Twitter is having an interesting day, first with the official changeover to the branding as X and now with San Francisco Police having stopped the removal of the Twitter HQ sign halfway through the process. If you’ve spent any amount of time on the site today then you’ve probably already seen the new logo. Elon Musk confirmed over the weekend that Twitter would be re-branded. The new name is now X and today set those changes in stone. At first it was just the disappearance of the iconic bird logo. Which, by the way, was apparently named Larry.

Larry is gone now. In its place, a generic letter “X” that isn’t even an original logo, but basically just the letter X in unicode. That however, isn’t even the most hilarious part of today’s Musk antics. Because after all these changes, surely the next step would be to change out the company sign on your building. Musk tried to do just that and got all the way to the letter “e” before San Francisco police arrived and shut down the operation. Why is anyone’s guess. But some online seem to think that it might have to do with permits. Or in this case, lack thereof.

Police may have stopped the Twitter HQ sign removal for lack of permits

This hasn’t been confirmed, but the suspicion is that Musk may not have acquired permits for the equipment being used to take down the sign. Presumably, you’d need a permit for that equipment to be on the street. And if Musk didn’t acquire them, it seems reasonable to assume that there was potential for authorities to show up an put a stop to things. Which seems to have happened.

The end result is that now the majority of the sign is gone. But you can still see the letter e and r on one side. The entire “Twitter” branding is still there facing the other direction.

There’s no word yet on whether or not the sign removal will resume. Or when. But it seems likely that if Musk is serious about keeping these changes (he’s rolled back quite a few before), then at some point he’ll want the rest of the sign taken down. Either way, it’s sort of comical if you think about the whole situation.

Twitter will basically become history soon, as Elon Musk plans to rebrand it to ‘X’. Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, confirmed as much recently. Even the X.com redirects to Twitter.com now.

This rebrand will see the Twitter logo get replaced by an “interim X logo”. Musk shared a lot of tweets regarding the rebrand, but he didn’t really say all that much in the process.

We do know that the change is expected at some point today, actually, so we won’t have to wait for long. He even said the following: “we’re cutting the Twitter logo from the building with blowtorches”.

Musk allegedly also sent an email to Twitter employees, informing them of the change. He also mentioned that it’s the last email they’ll receive from a Twitter address.

We know what the logo will look like

Elon Musk said that the company is going for a “minimalist art deco” approach when it comes to the ‘X’ logo. It will likely refine the logo later on, though. Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, went ahead and actually shared the logo the company will be using, it’s shown below.

If you go over to Elon Musk’s Twitter profile, you’ll notice that he changed his profile picture to the ‘X’ logo. It’s not exactly a secret that Elon Musk wants to push Twitter to be the “everything app”.

He bought the X.com domain from PayPal back in 2017, and he’s now putting it in use, it seems. We won’t have to wait for long to see this change, as already mentioned, it’s taking place later today.

We’re not sure if only the logo and the domain name will change, or will we see more changes take place in the process. It’s anyone’s guess at this point, but one thing is for sure, the ‘Twitter’ name and logo are becoming a thing of the past today.

Google is Blocking Employee Internet Access

Google is to start a pilot program to have employees work without internet access as a way to decrease the risk of cyberattacks.

According to internal documents, Google is implementing a program to minimize the likelihood of cyberattacks. The company notes that its employees are often targeted by such attacks.

Google Pilot Program:

The pilot program can refer to different things depending on the context. It can be a small-scale experiment to test a large-scale project, a peer-support initiative for mental health, a virtual program with strategies, tactics, and tools, and a program that creates initiatives for low-income inner-city students.

Initially, the organization selected more than 2500 employees, but they opened it to volunteers to use the pilot program; CNBC reported.

The company planned to enable only internal web-based tools and their owned websites like Gmail and Google Drive. Internet access is allowed only who need compulsory Internet access to work.

As per an internal description, the program aims to decrease the occurrence of cyber-attacks as Googlers are often targeted by such attacks.

Providing internet access to all employees can lead to attackers gaining access to user data and infrastructure code, which may result in a major incident for the company.

