The new iPhone 15 is available to pre-order today, from Apple, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and many other carriers. What we’re doing here is showing you the best pre-order deals that you can take advantage of and save the most on your new iPhone.

This year, there are some pretty good iPhone 15 deals, especially if you’re trading in an older iPhone. The carriers are offering up to $799 off of a new iPhone 15 (or iPhone 15 Plus), essentially getting you a free iPhone 15. But that’s not going to be available for everyone. This year, there are more deals than ever for the iPhone 15.

So what’s new with the iPhone 15 this year? Well, it gains the A16 Bionic chipset from the iPhone 14 Pro last year. It also gets the Dynamic Island, that debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro last year. And another iPhone 14 Pro feature comes along too, the new 48-megapixel main camera. This upgraded camera is going to give iPhone 15 users the ability to zoom in at 2x. Because it punches into the full 48-megapixel image.

All this for $799, and yes, it is still a 60Hz display here. No ProMotion this time around. Here are the latest deals for the iPhone 15.

This year, there are some pretty good iPhone 15 Pro deals, especially if you’re trading in an older iPhone. The carriers are offering up to $999 off of a new iPhone 15 Pro (or iPhone 15 Pro Max), essentially getting you a free iPhone 15 Pro. But that’s not going to be available for everyone.

So what’s new with the iPhone 15 Pro this year? Well, Apple actually didn’t give the iPhone 15 Pro a whole lot of upgrades, most of them were saved for the Pro Max. But it is now a titanium phone. Which makes the iPhone 15 Pro a whole lot lighter, compared to the iPhone 14 Pro. It also has the new A17 Pro chipset, which is the most powerful chip in a smartphone right now. It also is allowing some console games to come over to your iPhone.

On the camera front, the actual cameras are staying the same, but Apple has made some nice changes here. Like the ability to shoot RAW in 48MP, 24MP and 12MP. Which is a really cool feature.

It’s still starting at $999, but with the deals below, you can get it for much less, and in some cases – for free.

Threads for Web is getting more useful

0
[ad_1]

As you know, Threads has finally made it to the web. This puts it more in line with what people expect from platforms like Facebook and X. However, when it first hit the web, there was one major omission that left users confused. You weren’t able to quote posts on Threads for web. Well, according to a post from Adam Mosseri (via The Verge), that’s about to change.

Threads is the Twitter alternative that the world needed (one that was actually able to launch widely on day one without a lengthy beta testing period). It had a meteoric rise at the beginning. Then its userbase plummeted like a, well, a meteor soon after its peak. That was to be expected as the use base stabilized.

Not too long after the launch, Meta finally made Threads available on the web. Now, users can access the Threads website from their desktop computers, and folks were pleased. Currently, we’re in the stage where Meta is packing Threads with more features to fill it out.

Threads for the web now lets you quote posts

Again, we were all a bit confused when Threads for the web didn’t let users quote posts. You could only repost them. In case you don’t know what quoting a post is, it’s when you share someone’s post to your profile and you add your own text to it.

Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, made an Instagram post on Thursday showing a person quoting a Threads post on the web. He said that this and another feature are rolling out this week. Seeing as the week is already almost over, users shouldn’t have to wait for much longer.

What’s the other feature mentioned?

The other feature mentioned in the post is the ability to follow certain threads using the mobile app. When you follow a thread, you’ll receive notifications about activity on that thread. You’ll only be able to receive notifications from that thread for 24 hours. If you don’t see this feature yet, make sure your app is fully updated.

Galaxy Buds FE price and specs revealed, launch imminent

0
[ad_1]

Samsung is gearing up to launch its first-ever FE-series TWS earbuds, called the Galaxy Buds FE. The company has already spilled beans on its design and key features through an official user manual, which was prematurely uploaded to its website earlier this week. We now have more information about the upcoming buds, including the price.

According to noted tipster Roland Quandt, the Galaxy Buds FE will feature 12mm AKG-tuned drivers. Samsung plans to offer the buds in graphite and white color options. The leaked user manual gave us a close look at the graphite variant. It was also seen in a live photo last week thanks to a certification listing in South Korea. The buds will seemingly have a matte finish. The case, meanwhile, gets a glossy white paint.

