Qualcomm has revealed some insights about its Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Platform which is built for high-end XR devices. It’s a single-chip architecture designed to elevate immersive experiences in Mixed Reality (MR) and Virtual Reality (VR). This new platform will deliver 4.3K resolution per eye at 90 frames per second or 3.7K per eye at 120fps.

It offers a 15% higher GPU frequency and a 20% higher CPU frequency. It supports 12 concurrent cameras, providing robust user’s movement tracking and navigation in both the physical and digital world.

Hugo Swart, Vice President and General Manager of XR at Qualcomm, expressed the platform’s potential to revolutionize XR productivity and entertainment. The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 promises to deliver stunningly clear visuals. Google‘s Vice President of AR, Shahram Izadi also showed excitement about the ongoing collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and Samsung in shaping the future of immersive and spatial XR. Industry experts anticipate the capabilities of the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 to unlock new possibilities for the Android ecosystem, enabling innovative XR experiences.

Additionally, Qualcomm Technologies revealed a new MR & VR reference design, featuring eye-tracking technology from Tobii and developed by Goertek. This reference design supports both 3K per eye (Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2) and 4K per eye (Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2) configurations, offering OEMs a valuable tool to accelerate their time to market.

The Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform stands out as a premium option for higher-priced headsets. It emphasizes its capability for fully tetherless experiences. Qualcomm revealed partnerships with Immersed’s Visor, Samsung’s upcoming Google-powered headset, a new HTC Vive headset, a YVR headset in China, and an undisclosed fifth headset. Qualcomm positions the platform to compete with high-end offerings, including Apple’s Vision Pro, providing pixel-level precision and significantly improved spatial computing experiences.
