European Union wants to be a major player in semiconductor market by 2030

The semiconductor market might soon have a new player besides the United States, Taiwan, and China. The Council of the European Union has approved its “Chips Act” bill that aims to make the continent a powerhouse in the semiconductor market by 2030.

The United States and China are currently the biggest players in the chip market. Both governments have approved multi-billion dollar plans to ramp up chip production and reinforce innovation. China is the biggest chip consumer in the world, supplying most of it from Taiwan, the same controversial island it claims to own. As chips are becoming more strategic, Europe is also entering the market.

The EU Chips Act is basically a roadmap for semiconductor development in the continent, attracting investments and amplifying R&D. This bill finally aims to protect Europe from any disruptions in the chips supply chain.

European Union is entering the semiconductor market to compete with China and the US

The Chips Act bill will mobilize €43 billion in public and private investment, which €3.3 billion of it comes from the EU budget. Europe hopes to increase its market share from 10% to at least 20% by 2030. The semiconductor market cap is also expected to reach $1 trillion in 2030.

“The Chips Act aims to reduce the EU’s vulnerabilities and dependencies on foreign actors. This will improve the EU’s security of supply, resilience, and technological sovereignty in the field of chips,” The European Council states.

Chips are today used in almost everything we use, including home appliances, cars, planes, smartphones, etc. The smartphone you’re now using contains nearly 160 chips. If you own a hybrid EV, roughly 3500 chips can also be found on it. As of 2020, Europe produced 10% of the world’s chips, and 27% of those went to the automotive market.

Taiwan currently produces over 60% of the world’s chips. Over 90% of the most advanced chips are also produced on this small island. The rising tensions between the United States and China over Taiwan have made countries focus on in-house chip production to reduce the impacts of a supply chain crisis in case of war.

Fixes Available

The Buffer Overflow Vulnerability tracked as CVE-2022-37434 with a ‘Critical’ Severity Range has been specifically included in this release.

“zlib through 1.2.12 has a heap-based buffer over-read or buffer overflow in inflate in inflate.c via a large gzip header extra field”, the company explains.

Only applications that use inflateGetHeader are affected. Some popular apps may include the affected zlib source code but may be unable to call inflateGetHeader.

The Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability tracked as CVE-2020-7656 with a ‘High’ severity range has been included in the release.

Particularly, SolarWinds Platform 2023.3 includes 10 medium-severity vulnerabilities in the SolarWinds platform, including third-party CVEs.

To begin an upgrade, including options to pre-stage the installation files, go to Settings > My Deployment to initiate the upgrade.  The SolarWinds Installer upgrades your complete deployment (including all SolarWinds Platform products and scalability engines).

You can obtain the installation file for new installations from the product page at https://www.solarwinds.com or via the Customer Portal.

In addition, SolarWinds recommends that you upgrade to the most recent version of your products as soon as possible.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 prototypes show a different design

While Samsung used a similar design for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, it doesn’t mean that the company didn’t work on making it look different. There was still a lot of planning that went into the final design.

Ray Wong posted a video to Twitter showing off four different prototypes that could have been the phone we see today. What’s most noticeable about these prototypes are the different aspect ratios. We know that, compared to most other foldables on the market, the Galaxy foldable phones are taller and thinner.

People are waiting for Samsung to get with the program and make a phone with a wider outer display that you can better use as a phone. Well, it looks like the company at least considered that. The outer display of the final version is a slender 23.1:9.

In the video, we see that the prototypes were actually wider than the final version. The first one is basically the same as the final version with a 23:9 ratio. The second one has a 22:9 aspect ratio, while the third has a more standard 21:9 aspect ratio.

The fourth one is interesting because it’s almost the exact aspect ratio as the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The Ultra has a 19.3:9 aspect ratio and the prototype has a 19.5:9 ratio. If the company has stuck with that design, then it could basically feel like you’re using a Galaxy S23 Ultra that folds.

