This is a water repellent smartphone, not quite water proof. But it can take a splash or two without any issues.

Four months after Disney+ launched its ad-supported plan, it’s finally available on Roku. It’s unclear if Disney and Roku sat down and hammered out a deal or not, but nonetheless, it is now available.

This means that Roku users can now use Disney+ with or without ads on the platform. As well as any combination of the Disney+ bundle.

Disney nor Roku has offered any details since December about this. So this just popped up out of nowhere on Roku’s platform. Now, Roku users have even more ways to watch Disney+ than ever before. Which is definitely good to see.

Disney+ with Ads should boost its subscriber numbers

With Disney+ launching its ad-supported plan, it should grow its subscribers even more than it had already done so. Disney+ launched just a few months before the pandemic started. Which led them to picking up a ton of subscribers. Surpassing their five-year goals in just a few months. Though, since the pandemic ended, many have canceled Disney+. So that’s where the ads versions comes into play.

With this version of Disney+, the company should bring in more money from Ads, and also be able to bring in more subscribers. Back in March, a report showed that about 20% of its signups for Disney+ were for the ads tier, back in December. Which means that ti is outperforming other AVOD offerings from Netflix and HBO MAX, in their first 30 days on the market. That is quite impressive for Disney.

So how did this get resolved? Well, it’s likely that Disney gave Roku what it was looking for. Which is likely a cut of the ad revenue. Which is what Roku does with other apps that show ads on its platform. Remember that Roku sells its products basically at cost. So they aren’t making money on hardware. Where they make money is ads. Whether that be on the Roku Channel, or from other apps on the platform.

The Lord of The Rings has been present in multiple forms of media, and that includes video games. There’s a new game in the works by Electronic Arts, and it’s called Lord of The Rings Heroes. The game will come out next month.

At the moment, there’s not much more to go on than the trailer that launched a while back. What we do know is that this game will be a free-to-play RPG taking place in Middle Earth. As such, most of the gameplay will revolve around assembling a team of characters from the franchise and battling your way through enemies.

In a brief gameplay trailer, we see some of the mechanics in the game. It looks like the game will have level-based campaigns that will earn you all sorts of goodies if you beat them. In the trailer, we can see that there will be at least four campaigns.

As for the characters, you shouldn’t be shocked to know that this game will use well-known characters from the Lord of The Rings books, movies, and shows. That’s going to be one of the main draws to this game.

Since this is a free-to-play RPG, you know that it’s going to be pretty monetized, but we won’t know to what extent. When it comes to currencies, we see that there are gold coins and crystals. Also, we see that it’s going to be on the energy system. This means that it costs energy to do battle. If you run out, you’ll either have to pay or wait for it to replenish.

Lord of The Rings Heroes launches in May

Bally Sports’ parent-company, Diamond Sports Group has entered bankruptcy, but it still has not paid the MLB for the rights for many of its teams that it broadcasts. Including the Cleveland Guardians and Minnesota Twins. Now, the MLB has filed an emergency motion to force DSG to either pay the rights fees that the MLB is owed, or to forfeit its rights to those two teams.

Bally Sports Great Lakes and Bally Sports North continue to broadcast the games, even though DSG has not paid the teams what is owed to them.

The filing from the MLB shows that by April 13 Diamond either needs to fork over the cash, or fork over their rights to those two teams. The final payment to the Guardians is actually due tomorrow, April 8. However if DSG does miss that payment, it would kick off a 10-day grace period that is built into the contract. But judging by this filing and the language in it, the MLB is running out of patience.

More teams could follow

Other teams that DSG broadcasts – Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers – are noted in the filing, that if DSG doesn’t make their payments to them in the future, that they could join the Guardians and Twins.

MLB’s commissioner, Rob Manfred, has stated before that the league is prepared to take over the broadcasting of these games, if DSG does not pay them the money they are owed.

So why is the MLB simply not taking their rights back from Bally Sports and other RSNs? Well, money. These RSNs pay the league and its teams a handsome amount of money to broadcast these games. And if the MLB took them back, they would lose out on that money. For instance, the Kansas City Royals are getting paid $52 million per year from Bally Sports. And that’s a relatively small market.

