In a post on X, he said that the OnePlus 12 display “far exceeds 2,600 nits” of brightness. That is the number that was initially shared by BOE, when it announced the X1 display. The tipster claims that the brightness will peak at 4,000 nits.

This is very odd. Why? Well, if the display has the ability to reach 4,000 nits, why wouldn’t BOE market that to begin with? It’s a very odd situation. In any case, 2,600 nits of brightness is plenty, 4,000 is… way above everything else on the market.

Just to give you some perspective. The OnePlus Open has two displays, and both of them are current record-holders in the brightness department. Those displays go up to 2,800 nits, maximum.

If true, that panel will be in a class of its own

Those two panels are followed by the display on the OPPO Find X6 Pro, that panel goes up to 2,600 nits. For comparison’s sake, the Galaxy S23 Ultra peaks at 1,750 nits, the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 2,000 nits, and the Pixel 8 Pro at 2,400 nits.

Just to be clear, all those displays are plenty bright, even the Galaxy S23 Ultra. They rarely come close to their maximum potential, that’s how bright they are. So you can imagine what 4,000 nits will offer, as that’s double what the iPhone 15 Pro Max is able to achieve.

We’ll have to wait and see if that’s true, though, as BOE reported 2,600 nist of peak brightness. Perhaps that’s where it will cut off the display, even though it’s able to go higher than that? That’s another possibility, as 2,600 nits is even more than needed.

The BOE X1 display was announced a couple of days ago, and it will be included in OnePlus and OPPO flagship phones. The OnePlus 12 is confirmed to use it, and the OPPO Find X7 Pro will likely include it too.

The Apple Research app currently supports three distinct studies: a women’s health study in partnership with Harvard, a heart and movement study in collaboration with the American Heart Association, and a hearing study conducted in partnership with the University of Michigan. Potential participants need to check their eligibility before joining a specific study, with the app ensuring user consent before collecting any health data.

Apple notes that a significant number—200,000 people—are actively contributing to groundbreaking research using Apple Watch and iPhone. As wearable technology advances, researchers gain access to a wealth of data about our health. Samsung recently analyzed 716 million nights of sleep behaviors from Samsung Health and Galaxy Watch users globally, revealing a universal decline in sleep duration.

The U.S. Government just took down 17 hackers’ websites from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). These hackers were using these sites to cheat businesses in the U.S. and abroad.

It’s great to see that action is being taken to protect companies from these kinds of cyber threats.

“The seizures announced today protect U.S. companies from being infiltrated with North Korean computer code and help ensure that American businesses are not used to finance that regime’s weapons program,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew GOlsen of the Justice Department’s National Security Division. 

Already, the U.S. sealed DPRK in October 2022, and in January 2023, court-authorized $1.5 million in money that the same group of IT workers got from people who didn’t know about their scheme.

Websites Seized

This was because of partnerships between the government and private companies that shared information, which blocked the IT workers’ access to the online freelance work and payment service providers they liked best.

The Government warns employers about hiring and allowing access to It systems.

By seizing these fraudulent domains, businesses are prevented from inadvertently employing these malicious individuals, which could damage the company.

The FBI advises employers to implement supplementary proactive measures concerning remote IT personnel to increase malicious actors’ difficulty concealing their identities. 

Companies risk financial losses or having their systems compromised by insider threats that they accidentally allow into their systems if they fail to conduct adequate due diligence.

The DPRK Government sent trained It workers to mainly China and Russia to defraud their nations. 

This scheme involves the use of pseudonymous email, social media, payment platforms, and online job site accounts, as well as false websites and proxy computers located in the United States.

As a result of this incident, the Government should take proper investigations and improve their fraud detection mechanisms.

SEIKO Group Corporation (SGC) has announced that they suffered a cyber attack that exposed customer data. 

The attack lasted for several months and was ransomware that accessed SEIKO’s servers without permission. 

The attack was discovered on July 28, 2023, and SEIKO immediately stopped it.

SEIKO hired cybersecurity experts to investigate and report the attack to the authorities. 