FraudGPT is now being advertised in various dark web marketplaces and Telegram channels, it has been reported by TheHackerNews. Rakesh Krishnan, a Netenrich security researcher, said the following: “This is an AI bot, exclusively targeted for offensive purposes, such as crafting spear phishing emails, creating cracking tools, carding, etc.”.

This particular malware has been around since at least July 22 this year, and it can be purchased for a $200 a month subscription, $1,000 for six months, or $1,700 for a year.

The author states that this tool can be used to write malicious code, create undetectable malware, find leaks and vulnerabilities, and more. There have been over 3,000 confirmed sales and reviews, unfortunately.

This could take Phaas to a whole new level

Needless to say, tools like these can do a lot of damage. They can take the phishing-as-a-service (Phaas) model to a whole new level, and a lot more than that.

Krishnan also said the following: “While organizations can create ChatGPT (and other tools) with ethical safeguards, it isn’t a difficult feat to reimplement the same technology without those safeguards”.

It’s important to use common sense when it comes to tech. The vast majority of malware that circulates out there cannot touch you if you don’t allow suspicious apps and webpages special access to your phone via permissions. That’s just one example, of course. Simply be careful, that is all, and also avoid installing apps from unofficial app stores. That is always a good idea, unless you completely trust the developer you’re grabbing the app from, of course.

Heads up, gamers! If you receive access codes for seemingly lucrative blockchain games, beware! A new malware campaign targets gamers via fake blockchain games, delivering Redline stealer on Windows systems and Realst malware on Mac devices. The threat actors aim at stealing cryptocurrency wallets via these malware attacks.

New Malware Campaign Infects Mac With Realst, Windows With Redline Stealer Via Fake Games

The security researcher with the alias “iamdeadlyz” shed light on a new malware campaign in his post. As described, the researcher found numerous fake blockchain games delivering macOS and Windows devices with Realst malware and Redline Stealer, respectively.

Specifically, the threat actors behind this campaign promote fake blockchain games on social media platforms, offering access codes. Interested gamers need to download these games via the provided access codes, which covertly help the attackers sort their targets and avoid encountering security researchers.

Some of these fakes game projects include Destruction, Evolion, Olymp of Reptiles, and Brawl Earth, whereas the researcher also found RyzeX, Dawn Land MetaWorld, and WildWorld following the same pattern.

Alongside infecting Windows systems with Redline Stealer, they also targeted macOS devices with a new malware that grabbed the researcher’s attention. The researcher named it “Realst,” given its Rust-based coding.

Regarding Realst, the researcher described it as an infostealing malware targeting various web browsers for cryptocurrency wallet extensions. The malware even scans Telegram to exfiltrate desired information. While the supposed game asks the user for the password to “install” the game, in the background, the malware transmits the stolen data to the C&C. These details include the stored passwords, device’s information, geolocation, and screengrabs (if granted permissions).

The researcher shared a detailed technical analysis of the campaign in his post.

Following his research, SentinelOne also presented its detailed analysis, analyzing various malware samples it found associated with this campaign. They also found the malware utilizing AppleScript spoofing to trick Mac users into typing their device’s passwords.

This campaign typically targets cryptocurrency users. Therefore, users, especially those who like blockchain games, should remain cautious while interacting with messages (particularly game invites) from unknown sources.

Samsung‘s One UI 6.0 beta might finally land next week. A Samsung Germany customer support executive recently told a Galaxy user that the company will launch the beta program on Wednesday, August 2. As expected, the Galaxy S23 series will first get the taste of the new One UI version, with others to follow later.

One UI 6.0 is the latest iteration of Samsung’s custom Android software. It brings Android 14 to Galaxy devices. The Korean firm has been internally testing the big update for several weeks now. We have come across several test firmware for the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and other devices during this period.

While Samsung has yet to officially announce its One UI 6.0 roadmap, rumors suggested that the company will launch public beta programs in the third week of July. However, it didn’t. But it showed signs of a nearing beta release of the new One UI version a few days back when it added official One UI 6.0 sections to its community forums in some countries.

