 29.93% of the total user base. These statistics highlight the widespread and continuous engagement that Omegle enjoys on a global scale.

However, the closure of Omegle is a loss for many people who used the platform to connect with new friends and strangers from all over the world. The platform also played a vital role in YouTube and TikTok prank culture. Yet, it is also a reminder of the dangers of online anonymity and the challenges of keeping online platforms safe for users.

Alternatives to Omegle include Chatroulette, Chatrandom, and Tinychat. These platforms offer similar features to Omegle, but they have also been criticized for their lack of safety features. Users should be cautious when using any online platform that allows them to connect with strangers.

Galaxy S24 dummy units are here, but they may be fake

0
[ad_1]

is hard at work on its next-gen flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. The company plans to unveil the devices in January next year. Leaks have already revealed the key hardware specs and some AI-powered software features of the trio. We also have a fair idea of their design thanks to concept images and CAD renders. Dummy units of the phones have popped up but they may be fake or inaccurate.

The new Galaxy S24 dummy units could be fake

Shared on X/Twitter by @SonnyDickson, all three models of the Galaxy S24 series are seen in white dummy units. The devices are pictured from various angles, showing their design details from close. From button placements and antenna lines to the rear camera array, speaker design, USB-C port, and SIM tray, the images give us visuals of everything. However, noted tipster Tevengnus has called these dummy units “fake.”

The tipster didn’t provide further context explaining what was shown inaccurately. However, if we go back and pull up the first CAD renders of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra from September, we can notice a few discrepancies in the fresh dummy units. The antenna lines aren’t in the same place as we saw on those renders. Not all of them, but a few appear to be misplaced.

Additionally, the Galaxy S24 Ultra dummy doesn’t reflect the bottom speaker redesign. After a few years of gap, Samsung is returning to the coin slot-type rectangular strip for the speaker grille. It has been using tiny pill-shaped holes lately. The latter design looks more premium but the Korean firm is still making this change. It may be saving some manufacturing costs by going with a more simple design that is easier to cut.

Perhaps the switch to a titanium frame may have triggered this change. Since titanium is harder to cut and process, carving out perfect holes for the speaker grille may have added to the manufacturing cost. Rumors say the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will get the same Armor Aluminum frame as before, hence they retain the hole-type speaker design too. Long story short, these dummy units may not be too far off the final design but not accurate either.

Galaxy AI may be the biggest attraction of the new Samsung flagships

The Galaxy S24 series is undergoing a few design changes and bringing some notable hardware upgrades. However, its biggest attraction may be Galaxy AI, a built-in AI tool that could be a game-changer. Samsung is integrating the tool into One UI, so it’s ready to assist you everywhere. It processes all AI tasks on-device without your data leaving your phone. With the Galaxy S24 lineup about two months away, we may hear more about Galaxy AI in the coming weeks.

Apple Vision Pro successor seems to be in the works

0
[ad_1]

After having just announced its VR headset, the Vision Pro, Apple has reportedly already begun working on a successor. This leak comes as a surprise as the Apple Vision Pro isn’t even commercially available yet. However, according to MacRumors, designs for a second-generation AR/VR headset by Apple are already underway. This move could signify that Apple isn’t taking its foray into VR lightly, and is vying to become the top dog of the industry.

The Vision Pro promises a premium VR experience

Apple first announced the Vision Pro back in June of this year. It was Apple’s first foray into a new major category of tech since the Apple Watch in 2015. The Vision Pro is slated to be available to consumers starting early next year in the States, and globally shortly after. This makes news of a potential successor, codenamed Project Alaska, quite surprising if true.

As many expected, Apple went all-out with its new product. The Vision Pro looks and feels Apple, and promises seamless integration into the Apple ecosystem. It offers a brilliant, crisp display and top of the line motion tracking. It also ships with features never before seen in the VR world. The display can go transparent when you need to talk to someone. It manages to integrate people passing by you into your content. There is also an avatar it can create of you to participate in Facetime calls. Another major selling point is how the headset tackles and eliminates nausea with high refresh rates and zero juddering.

Project Alaska might be available in 2025

Reports of Apple working on a successor to the Vision Pro have been surfacing for a few months now. If the images are any indication of the final product, Project Alaska will look quite similar to the Vision Pro. Reports claim the headset will enter Product Validation Testing in 2025. If so, Apple might be looking at a release date in late 2025 or early 2026.

According to the reports, the Vision Pro’s successor will sport flat temples instead of the current rounded ones. This might mean a different speaker configuration or a lack of any audio output. References to an external audio accessory are found in the documentation, which might be a replacement for integrated speakers. The straps on the back of the headset have also changed to a flatter design.

The headset is rumored to feature cutting-edge hardware, including a TrueDepth camera, two micro-OLED displays, and infrared illuminators. Despite all this, rumors suggest the new headset will be cheaper than the first-generation Vision Pro.

If Apple can continue making premium mixed-reality headsets while selling them for cheaper and integrating gaming support for Windows PCs, they could really shake the market. The coming years are going to be exciting for enthusiasts as Apple improves its new line of headsets and the competition responds in kind.

Threads users can finally delete their profile separately from Instagram

0
[ad_1]
Because it wanted to come up with an alternative to Twitter, Meta made some compromises when it launched Threads. Apart from the lack of some basic features, Threads users had their accounts tied to their Instagram accounts.

Obviously, that meant that if you wanted to delete your Threads account, you would have to delete your Instagram account too. Meta has been working on a fix to this issue for several weeks and today Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed the problem was finally addressed.

According to Mosseri, Meta is now rolling out a way for Threads users to delete their profiles separately from their Instagram accounts. This option is available in the Threads profile / Settings / Account / Delete or Deactivate Profile, then select delete.

But wait, there’s more! Referring to a feature that makes it easy for people to see Threads posts directly on Facebook and Instagram, Mosseri announced that after hearing feedback, Meta decided to roll out a way to opt out of being featured outside Threads in Settings / Privacy.

Despite the number of new features added on a weekly basis, Threads didn’t manage to return to the initial user base of nearly 100 million. Thankfully, that didn’t stop Meta from continuing to improve Threads, so here is hoping that new feature will continue to be added in the coming months.