They also set up an emergency team to limit the damage. After checking their servers, they discovered about 60,000 pieces of personal data from SGC, Seiko Watch Corporation (SWC), and Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) were leaked.

SEIKO Cyber Attack 

The data included customer names, business contacts, job applicants, and staff information.

SEIKO has done several things to fix the problem and avoid future attacks. 

They cut off external communication with the affected servers and installed new systems to detect and block unauthorized activity. 

They also added more security features, such as multi-factor authentication.

SEIKO is still working with cybersecurity experts to find and fix any weaknesses in their IT systems, figure out the full extent of the data leak, understand how and why the attack happened, improve system security and monitoring, strengthen corporate governance across the Group, review their Business Continuity Plan (BCP), and get third-party assessments and other actions to prevent such incidents from happening again.

SEIKO Group Corporation apologized for the trouble caused by this data leak. 

They have contacted the affected parties individually and are ready to deal with any more leaks that may be found later.

SK Hynix has also confirmed the compatibility of LPDDR5T RAM with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The tipster, on the other hand, confirmed that this RAM will be compatible with the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC too.

Now, SK Hynix plans to offer a 16GB-capacity product. It will achieve this by combining multiple individual LPDDR5T chips, which will result in a data processing speed of 77GB per second.

LPDDR5T is very power efficient too

The company also says that LPDDR5T is very power efficient. It operates at the lowest voltage within the range of 1.01 to 1.12V standards. Those standards are set by the Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC).

SK Hynix basically used the HKMG (High-K Metal Gate) process in order to boost both speed and efficiency here. That way, the company has a product to offer that is above LPDDR5X, as we’re waiting for LPDDR6 RAM to reach the market.

The Vivo X100 series is tipped to launch in mid-November. Those devices will be the first to use this RAM, at least based on what the tipster said, so get ready.

When Photo Stack goes live, Google Photos will take the initiative to group together images that share similarities, particularly those captured in close succession. According to the tipster, users will have the flexibility to toggle Photo Stacks on or off via a setting in the preference screen of Google Photos.

Once a Photo Stack is formed, users will be able to edit the stack or alter the top pick. There might also be a way to manage multiple Photo Stacks efficiently. The OnePlus 12 design has just been shown by the company’s CEO himself, Pete Lau. Just to be clear, he does not show us the phone’s entire design, but only the device from the front. We did notice some additional details by looking at the picture, though.

You can check out the original image below this paragraph, along with a cropped one, that zooms in on the phone. That being said, you’ll notice that OnePlus will once again utilize a curved display on the device.

Google gave up on curved displays, as both of its Pixel 8 devices have a flat display. The Galaxy S24 Ultra is also said to include a flat display, so the entire Galaxy S24 series will feature such panels.

OnePlus is sticking to it, it seems. On top of that, there is a display camera hole on the phone, and it’s centered. That’s one change compared to the OnePlus 11. Up until now, the company’s flagship had a display camera hole in the top-left corner.

The bezels on the phone are very thin, but they don’t seem to be uniform. We could be wrong, though, as the side bezels can seem thinner than they are on curved panels. In any case, the bezels are quite thin.

OnePlus will change the position of the alert slider & volume control buttons

Another change you’ll notice compared to the OnePlus 11 is the position of the volume up and down buttons, and the alert slider They basically switched places. The volume up and down buttons are now on the right side, above the power/lock key. The alert slider is on the left. That will make the volume buttons easier to reach, for right-handed people, unlike the alert slider.

That is basically all the info that we could gather from this image. The phone will be large, as expected. That much is noticeable when you see it in hand. OnePlus will launch this phone either towards the end of the year, or in January next year.

The Xiaomi 14 has just surfaced on X, in a hands-on video. The black variant of the device is shown here, and this leak comes at the very last minute, as the launch event is scheduled for later today.

The Xiaomi 14 series event will kick off at 1 PM CET / noon BST / 7 AM EST / 4 AM PST. The devices will launch in China, while the global launch event will follow later on. We still don’t know when exactly.