A few days later, we now have an official word that the beta program will launch next week. If the information is accurate, the Galaxy S23 series will get One UI 6.0 beta on August 2, at least in Germany. Interestingly, the customer support executive claims that the Galaxy A34 5G and Galaxy A54 5G are the next in the pipeline. The two new mid-rangers are supposed to get the beta update on August 9 (via SamMobile).

Samsung may quickly bring One UI 6.0 beta to mid-range Galaxy devices

Samsung usually pushes major updates, including beta releases, to flagship devices ahead of mid-range and budget phones. So it’s a nice little surprise that the company may have in store this year. Or maybe the likes of the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will get the One UI 6.0 beta ahead of the two aforementioned mid-rangers — over the next few days following the Galaxy S23 release.

As for the stable update, we are expecting Samsung to begin the rollout in October, if not earlier. Once again, flagship devices should get preferential treatment, with the Galaxy S23 series leading the charge. The newly-launched Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables will ship with Android 13 out of the box, as is the Galaxy Tab S9 series. They should also get the Android 14 update before the end of the year. We will keep you posted.

Meta launched its new ‘Threads’ app not long ago, and helped by Twitter woes, it managed to grow rapidly. Inspired by such a successful launch, Mark Zuckerberg said that he believes Threads could reach 1 billion users, reports The Verge.

Zuckerberg said to investors the following: “I’m highly confident we’re going to be able to pour enough gasoline on this to help it grow”. This happened during Meta’s second-quarter earnings call with investors.

They were quite interested in Threads, which is understandable. Zuckerberg also added that it’s a “weird anomaly in the tech industry that there hasn’t been an app like this for text-based convos that has reached 1 billion people”.

As a reminder, Threads managed to reach 100 million signups faster than any other consumer software product… ever! That is saying a lot about its potential, but the tricky part is keeping those users, and expanding steadily.

Threads engagement slowed down since the initial launch mania

Threads engagement is said to have slowed down considerably since the initial breakthrough. Zuckerberg did say that “tens of millions” of people are using the app daily, though.

Meta’s CEO did issue the main goals as of now. He said that Threads needs to add features that are missing, and that the company is working on that. In addition to that, the app’s retention with current users needs to be improved, hence the gasoline comment mentioned earlier.

Another thing worth noting is that Meta’s business improved this year. For the second quarter, Meta reported higher-than-expected earnings, and its stock prices have jumped up.

Meta probably won’t monetize Threads in the near future, as it has plenty of fuel to keep it going elsewhere. The monetization will be coming later on, presuming that Threads ends up being a success.

The blue bird may have flown away, but X (previously known as Twitter) is committed to retaining its Blue subscribers and attracting new ones by constantly introducing new features exclusively for its paid users.
As reported by The Verge, Blue subscribers can now download videos shared by other subscribers on X. However, there are some restrictions. You can only download videos uploaded after this update on or after July 25th, and you must be a verified user above 18 years old to use this feature.
If you’re under 18, your video download setting will be automatically turned off, and you won’t be able to change it.

To download a video from a tweet (X’s official message for the update still refers to posts as tweets) for offline viewing or to create new content to share, for example, on other platforms, here’s what you need to do: Go to the video you want to download, tap the three dots in the top right corner, and then select “Download video.”

If you don’t want other users to download your videos, you can disable this option, but it works on a tweet-by-tweet basis. You can’t turn it off for all your current and future videos at once.

For those who want to opt-out of their videos being downloadable, follow these steps while composing a tweet: After uploading a video, tap “Edit” in the bottom right of the video, then go to “Settings,” and toggle the “Allow video to be downloaded” option on or off.

Keep in mind that once you set this option, it cannot be changed later. If you change your mind in the future, you’ll need to delete the tweet itself to prevent downloads.