Because of the drama with RSNs, not just Bally Sports, but also AT&T SportsNet, the MLB has started to air some games for certain teams on MLB.TV in-market. And on opening day, MLB.TV saw a record viewership. Having a total of 172 million minutes streamed on the service. If the RSNs go away, those numbers could be dwarfed in a short amount of time.

Samsung may be readying four Galaxy Tab S9 models for launch later this year. The previously-rumored Galaxy Tab S9, Galaxy Tab S9+, and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra may be accompanied by a Galaxy Tab S9 FE. This is according to recent Geekbench listings.

Samsung is seemingly readying a Galaxy Tab S9 FE as well

We have long known that Samsung will launch three flagship Android tablets later this year. The company debuted three Galaxy Tab S8 models last year, and it was no rocket science that it would do the same this year. The base Galaxy Tab S9 will bear the model numbers SM-X710 (Wi-Fi), SM-X716B (5G Global), and SM-X718U (5G US). Likewise, the Galaxy Tab S9+ will be identified by SM-X81* and the Ultra model by SM-X91*.

Leaks have already revealed a lot about these devices. For the first time, Samsung is said to be offering an official IP rating for dust and water resistance on its flagship tablets. The entire lineup will reportedly boast an IP67 rating. We also know that the tablets will ship with the same Qualcomm chipset that powers the Galaxy S23 series globally. It’s the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that is exclusive to Samsung. Leaks have also revealed details about the Ultra model’s display, battery, charging speed, and memory configuration.

All this while there haven’t been any rumors about a Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Samsung launched a Galaxy Tab S7 FE in May 2021 as an affordable premium tablet but didn’t follow it up with a Galaxy Tab S8 FE. However, a mysterious new Galaxy tablet recently popped up on Geekbench with the model number SM-X516B. This model number is identical to the ones listed above, suggesting that we are looking at the Galaxy Tab S9 FE here. If not, it should still arrive as a new mid-range tablet from Samsung.

Unsurprisingly, this tablet doesn’t get the flagship Snapdragon processors as the rest of the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup. Instead, Samsung is equipping it with the Exynos 1380, a premium mid-range processor launched earlier this year. It powers the Galaxy A54 5G globally. The Geekbench listing shows the SM-X516B with 6GB of RAM. The SM-X716B (Galaxy Tab S9) and SM-X916B (Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra) showed up with 8GB of RAM. The Galaxy Tab S9+ (SM-X816B) hasn’t appeared on Geekbench yet.

The new Samsung tablets will launch in the second half of 2023

Samsung’s new flagship tablet lineup is still months away. The Galaxy Tab S9 series isn’t expected to arrive until the second half of this year. More precisely, the tablets should break cover sometime in August or September 2023. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables should also debut on the same day. Samsung may launch the Galaxy Watch 6 series and a new pair of TWS earbuds as well. We will keep you posted with the latest information about these upcoming Galaxy devices.

There hasn’t been a lot of good news for the Pac-12 in recent months. With UCLA and USC heading to the Big Ten, and the Pac-12’s TV deal with FOX and ESPN expiring in 2024, the conference is struggling to get a new deal in place.

The Pac-12 has been talking with many different partners, including Amazon and Apple. Now, CBS Sports is reporting that the Pac-12 is unlikely to find a broadcast partner that can air more than 50% of its games on linear television.

The conference is looking to get around $31.6 million per school in a new deal, which is what the Big 12 got in its most recent media rights deal. And with the Big 12 and Big Ten having recently negotiated new deals early, there’s not a lot of capital left for the Pac-12.

The Pac-12 losing two of its biggest draws, is a big reason for this

The Pac-12, which consists of 12 schools for now, is one of the smaller Power 5 conferences out there. And after 2024, it’ll be even smaller. As the Pac-12 is losing two of its biggest draws in UCLA and USC. Which are basketball and football powerhouses, respectively. They’d also lose that Los Angeles market, almost entirely.

That’s making it tougher for the Pac-12 to get a media rights deal in place. Without UCLA and USC, who do they have. Oregon? Washington? Arizona? Sure, but those aren’t as big of a draw as USC and UCLA. Meanwhile, the Big Ten has Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and now they’ll have USC and UCLA. Giving them even more of the biggest games in college football and basketball.

