Apple, this week, announced the new iPhone 15. Which moves to USB-C this time around, instead of using Lightning. This also means that Apple is starting to update its other accessories with USB-C now, including announcing EarPods and AirPods Pro (2nd gen) with USB-C at the event this week. However, that’s not the case for everything.
Many have noticed that Apple has removed the MagSafe Battery Pack and MagSafe Duo from the Store. Meaning that it’s no longer being sold by Apple. Which is rather surprising, since there is no replacement for either one, just yet. Perhaps that will be coming a bit later, and the replacements just weren’t quite ready yet.
It’s unclear whether Apple will replace these or not. But whether they do or not, there are plenty of great alternatives from third-parties. In fact, we have a Best MagSafe Accessories list that you can take a look at.
Plenty more Lightning Accessories could go away soon
There are many, many accessories that Apple sells that use Lightning ports still. And they’ll need to replace those soon, or just ditch them altogether. This includes the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse for Mac. As well as the other versions of AirPods and AirPods Max. Among a few others.
So this means that we could see quite a few updates to accessories over the coming months, as Apple is being forced to move away from Lightning. Though, it could be the same as the AirPods Pro 2nd Gen with USB-C, where it’s just USB-C being added (and Lossless for the Vision Pro). But a few of these are in desperate need of updates, like the AirPods Max which came out back in 2020. Or the Magic Mouse which is still hilarious that the charging port is on the bottom of the mouse.