The Twitter rebranding has recently begun, and now you’ll see more and more of X’s presence throughout the platform. The app for iOS and Android has received an update, but currently, it’s available only in the beta version. Interestingly, the ex-Twitter offices are also undergoing a rebranding process, removing any trace of the blue bird from what is now known as X headquarters.

According to reports, a privilege escalation vulnerability has been found in Ubuntu systems within the OverlayFS module.

OverlayFS is a Linux filesystem that has been widely used in containers.

OverlayFS allows the deployment of dynamic filesystems with respect to the pre-built images.

However, vulnerable versions of the Ubuntu Operating system have been the default systems provided by most of the Cloud Security Providers (CSPs).

This vulnerability exists as the ovl_copy_up_meta_inode_data module skills permission checks when calling the ovl_do_setxattr on Ubuntu kernels. The CVSS Score for this vulnerability is given as 7.8 (High).

This vulnerability exists as the UBUNTU: SAUCE: overlayfs skip permission checks for trusted.overlayfs.* xattrs.

An attacker without privileges can exploit this vulnerability by setting privileged extended attributes on the mounted files and setting them on the upper files without appropriate checks. The CVSS Score for this vulnerability is given as 7.8 (High).

Conflict of Ubuntu Patch (2018) with Linux Kernel Project (2019 & 2022)

Non-privileged users can access the OverlayFS module via user namespaces which makes it a prime target for local privilege escalation. These vulnerabilities were patched by Ubuntu in 2018.

Nevertheless, Researchers at Wix found that the Linux Kernel Project made some new updates in 2019 and 2022.

Several modifications to the OverlayFS module resulted in a conflict between the previous patches and the latest update.

Exploits are already publicly available for these exploits. Users of Ubuntu versions before 23.04 are recommended to upgrade to the latest version to fix these vulnerabilities from getting exploited.

Ubuntu has released a security notice which patches several vulnerabilities and credited the researchers.

В 2002 году группа компаний «Финанс-Аналитик» была преобразована в инвестиционный холдинг «Финам» (сокращение от Finance Analytic Moscow — под таким тикером компания торговала на РТС в середине 1990-х)[17]. Первая в России[55] выдающая онлайн-займы микрофинансовая организация (МФО) «Платиза» была основана «Финамом» в ноябре 2012 года[55]. В число инвесторов этого проекта были привлечены два российских венчурных фонда Flint Capital и Prostor Capital, вложивших равными долями 3 млн $ в совладельца «Платиза» Federal Finance Group[56].

  2. В 2012 году «Мамба» вошла в топ-30 российских интернет-компаний по версии журнала Forbes, на тот момент её выручка составляла 41 млн $[46].

Вместе со сменой названия произошла смена музыкальной линейки радио, музыкальную часть составили саундтреки к российским и зарубежным фильмам и микс отечественной поп- и рок-музыки. По словам гендиректора «Финам FM» Екатерины Романовой, музыка будет «гармонично вплетаться» в информационный контент[11][10]. На момент приобретения «Финамом» соцсети «МирТесен» в марте 2008 года её сообщество насчитывало около 320 тыс. Ныне «МирТесен» — конструктор тематических сайтов и рекомендательное сообщество их авторов, заинтересованных в полезном контенте и собеседниках по конкретным темам[42].

Компания одной из первых в России приступила к обслуживанию розничных клиентов-частников. Этот приоритет сохранился и в последующие десятилетия[13]. В 1994 году Виктор Ремша с тремя однокурсниками создал компанию «Финанс-Аналитик». Она приступила к изданию специализированного ежедневного информационно-аналитического бюллетеня «Портфель инвестора», обеспечивавшего участников тогдашнего фондового рынка оперативной информацией об эмитентах, котировках бумаг, биржевыми новостями. 1 марта 2014 радиостанция сменила название на «Столица FM».