Turning off internet access secure from attackers, they cannot easily run arbitrary code remotely or grab data.

Google is training for a companywide rollout of various artificial intelligence tools, trying to boost its security.

Microsoft reported that Chinese intelligence hacked into company email accounts belonging to two dozen government agencies, including the State Department, in the U.S. and Western Europe in a “significant” breach.

“Ensuring the safety of our products and users is one of our top priorities,” a Google spokesperson said.

YouTube just lifted another feature from TikTok

In the social media war, companies “borrowing” features from other companies is not unheard of. We’ve seen features tossed around between TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat, and it’s not stopping anytime soon. YouTube is testing the feature to turn comments into actual Shorts, according to Android Central.

If this sounds familiar, this is a feature that TikTok brought a while back. If someone comments on your “Tok”, you’re able to select that comment and craft a separate video off of that. This could come in handy if someone posts a comment that sticks out to you.

YouTube will let you create Shorts out of comments

There’s no sugar-coating this; YouTube definitely copied TikTok’s homework on this one. It seems like it will function exactly the same way as TikTok’s feature. If someone comments on your Short, you’ll be able to select that comment and create a full Short from that comment. That short will show up on your profile as well as the main Shorts feed.

It seems that other people can create Shorts based comments, and not just the original video creator. So, if you’re watching someone else’s video, you might be able to create a short based on a comment on that video.

That seems neat, but there’s one thing to note. If someone makes a Short based on a comment on your video, YouTube will not notify you. Also, if someone makes a Short on a comment you posted, you won’t be notified. We’re not sure if that’s going to change, as this is still in the early stages.

You most likely won’t see this feature at the moment. YouTube is testing this feature on a limited selection of users. So, chances are that you either won’t see this feature for a while or you won’t see it at all. If you want to see if you’re part of the test, make sure that your YouTube app is up to date.

TSMC delays 4nm Arizona chip production to 2025

It’s no secret that the US government’s push towards reducing the reliance on Taiwan for semiconductors, amidst the Chinese government’s threat, led to the establishment of a new TSMC fab in Phoenix, Arizona. However, the company is reportedly facing major skilled labour shortages, which has led to a delay in the manufacturing of 4nm chips to 2025.

This decision comes after TSMC initially announced plans to begin production in 2024, following President Biden’s signing of the CHIPS and Science Act, which would provide the company with a substantial $15 billion in tax credits.

However, during a recent earnings call, TSMC Chairman Mark Liu revealed that they are facing a shortage of skilled workers with the specialized expertise required for equipment installation in a semiconductor-grade facility in Arizona. As a result, TSMC plans to temporarily import technicians from Taiwan to train local workers and has also established a task force of experienced workers to aid the process.

Moreover, the recent surge in demand for high-performance chips in AI applications has further highlighted the need for new fabrication units in the United States. Nevertheless, CEO Che Chia Wei expressed confidence that the situation will improve by the end of the following year.

The US government’s response

Despite this delay posing concerns about the United States’ plans to achieve self-reliance in semiconductors, the government remains optimistic about addressing the worker shortfall. However, the delay may present challenges for companies that had already placed orders for chips from the Phoenix plant, including Apple, which intended to incorporate 4nm and 3nm chips produced at the facility into future iPhones and Macs.

Moreover, to get the manufacturing process back on track, TSMC is further collaborating with the government to maximize the subsidies and tax credits available under the CHIPS Act, which would cover the first five years of increased premiums associated with semiconductor manufacturing in the United States.

Roblox Developers Conference Attendees’ Data Breached

If you have attended the Roblox Developers Conference between 2017 and 2020, your data has likely been breached. As reported, the RDC data breach exposed personally identifiable information of the conference attendees. Notably, the incident remained hidden for about two years, only to grab attention lately.

Breached Data Affecting Roblox Developers Conference Remained Undetected

In a recent tweet, Troy hunt of HaveIBeenPwned disclosed a data breach incident affected the Roblox Developers Conference.