In any case, if you’d like to take a closer look at the phone that leaked, the video is embedded below. It was shared by Revegnus, a tipster. You can clearly see the device here, from all angles, and this seems to be the vanilla model, not the ‘Pro’ variant.

The Xiaomi 14 will basically look the same as the Xiaomi 14 Pro, but it will be smaller. A 6.36-inch display is expected on this device, while the Xiaomi 14 Pro’s display will measure around 6.7 inches.

The bezels are thin, and the camera island has a square shape

It’s clear that the phone has flat sides, and a flat display. A display camera hole sits at the top, and it’s centered. The bezels are quite thin (although thicker than initially reported), and the camera island on the back is rectangular. Leica branding is easily visible here too.

Considering that this video is not exactly of the highest quality, we’re not sure what material is Xiaomi using on the back. It’s either matt glass or vegan leather, though it seems to be the latter. The good news is that this model won’t have a reflective backplate.

In addition to this hands-on leak, Xiaomi also shared more official images of the device. If you check out the gallery below, you’ll be able to see black and pink Xiaomi 14 models. The green and white variants surfaced recently too.

Qualcomm announced its new flagship SoC yesterday, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. A lot has been said during the event, and even some Xiaomi 14 details were confirmed. Amongst all that, it was confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will fuel the Xiaomi 14 series, the OnePlus 12, and several other devices.

To be more accurate, the Realme GT5 Pro was also mentioned, and the same goes for iQOO 12. It was confirmed either by Qualcomm itself, or specific companies yesterday. On top of that, various companies were mentioned too, as all of them will take advantage of this processor moving forward.

Those companies are ASUS, HONOR, iQOO, Meizu, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. More of them will utilize it, of course, such as Samsung, Motorola, etc, but they were not specifically mentioned.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has a lot to offer. This chip actually offers considerable improvements over its predecessor, which is already an outstanding processor. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is made using a 4nm fabrication process, by TSMC.

This chip is 30% more powerful than its predecessor, and offers better power efficiency

It is said to be 30% more powerful than its predecessor, and offer a 20% gain in power efficiency. Its GPU is 25% more powerful, 25% more efficient, and it also offers 40% better Ray Tracking.

The new Qualcomm Hexagon NPU is 98% faster, and 40% more efficient. This chip also has an 8K external display support, and Unreal Engine 5 support with Lumen lightning system.

The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro will become the very first smartphones to include this chip. Well, at least it will be the first announced one, as it’s coming tomorrow, October 26.

Now, Meta is sharing insights into its performance.Meta reported revenue exceeding $34 billion for the quarter, indicating a 23% increase from 2022. During discussions with analysts (via Engadget), Mark Zuckerberg emphasized Meta’s recent focus on “efficiency,” resulting in the company reducing its workforce by over 20,000 in the past year. Zuckerberg sees this approach as effective, especially in navigating a “very volatile world.”

Turning to Meta’s platforms and user base, Facebook maintains its lead in monthly active users with 3.05 billion, an increase from last year. The broader Meta family, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, collectively boasts a user base exceeding 3.9 billion monthly users.

Meta’s concerted effort to promote Threads seems to be yielding positive results. Threads has just under 100 million monthly active users, and Zuckerberg envisions a “good chance” for the app to reach 1 billion users in the next couple of years.

Mark Zuckerberg shared his thoughts during the third-quarter earnings call, expressing a longstanding belief in the need for a billion-person public conversation app that leans towards positivity. He sees a good chance of achieving this vision if they persist in the current direction for a few more years.

Zuckerberg also shared Meta’s increased focus on generative AI. “We’re going to continue deprioritizing a number of non-AI projects across the company to shift people towards working on AI instead,” Zuckerberg stated.

Yet, the investments in AI won’t be cutting into the budget earmarked for the metaverse. Reality Labs, the Meta division in charge of AR and VR spending, faced significant setbacks. Revenue dropped to $210 million, and losses soared to $3.7 billion for the quarter, surpassing $11 billion since the beginning of 2023.