Услугидля частных лиц

7 февраля 2008 года радиостанция «Финам FM» начала радиовещание на частоте 99,6 МГц, а с 7 мая 2008 года вышла на круглосуточное вещание в новом формате[2]. Радиостанция ориентировалась на мужчин в возрасте от xcritical мошенники 25 до 45 лет «с высоким уровнем дохода и потребления»[3]. Генеральный директор «Финам FM» Олег Медведев заявил, что эфир станции будет на 70 % состоять из музыки и на 30  % из разговорных программ и новостей.

Руководство[править править код]

Среди партнёров площадки большинство крупных СМИ и медиахолдингов России. СМИ2 обеспечивает более 3 млн переходов на их сайты ежедневно[40]. По состоянию на декабрь 2015 года оборот холдинга на международном финансовом рынке составил около 52 млрд $, на российском — около 51 млрд $. Суммарные обороты клиентов «Финама» из более чем 40 стран мира в декабре 2015 года достигли 102 млрд $[6].

В 2011 году первым из российских розничных брокеров «Финам» основал дочернюю компанию в США[1], в Нью-Йорке, а также аффилированные структуры в Пекине, Дели и Бангкоке. Американское подразделение холдинга WhoTrades Inc. стало членом NASDAQ, а WhoTrades Ltd. — Франкфуртской фондовой биржи[10]. В своём нынешнем виде СМИ2 является контент-агрегатором средств массовой информации, в котором их новости в режиме реального времени автоматически выстраиваются в рейтинги (в том числе тематические и региональные) в зависимости от востребованности[38]. Проект СМИ2 входит в топ-10 самых популярных интернет-СМИ России по версии LiveInternet, имея месячную аудиторию 11—15 млн посетителей[39].

«Финам FM»[править править код]

Совокупная месячная аудитория проекта (по состоянию на февраль 2016 года) составляет около 12 млн посетителей[43], он объединяет более 16 млн пользователей[44]. В 2011 гоуд «Финам» вышел из ставшего убыточным бизнеса[35], продав свой миноритарный пакет «Рамблеру» за 1,85 млн $[17]. «Финам» контролирует около 14 % от общего объёма торгов на ММВБ-РТС (2011), предоставляет услуги на всех основных мировых торговых площадках[4], в том числе на NASDAQ, Нью-Йоркской, Гонконгской и др. Услуги по осуществлению операций на рынке Форекс предоставляет ООО «ФИНАМ ФОРЕКС».

Основу эфира Finam FM составляли разговорные передачи и классический англоязычный рок 1960—1980-х годов. После смены владельца и названия основу музыкального эфира составляла современная русскоязычная поп- и рок-музыка. В 2012 году «Мамба» вошла в топ-30 российских интернет-компаний по версии журнала Forbes, на тот момент её выручка составляла 41 млн $[46]. В середине 2013 года совокупная стоимость этого актива оценивалась в 250 млн $[17].

В 2005—2007 годах «Финам» стал портфельным инвестором для двух издателей компьютерных и видеоигр зарубежного и собственного производства — «Бука» и Alawar, — а также онлайн-сервиса по составлению гороскопов Astrostar. В приобретение долей в этих компаниях холдингом было совокупно вложено около 2,6 млн $. От их продажи в последующие три года ему удалось выручить более 15 млн $[17]. В 2008 году Федеральная антимонопольная служба (ФАС) России заблокировала сделку между акционерами «Бегуна» и Google о продаже последнему 100 % акций за 140 млн $. С 2002 года холдинг входит в пятёрку ведущих операторов фондового рынка на ММВБ.

Большую часть музыкального эфира будет занимать западная классическая рок-музыка[4]. Международная сеть виртуальных знакомств Badoo была основана в Лондоне в 2006 году. По состоянию на середину 2013 года оценочная стоимость Badoo составила 1,065 млрд $, причём ФИНАМ на тот момент оценивал эту компанию ещё выше — в 2,5 млрд $[17]. В 2000 году холдинг первым в России предложил услуги интернет-трейдинга, выпустив коробочный софт для удалённого доступа на ММВБ. В этом же году был запущен информационный портал Finam.ru для розничных трейдеров[15].