The source claims that Samsung will price the Galaxy Buds FE at $99.99. That’s substantially cheaper than the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, which debuted in August 2022 with a price tag of $230. We aren’t surprised by this pricing structure, though. The Pro model is the Korean firm’s flagship TWS offering, while the new FE models will be an entry-level product. The Galaxy Buds 2 (2021), which is a mid-range TWA pair, was priced at $150.

Samsung seems to have made the upcoming FE-series earbuds affordable by removing some premium features such as wireless charging. While we don’t yet have confirmation about that, the official user manual didn’t mention wireless charging anywhere. Instructions about charging the buds only talked about wired charging via the USB Type-C port featured on the back of the case. The housing has charging indicators on the inside and outside.

The user manual also revealed that the Galaxy Buds FE will feature ANC (active noise cancelation) along with an ambient sound mode. It boasts Bluetooth 5.3 and a touch panel for controls. Samsung has also included wear detection and a wing tip for better fit. Details about supported audio codecs and the dust and water resistance rating are currently missing. We might have those details soon, though.

The Galaxy Buds FE is nearing its launch

Samsung has yet to officially announce a launch date for the Galaxy Buds FE. However, considering the latest developments, the buds could debut soon. The company also has a few more FE-series devices in the works, including the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Tab S9 FE, and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. It may unveil them all on the same day later this month or in October. We will let you know when we have more information.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Note 20 get September update in the US

0
[ad_1]

A couple of days back, Samsung released the September security update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Note 20 series. The initial rollout covered the devices in some international markets, including Europe. The company has now expanded it to the US.

As of this writing, Samsung is pushing the latest security patch to the factory-unlocked variants of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US. The update comes with the firmware build number F731U1UES1AWI1 and is available widely on most networks, including Verizon, T-Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, Dish, metro, Comcast, US Cellular, Bluegrass Cellular, Nextech, and more. The Korean firm should soon roll out the update to carrier-locked variants of the new Flip model.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5, on the other hand, is receiving the update on both carrier-locked and unlocked units. The new firmware versions for the bigger foldable are F946USQS1AWI1 and F946U1UES1AWI1, respectively. While the rollout is live on most networks for unlocked units, we can currently only confirm its availability on T-Mobile and Metro networks for carrier-locked units. It shouldn’t be a much longer wait for users on other networks, though.

Coming to the Galaxy Note 20 series, Samsung is once again beginning with a wide rollout for unlocked variants. The last Note-series phones are receiving this update with the build number N98*U1UES5HWHC. The Korean firm will push the September SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the carrier-locked variants of the duo in the coming days. As said earlier, all of these phones are already receiving this update in international markets.

Galaxy devices are getting over 60 security fixes with the September update

The latest update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Galaxy Note 20 series in the US doesn’t bring anything notable for users. Not even those system stability and reliability improvements that Samsung pushed to the European versions of the two foldables, at least that’s what the official changelog says. It only mentions security fixes for this month.

However, those security fixes are important too. Samsung has patched 62 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family this month. The September SMR for its Android products contains at least four critical fixes coming from Google. It patches four Exynos flaws as well, along with 35 Galaxy-specific security issues. If you’re using a Galaxy device, check for new updates and install it if available. You can check for updates from the Software update section of the Settings app.

These two phones look almost exactly the same. Granted, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is considerably larger, and there’s another detail that differentiates them. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a different telephoto camera, which you’ll notice if you take a closer look. Both smartphones are made out of titanium, and both have flat edges with rounded corners. That makes these two phones a lot more pleasant to hold and use, compared to their predecessors. Their reduced weight also plays a huge role in everything, of course.

Speaking of weight, the iPhone 15 Pro weighs 187 grams, while the ‘Pro Max’ model is a lot heavier at 221 grams. The ‘Pro Max’ model is also a lot taller and wider, while the phone phones have the exact same thickness. Both phones are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, by the way, and both now have a Type-C port. That’s a first for iPhones, and all models in the series have them.

