Twitch policies for sexual content are now less strict

[UPDATE: Twitch rescinded the change with another police update ]

Most social platforms have strict rules in place against nudity and sexual content. They might even ban or suspend users for posting explicit images and videos. However, the streaming service Twitch is taking a U-turn. It is loosening some of its rules that were enacted against posting sexual material, BBC reports.

As Twitch states in its blog post, the previous rules were “confusing.” So it was difficult for users to determine how the platform treats their content. “We want streamers to feel confident they understand our rules and viewers to feel confident they will get the experience they expect.” To do so, Twitch has updated its approach toward sexual content and content classification labels.

The first change is the Sexually Suggestive Content and Sexually Explicit Content policies are now consolidated into a single category, dubbed “Sexual Content Policy.” The new policy clarifies which type of sexual content is banned on Twitch.

Twitch revises its sexual content policies for more clarity

Meanwhile, streamers can still label explicit content that might not be suitable for all viewers. Some sexual content that was previously banned on Twitch is now allowed with the Sexual Themes Label. For example, content that “deliberately highlighted breasts, buttocks or pelvic region” is permitted with labels.

Additionally, the drawn, animated, or sculpted breasts, genitals, and buttocks, regardless of gender, are allowed. Body writing on female-presenting breasts or buttocks, regardless of gender, and erotic dances that involve disrobing or disrobing gestures are other cases of newly allowed content on Twitch.

Twitch further notes that games that feature nudity and pornography as a “core focus” or feature are entirely banned on the platform. Also, Twitch itself can enable Sexual Themes Label for the content it finds explicit but not labeled by the streamer.

Twitch took a similar path with Hot Tub Streams

In 2021, a new kind of stream suddenly became popular on Twitch: Hot Tub Streams. The stream involved women with swimwear in their at-home hot tubs. Everyone thought Twitch might ban users who post such content.

However, the platform said in a blog post that “being found to be sexy by others is not against our rules, and Twitch will not take enforcement action against women, or anyone on our service, for their perceived attractiveness.” Twitch even introduced a new category called “Pools, Hot Tubs and Beaches” so users can find related streams more easily.

Samsung rolls out December update to the Galaxy Watch 5

0
[ad_1]

Samsung has released a new update for its Galaxy Watch 5 series smartwatches. The company is pushing the latest, December 2023 security patch to the wearables. The update also brings system stability and reliability improvements. There aren’t any new features or functional enhancements in tow.

The Galaxy Watch 5 series receives Samsung’s December update

Samsung’s December security update is rolling out to both Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. The new firmware build number for the devices is BWL1 (last four characters). As the official changelog reveals, it is a relatively small update with the latest security fixes and stability improvements. Samsung may have optimized the system software for a more reliable performance.

The Korean firm’s updated security bulletin for December 2023 mentions more than 60 vulnerability patches for the Galaxy family. At least seven of those are confirmed to be critical security issues. The vast majority of the remaining fixes concern high-severity flaws. Most of these issues likely don’t exist on the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, but a few surely do. Samsung’s latest update will safeguard the two watches against these vulnerabilities.

This is the first update for Samsung’s 2022 smartwatches since they picked up the One UI 5 Watch upgrade in August. Based on Wear OS 4, the previous update was a major one that brought tons of new features and functional improvements. From new watch faces and tiles to improvements for Samsung Health, call controls, camera controls, gestures, and more, the Galaxy Watch 5 duo received a lot of goodies. The latest update is all about security fixes.

If you are using either model, keep an eye on the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected smartphone. You should receive a notification from the app once the update reaches your unit. You can also manually check for updates from the app or the watch itself. Go to Watch settings (Settings app on watch) > Software update > Download and install. Note that OTA (over the air) updates are released in batches and may not be available to everyone at the same time.

Other Samsung smartwatches may also soon receive a new update

Samsung may soon push new updates to the Galaxy Watch 4 series and Galaxy Watch 6 series too. The former lineup received the One UI 5Watch upgrade in September and hasn’t received any update since. The Galaxy Watch 6 series, on the other hand, debuted with One UI 5 Watch and last received an update in early November. We will let you know when Samsung releases new updates for these watches.

Galaxy Buds 3 Pro to feature on-device AI for real-time translation

0
[ad_1]

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy Book 4 series Windows laptops with AI integration. The company is also gearing up to introduce the Galaxy S24 series flagship smartphone next month with on-device AI capabilities. Leaks have revealed that the new phones are laden with AI features. It appears the Korean behemoth will offer some sort of AI functions on its next-gen wireless earbuds—Galaxy Buds 3 Pro—too.