В 2007 году чуть более 30 % акций компании оказались у Mail.ru Group за 18 млн $[17]. В 2010 году была запущена социальная https://xcritical.live/ сеть для трейдеров WhoTrades. Спустя два года она была преобразована в сервис для онлайн-общения и обучения более 500 тыс.

Прототипом Platiza.ru стал британский сервис Wonga.com[en][55]. Специализация сервиса — круглосуточная выдача микрозаймов до 15 тыс. ₽ на срок до 45 дней с моментальным перечислением средств на дебетовую карту или электронный кошелёк Visa Qiwi Wallet или «Яндекс.Деньги» по процентной ставке от 0,5 до 1 % в день без физического предоставления документов. «Платиза» окупилась через полтора года после запуска, в 2015 году компания оценивалась более чем в 25 млн $[56] и занимала около 25 % рынка[58].

Сеть виртуальных знакомств «Мамба» была основана в 2002 году. Спустя три года база «Мамбы» охватывала 85 % всех желающих познакомиться в Рунете, причём её прибыльность обеспечивалась не продажей баннерной рекламы, а за счёт монетизации аудитории сайта[45]. По результатам 2022 года брокер организовал IBO компании «Антерра», стал соорганизатором размещения облигаций «Патриот Групп» и вошел в синдикат высоконадежных облигаций «ЕвроТранс»[28][29].

По итогам 2004 года находившиеся в доверительном управлении холдинга активы увеличились вдвое по сравнению с 2003 годом. Тогда же «Финам» стал торговать ценными бумагами на фондовых рынках США. В 2006 году биржевые обороты компании превысили 70 млрд $. С 2007 года филиальная сеть холдинга охватила 89 городов России. К 2008 году было сформировано 11 паевых инвестиционных фондов (ПИФ).

Система контекстной рекламы «Бегун» была первой крупной инвестицией холдинга в Интернете[31]. Этот проект основан выходцами из аналитической компании SpyLOG в 2002 году со стартовым бюджетом около 50 тыс. Эти средства вернулись в холдинг в виде дивидендов уже в первый год. За без малого девять лет дивиденды «Финама» от «Бегуна» составили около 35 млн $[17]. В 2007 году инвестхолдинг ФИНАМ, до этого инвестировавший в интернет-проекты, за $10 млн приобрёл «Большое радио», вещавшее на частоте 99,6 МГц. Станция работала в тестовом режиме, и её эфир делили государственная радиовещательная компания «Голос России» и русская служба Би-би-си.

15 декабря 2008 года ведущий радиостанции «Финам FM» Юрий Пронько получил почётный диплом Ассоциации Региональных Банков «Россия». Наградой отмечены его авторские проекты «Сухой остаток» и «Реальное время»[6][7]. В апреле 2011 года Юрий Пронько был удостоен премии «Журналист года» на Всероссийском конкурсе деловой журналистики за 2010 год[8]. В 2012 году руководство радиостанции не стало продлевать контракт с ведущим.

По итогам 2009 года «Финам» стал крупнейшим российским брокером, его доля в обороте фондового рынка России составила 18 %[10]. В августе 2007 года «Финам» приобрёл радиостанцию «Большое радио» и переименовал её в «Финам FM». Радиостанция «Финам FM» вещала в Москве и Московской области на частоте 99,6 МГц, её информационный блок составляли ежедневные авторские программы с экспертами в бизнесе, науке, культуре, музыкальной основой эфира была западная рок-музыка 1960—1980-х годов. Медиахолдинг E-generator, ядром которого является одноимённое агентство маркетинговых коммуникаций, был основан в 2002 году в Новосибирске. $.[36] Совокупная выручка холдинга в 2015 году составила около 6,5 млн $[37]. Два ключевых[37] актива E-generator — новостная соцсеть СМИ2 (запущена в 2006 году) и геолокационная социальная сеть «МирТесен» (основана в 2007 году).