The bezels have been reduced on these two phones too, they’re very thin now, and also uniform. A Dynamic Island is still present at the top of the display, while Apple added an ‘Action Button’ on both phones, instead of a mute switch. That button is customizable. Both phones have three cameras on the back, though they’re not identical. That’s something we’ll talk more about in the camera section. These two phones are quite slippery, but slightly less slippery than their predecessors, and more comfortable to use.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Display

The iPhone 15 Pro has a 6.1-inch 2556 x 1179 LTPO Super Retina XD OLED display. That panel has a 120Hz refresh rate, supports HDR10 content, and also Dolby Vision. Its brightness goes up to 2,000 nits, and we’re looking at a 19.5:9 aspect ratio here. The panel is protected by the Ceramic Shield Glass, and it’s flat. The display on the ‘Pro Max’ model is the same in every way but its size. It measures 6.7 inches instead of 6.1 inches.

Are the two displays any good, though? Well, based on initial impressions, yes, very much so. They are plenty sharp, offer vivid colors, and deep blacks. The viewing angles are excellent, and the touch response is good too. They are immensely bright on top of that. When you’re in direct sunlight, they can both get to 2,000 nits, which is great. They’re not the brightest in the industry, but they’re not far from it either.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Performance

When it comes to hardware-related specs, well, the two phones are basically the same. Both are fueled by the Apple A17 Pro processor, the latest and greatest mobile chip the company has to offer. This is a 3nm processor. Both phones are also equipped with 8GB of RAM, and offer NVMe storage. So, they’re the same in every way when performance is concerned, at least on paper.

Apple boasted about the outstanding performance of its new chip, and also ray tracing support. Some truly outstanding games are on the way, and it will be interesting to see them in action. The regular day-to-day performance should be immensely fluid, as expected, at least based on some initial impressions with both devices. Gaming tests will have to wait until we manage to get our hands on review units. We don’t expect any problems, though.

Another thing worth noting has to do with the performance of their USB ports. Unlike the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, these two phones do support USB 3.0 transfer speeds. The thing is, you’ll need to get a different cable to reach those speeds, though. The cables Apple includes with all of its iPhone 15 models are limited to USB 2.0 speeds, so… yeah, you’ll need to get a better one, if you don’t have one already.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Battery

Apple did not disclose battery capacities for its new smartphones, including these two. We’re guessing that they’re similar to what last year’s models offered, or perhaps a bit larger. The company did boast about an all-day battery life, though, so… we’ll see. This chip should also help in that regard, as it’s more power efficient than its predecessor was. Let’s just hope the battery life will be better than what the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max delivered.

Those of you who have been hoping for faster charging here, well, you’ll be disappointed. Neither phone offers faster charging, Apple is sticking with 20W wired, and 15W wireless charging. The phones do support MagSafe and Qi charging, while Qi2 will also be supported. Another thing worth noting is that a charger is not included with either smartphone. You won’t find it in the retail box, so you’ll need to get one yourself.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro vs Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max: Cameras

These two smartphones have the exact same main and ultrawide cameras, but they do differ in the telephoto department. A 48-megapixel main camera is used for the main shooter on both phones. It has a second-gen sensor-shift OIS, and an f/1.78 aperture. That is a larger sensor than Apple used in the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus. A 12-megapixel ultrawide unit is included in both smartphones.

Now, in regards to the telephoto camera, both have a 12-megapixel camera with an f/2.8 aperture, but they’re different. The one on the iPhone 15 Pro is limited to 3x optical zoom, while the Pro Max’s offers a 5x optical zoom. Apple used a different lens here, even though we’re still not looking at a periscope camera here. Both smartphones can take regular shots and then adjust the focus and blur afterwards, as if a portrait photo was taken.

We cannot attest to image quality just yet. We’ll have to wait until we get our hands on the phones. It will be interesting to see if Apple’s new coating really helps with light reflections, as that was a huge problem in low-light photography. Also, let’s hope that Apple fixed some white balance issues that were present on previous models from time to time.

Audio

Apple didn’t really talk much about audio during the presentation. What we do know, however, is that both smartphones have stereo speakers. They support Dolby Atmos, and have Spatial Audio playback too. Those speakers will likely sound similar to the ones on the iPhone 14 Pro series.

You can utilize the Type-C ports on the phones to plug in your wired headphones, as there’s no audio jack on either phone. If you prefer wireless audio, you’ll be glad to know that Bluetooth 5.3 is supported here.