There is talk about the Pac-12 having to lean on The CW and ION for getting 50% of their games on linear television. The CW wouldn’t be too bad, since they do have legacy television stations across the country, and is available on most streaming TV services. But that would be an odd place for sports.

What will likely happen is, the Pac-12 will strike a deal with Amazon Prime Video or Apple TV+. Both of which already stream sports – Apple more than Amazon. Apple TV+ has the MLS Season Pass now, and also broadcasts Friday Night Baseball in the summer for the MLB. Adding in the Pac-12 could be a huge get for them. But they are unlikely to pay the Pac-12 what they want.

A new malware strain known as the cybersecurity analysts at Trustwave SpiderLabs recently discovered Rilide. This new malware is specifically designed to attack web browsers that are built on the Chromium platform, including:-

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Brave
  • Opera

Trustwave SpiderLabs researchers have discovered that Rilide camouflages itself as a legit Google Drive extension to evade detection and leverages inherent Chrome features for malicious purposes.

Abilities of Rilide

There is a multitude of malicious activities that can be carried out by threat actors using Rilide malware, including the following:-

  • Monitoring browsing history
  • Taking screenshots
  • Injecting malicious scripts

Trustwave SpiderLabs has previously encountered other instances of malware exploiting harmful browser extensions, and Rilide is no exception.

Malicious Campaigns

Rilide’s unique capability to exploit counterfeit dialogs is what sets it apart from other malware. These dialogs are then used to trick users into disclosing their two-factor authentication (2FA) information, which it then employs to steal cryptocurrencies covertly.

Two malicious campaigns were discovered by SpiderLabs, designed to install the Rilide browser extension on the victim’s device.

Here below, we have mentioned campaigns:-

  • Campaign 1: Ekipa RAT Installing Rilide Stealer
  • Campaign 2: Aurora Stealer Abusing Google Ads

There are two methods of loading the extension through the Rust loader:-

  • One is done via Google Ads
  • Other is done via Aurora Steale

To distribute the malicious extension, one of them uses the Ekipa RAT. Trustwave reports that there is an overlap between the malware and similar extensions that are sold to cybercriminals, although the origin of the malware is unknown.

Furthermore, some parts of its code have been leaked on an underground forum following a dispute over hackers’ overpayment that has not been resolved.

An Extension Like Leech

A malicious extension is dropped on the compromised system by Rilide’s loader through modifications to the web browser shortcut files.

When the malware is executed, it executes a script that attaches a listener to the process. Threat actors usually use a listener like this to detect when a victim switches tabs, receives content from a website, or loads a page.

Furthermore, the site’s current URL is checked against the list of targets available on the C2 server to determine if it matches.

The extension will load additional scripts when a match is found, which will then be injected into the webpage to steal information from the victim. While the data targeted is mainly related to:-

  • Cryptocurrencies
  • Email account credentials
  • Bank wallets

The malicious extension not only bypasses the ‘Content Security Policy’ (CSP) feature of a web browser to load external resources that are usually blocked freely, but it also can capture screenshots and exfiltrate browsing history is then transmitted to the attacker’s command-and-control (C2) server.

Bypassing 2FA

Rilide’s forging system is triggered when a victim tries to withdraw cryptocurrency from an exchange service targeted by malware. At this point, the malicious script is injected in the background, allowing the malware to process the request automatically.

To complete the withdrawal process, Rilide uses the code entered by the user on the fake dialog. Once done, the withdrawal amount is automatically transferred to the threat actor’s wallet address.

If the user accesses their mailbox through the same web browser, Rilide replaces email confirmations, including the withdrawal request email, which is substituted with a fake device authorization request.

The advancement of Rilide highlights the increasingly sophisticated nature of malicious browser extensions, which now feature live monitoring and automated systems for stealing money.

Although the enforcement of Manifest v3 may make it more challenging for threat actors to operate, it is improbable to resolve the problem entirely since most of Rilide’s functions will still be accessible.

