Right now, it’s getting more expensive to use the world’s most popular music streaming service. Spotify just raised its prices in several countries, but it might not be done siphoning your wallet. According to Phone Arena, Spotify might charge you to see song lyrics.

In case you don’t know, Spotify raised the price for Premium a few months ago. The base price for Spotify was $9.99/month. However, the company raised the price to $10.99/month for a single user. That’s not a huge jump, but it’s still more money leaving its users’ pockets each month.

Now, Spotify could charge you to see song lyrics

A lot of the time, people like to look at the lyrics of their favorite songs. This is fun, especially since Spotify has a live lyrics mode. This mode highlights the current lyrics in the song. YouTube Music recently adopted a feature like this.

However, it looks like the pleasure of reading lyrics along with the song won’t be for everyone much longer. Some Spotify users reported trying to access the lyrics for their songs only for the app to tell them to sign up for Premium.

They’d get a message saying “Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium”, and they’d see a button below it to take them to get a subscription. This isn’t visible for everyone on the platform, we haven’t seen it on our accounts.

The Verge reached out to Spotify for comment, and the company’s co-head of global communications, CJ Stanley, stated that the company is “currently testing this with a limited number of users in a pair of markets.”

So, at this point, we don’t know if Spotify is going to make this an official change. It might depend on how bad of a reception this change gets from the testing crowd. Obviously, this won’t go over well with anyone. No one wants to pay for a feature that was previously free. In any case, it remains to be seen whether Spotify will go through with this or not; only time will tell.
