WhatsApp has announced a major new update for its messaging app. The Meta-owned platform is pushing improvements to polls and captions. These new features and changes have been in development for the past few months. They will reach all WhatsApp users around the world in the coming weeks.
For starters, WhatsApp is rolling out three changes to its polling feature. As we reported in March, the company is finally adding the ability to restrict participants to just one choice in polls. Poll creators can turn off the “allow multiple answers” toggle before publishing polls to limit participants to one correct option. No such tool was available when creating polls earlier, allowing you to select all available options.
WhatsApp now also lets you filter search results by Polls. When searching for messages on the Chats screen, you can select the Polls pill to find all chats with polls. This feature works similarly to existing filters for Unread messages, Photos, Videos, Links, GIFs, Audio, and Documents. WhatsApp will also now notifies you every time someone votes on a poll you created, letting you stay updated on responses.
Beyond polls, WhatsApp has also improved captions. Firstly, you can now forward photos and videos with captions. If a media file you are forwarding already has a caption, you can choose to keep it or rewrite it before pressing the send button. You can also completely remove or add captions before forwarding. Last but not least, this update brings caption support for documents on WhatsApp. Like photos and videos, you now have the option to add captions to documents before sharing.
The latest WhatsApp update is now rolling out to users globally
WhatsApp announced the latest update for its messaging app on Thursday, May 4. The official blog post says the new features and changes will be available to everyone globally in the coming weeks. The update already seems to have reached most users. You can install the new version of the app from the Google Play Store (link below). If you haven’t received the update yet, wait a few days and check again.
These are just a few of the many new features WhatsApp has been working on in recent months. The company is testing auto-playing GIFs, an optimized layout for tablets, status sharing to Facebook, and more. These changes will reach users in the coming weeks.