Samsung introduced several new camera features with the Galaxy S23 series in February and pushed further improvements with a massive update last week. In the meantime, the company has been bringing those features to older Galaxy devices. One UI 5.1 brought many of those last month, while some others, such as Image Clipper, arrived recently with the April update (for the Galaxy S22 series). It isn’t done yet, though. The Korean firm is working on bringing more Galaxy S23 camera features to older models.

In a recent community post in Samsung’s South Korean forums, a moderator said that the company is in the process of adding front camera support in Pro and Pro Video modes to the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 4. These phones will also get front camera support in the Expert RAW app. You will get professional-level controls while capturing selfies and selfie videos. They will get the new 300x Astro Hyperlapse feature as well, along with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It lets you capture the stars and star trails in the night sky.

Additionally, Samsung is currently reviewing the compatibility of Galaxy S23’s improved lens switching effect for the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and Galaxy Z Flip 4. If things work perfectly, it will push this feature to these phones with a new update soon. It controls zooming dynamically to make lens switching a seamless experience. Last but not least, the company says Image Clipper will be available for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, and all foldable models except for the first-gen Galaxy Fold. As said earlier, the Galaxy S22 recently received this feature.

Camera Assistant update will bring more new features to older Galaxy devices

In addition to these features, Samsung is also preparing to bring a few more camera features to its Galaxy devices with a new update for the Camera Assistant app. The app recently added a “prioritize focus over speed” feature to the Galaxy S23 series. As the name implies, it improves your phone’s autofocus at the cost of focus speed. You can disable the feature if you want fast capturing and don’t care much about precise focusing. The Galaxy S22 series will get this feature soon. There’s no word yet on its availability for other models, though.

Other Galaxy S23 camera features that recently reached older models include the Expert RAW shortcut in the stock camera app, new selfie effects, improved QR code recognition, enhanced photo remastering, GIF remastering, and auto framing of the subject. The Gallery app also gained improvements for search, story, and information functions. We will keep you posted as Samsung pushes these promised updates.

Over the past few years, malicious browser extensions have become a common phenomenon, with hackers using them to steal private information and even money. Now, cybersecurity researchers from Trustwave SpiderLabs have discovered a new strain of malware that targets cryptocurrency wallets. Dubbed Rilide, this malware poses as a Google Drive extension for Chromium-based browsers, and if installed, it can monitor a victim’s browsing history, capture screenshots, and even inject malicious scripts to withdraw money from cryptocurrency exchanges.

How does Rilide work?

Once Rilide is installed, it runs a script that monitors the victim’s actions, such as when they switch tabs or when web content is received or pages finish loading. So if the current site matches a list of targets available from the command and control (C2) server, the extension loads additional scripts that can steal information related to cryptocurrencies, email account credentials, and more. Additionally, the extension also disables the “Content Security Policy” on the targeted websites, which protects users against cross-site scripting attacks by blocking the installation of external resources.

Trustwave says they found two separate campaigns that distributed the malware. One campaign used Google Ads and Aurora Stealer to load the extension via a Rust loader, while the other campaign used the Ekipa remote access trojan (RAT) to distribute the malware.

Evading 2FA

What sets Rilide apart is how it uses “forged dialogs” to trick users into giving away their multi-factor authentication keys. Therefore, when the malware detects that a user has a cryptocurrency exchange account, it attempts to make a withdrawal request in the background while presenting a forged device authentication dialog to obtain the 2FA code. The extension also replaces email confirmations with device authorization requests, thus tricking the user into providing the authorization code.

To reduce the risk of falling victim to malware like Rilide, it’s crucial to install extensions only from reputable sources and to review and regularly uninstall any unnecessary extensions. Additionally, users should keep their browser and operating system up to date with the latest security patches and use reliable antivirus software.

All of these actions were performed with the best of the organization in mind, but ended up taking confidential information outside of the company. To remind employees about the dangers associated with such actions, several companies have taken action: JPMorgan has restricted workers’ use of ChatGPT, for example, and Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung Electronics, and Wal-Mart have all issued warnings to employees to take care in using generative AI services.

While there is no reason to assume that information submitted to ChatGPT will be shared with others, there is also no certainty that it will not.