Hunt basically shared a message that he received from one of the conferences’ attendees, who mentioned about receiving a WhatsApp message from a random person who found his details via his username.

In a subsequent tweet, Hunt revealed that the breached data includes details of thousands of developers who attended the Roblox Developers Conference 2017-2020. It turned out that he received separate messages from different individuals reporting this data breach.

While the actual account of affected individuals remains unclear, Hunt estimates nearly 4000 accounts (precisely, 2943 accounts) to have suffered the incident.

According to the details put up on HIBP website, the list of attendees appeared on a forum containing PII data of the developers (usernames, full names, email address, birth dates, phone numbers, IP addresses, physical addresses, and even the T-shirt sizes.

The email shared in Hunt’s tweet also explained that the incident remained unreported for years, until recently when the breached data list reappeared on a forum and caught attention.

Consequently, the news compelled Roblox to acknowledge the incident and report the affected individuals about it via emails. The firm assured Hunt about informing the affected individuals following his report about the breach. Hunt also shared Roblox’s emails in his tweet while sharing the statement provided to him (mentioned below).

Roblox has now contacted everyone affected. Minimally affected users just got a sorry email. For more seriously affected users they got a year of identity protection and an apology for everyone else.

Affected individuals must check for their details to have appeared in this breach and take necessary protection measures. Specifically, users – including developers – must practice caution when sharing their personal details online. Moreover, users must monitor their financial statements for any suspicious activities.

Twitter announces limit on DMs for unverified users

As Twitter transitions to X, it’s becoming less and less usable for unverified users. Shortly after the company imposed a limit on the number of tweets they can see in a day, it’s putting a limit on their messages as well. The social network recently announced that “unverified accounts will have daily limits on the number of DMs they can send.” It didn’t specify how many messages users without a Twitter Blue subscription can send in a day, though.

According to Twitter, this move will help reduce DM spam, which has been growing rapidly in recent months. Twitter owner Elon Musk previously said that it is getting increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine human users and AI-powered bots. “Soon, it will be impossible,” he added. The only way to tackle this problem is by introducing these kinds of limits for free accounts. Musk says a payment system increases bot cost by ~10,000X, forcing spammers to cease their operations.

To that end, Twitter restricted free users from sending DMs to people who don’t follow them. Blue subscribers, on the other hand, could send DMs to anyone. This didn’t help much to reduce spam, though. It then added a new message setting that automatically moves incoming messages from verified users you don’t follow to the message request inbox. The new setting, which is enabled by default for all users, reportedly reduced spam messages by 70 percent within a week.

Twitter is now preventing unverified users on the app from sending unlimited messages. The company says this change will be effective “soon,” though it didn’t reveal a precise date. It will probably share more details regarding the number of DMs an unverified user is allowed to send in a day once the new limit is effective.

Twitter is trying to get more people to sign up for the Blue subscription

Of course, Twitter is calling all of these moves its anti-spam measures. But deep down, it’s trying to get more people to sign up for the Blue subscription. In fact, the latest announcement from Twitter Support explicitly urges users to “subscribe today to send more messages,” with the tweet containing a link where you can sign up.

All of this comes amid Twitter’s declining income. Musk recently revealed that the company has a negative cash flow (spending more money than it’s making) because of a 50 percent drop in ad revenue. While subscriptions may not be enough to make up for that loss, Twitter would happily take your money and lift the limits on DMs.

Quite recently, we reported that Elon Musk announced a major change for today. He announced that the ‘X’ rebrand is happening, and that Twitter is becoming a thing of the past. That’s exactly what just happened, ‘X’ has landed, and we can all wave goodbye to Twitter.

Do note that the change has started appearing for users, though it may take a bit of time for you to see it on the site/app. A new logo is here too, as announced earlier by the Twitter CEO, in addition to a new name.

The change has started appearing on the web version first, by the way. The update for the app will probably come via an app update, though a server-side change may also take care of it, we’ll see.

This is the first major step towards the ‘everything app’ that Elon Musk so much desires. He bought Twitter back in November, and made a ton of changes thus far. Many of them were not exactly popular.

The Twitter logo and name are a thing of the past

The beloved Twitter logo and name are now becoming a thing of the past, and are being replaced by a rather cold-looking X logo. Elon Musk allegedly informed its employees of the change too, yesterday.

He told them that the change is coming, and that he was sending the very last email from the Twitter.com domain. X.com is taking over, as the rebrand is taking place as we speak.

We’ll probably get more info throughout the day, as we’re expecting either the company or Elon Musk to speak more about the change, perhaps even both, we’ll have to wait and see.

For the time being, all we’re seeing is the new logo and name change happening on the web. Let’s see what else will happen during the day, if anything.

Critical Zyxel Firewall Injection Flaw Exploited

Increased botnet activity targeting vulnerability(CVE-2023-28771) in Zyxel devices has become a major concern to its users.

This vulnerability lets the unauthorized attacker execute the arbitrary code by sending a specifically crafted packet to the targeted device.

Since CISA added this vulnerability to the Known Exploited vulnerability, the surge of the attack has increased, and the severity of the flaw is rated as 9.8.

According to FortiGuard researchers, multiple botnets, including Dark.IoT-a variant based on Mirai and botnet that can perform customizable DDOS attacks was involved in targeting the vulnerability.

Botnet activity

Analysis of Attack:

The traffic has been observed across multiple regions, such as Central America, North America, and East and South Asia.

Threat actors specifically target the command injection vulnerability in the Internet Key Exchange (IKE) packet transmitted over UDP on Zyxel devices.

Later, They utilize curl or wget tools to download scripts to tailor MIPS architecture for further malicious actions.

The initial scripts downloaded rename themselves and execute zywall parameters to ensure the connectivity of ZyXEL vulnerability.

Additional scripts associated with Rapperbot malware were downloaded from a different server which further downloads MIPS script files to make persistence.

This shows threat actors utilized multiple servers for this campaign to compromise the ZyXEL devices.

Threat actors update their tactics and techniques frequently within a short time frame to maximize the compromised device.

As said earlier, one of the botnets employed by the threat actor is Dark—Iot which utilizes an openNIC server for DNS resolution and communication with the C2 server.

Devices with known vulnerabilities should be patched and updated as soon as possible to prevent attacks and compromises.

Once the victim system receives the attack command, it starts a DDoS attack on a specific IP address and port number. One example of this DDoS attack traffic is shown below.

Now, TikTok lets you make text-based posts

Right now, there’s a war raging between Threads and the artist formerly known as Twitter. They’re battling for microblogging supremacy, but a new army has entered the battlefield. TikTok now allows its users to make text-based posts.

This should come as no surprise. TikTok is NOT shy about stepping on the toes of other social media/video-sharing platforms. We’ve seen it rain on Instagram’s parade by bringing in photo posts, and the platform also lets you make stories.

TikTok lets its users make text-based posts

This feature comes at the most convenient time. Twitter… or X, rather, is slowly imploding. Meta just showed us what a well-backed Twitter clone could do. It’s like a perfect storm, and TikTok wants to take advantage.

According to The Verge, this feature is now available for TikTok users. If you don’t see the feature yet, you might want to sit tight, as it could still be rolling out. When you make a text-based post, it will look similar to a story. You’re able to add backgrounds, music, and stickers as well.

While this sounds like a basic story, they’re different. For starters, these posts can be up to 1,000 characters long. Also, TikTok didn’t say that these posts expire after a period of time. Essentially, these are like the text-based posts that you’d see on other platforms, but they’re augmented with backgrounds, stickers, and music.

How to make your posts

If you’re excited about making your text posts, they’re easy to do. First, make sure that your app is up to date. Find it on the Play Store or the Apple App Store and check for an update. We were not able to access the feature at Android Headlines, and we’re running version 30.4.5.

If you have the latest version, go to the Create screen. There, you should see three options for the type of content: photo, video, and text. Swipe to select the Text option.

When you do that, you’ll be brought to the text entry UI. Type out your message, customize it, and post it for all of your adoring followers!