Galaxy Buds 3 Pro may boast on-device AI capabilities

In October, Samsung launched the Galaxy Buds FE as an affordable pair of TWS earbuds. They offer excellent sound quality, noise cancelation, and other features for their price point ($99). However, the Galaxy Buds FE isn’t the company’s flagship wireless earphone. The new buds lack in some areas, including touch controls. They aren’t on the same level as the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, which debuted in August last year.

Samsung is expected to bring a sequel to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro in the second half of 2024, possibly alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 foldables. While details are scarce, renowned X tipster Revegnus recently revealed an interesting piece of information about the next-gen flagship TWS earbuds from the Korean firm. They say the new buds will boast on-device AI capabilities.

According to the source, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro will use AI for real-time translation services. The Korean media suggests that Samsung may offer real-time translation of voices during calls. Moreover, the buds may be able to translate face-to-face conversations as they happen, eliminating any language barrier between two individuals. The company could be working on more AI features for the upcoming wireless earbuds.

AI could also help enhance some of the existing features of Samsung’s Galaxy Buds. Samsung could use artificial intelligence for a more effective active noise cancelation (ANC) and ambient mode. Unfortunately, not much is known about the specs and features of the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. The Korean firm may improve the audio quality and battery life over the current Pro model.

Samsung won’t launch new earbuds with the Galaxy S24 series

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S24 series on January 17, 2024. The upcoming flagship trio seemingly won’t be accompanied by new earbuds. The company recently launched an affordable pair, so it isn’t rushing to bring the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro to the market. The next-gen flagship earbuds will probably debut alongside the 2024 Galaxy foldables. We will let you know when we have more information.

The Pixel Recorder now uses the cloud to expand its transcribing capabilities

0
[ad_1]

The Google Pixel Recorder is probably the smartest audio recording app on a smartphone, and the company keeps making it smarter. According to a new report, Google found a way to extend the available list of supported languages. It’s called Transcribe Again, and it will make the Pixel Recorder much more useful.

The Pixel Recorder is an app that you can only access if you own a Pixel device. It has access to several powerful features, like on-device voice dictation, automatic voice labeling, clip editing, and more. Some of the features will depend on the model of Pixel phone you have. Sometimes, Google brings advanced features to the newest Pixel phone to entice you.

Right now, there’s a list of supported languages that the app can use in the Pixel Recorder. It’s a nice amount, but you can’t expect an app to have all of the languages. You’re likely to run into a language that’s not supported. This is why tools as powerful as the Pixel Recorder need some assistance.

The Pixel Recorder is getting a Transcribe Again feature

The Pixel Recorder for newer Pixel devices uses on-device speech recognition to create a transcript. However, there’s a limit to how many languages can be stored on a device. So, the Transcribe Again feature uses the cloud to augment its transcription abilities. When you use this feature, Google will send the recording to the cloud and transcribe it there. Google’s cloud servers have access to many more languages, so you’ll have more luck finding the language that you’re looking for.

The name of the feature is a bit confusing. It almost sounds like a feature that will take an existing transcription and re-do it. However, as 9To5Google has found out, that’s not the case.

How to access the feature

Accessing the extended list of languages is easy. After you’ve made a recording, simply tap on the three-button menu above the recording. You’ll see the Transcribe Again button about halfway down. When you tap on that option, you’ll see the extended list of languages.

Depending on the size of the file, it could take a little while to transcribe. The process could take up to a few minutes, so don’t worry if it’s not instant. The feature is rolling out now. It should be available to everyone who’s eligible. If you don’t have it, then you’ll want to make sure that your app is fully updated.

New Playlists Created by AI might be coming to Spotify Soon

0
[ad_1]

This year, we’ve seen artificial intelligence get added to virtually everything. And it seems like some companies aren’t finished yet. TikTok user @robdad_ posted a clip on the site with the caption, “I just randomly discovered Spotify’s ChatGPT?” The clip shows the feature available as an option under Your Library, and after tapping the plus sign to create a new playlist, a few prompts appear.

The test shows that you can ask for anything, with a disclaimer at the bottom saying “Powered by AI”.

Spotify has confirmed to TechCrunch that they are working on this feature. It’s currently available in a small test. It’s unclear if Spotify will roll this out to everyone or when that might happen. Spotify is likely feeding it to a small group of users to see the feedback and how well it works. Google does this quite often with updates to its apps. And Spotify also routinely runs tests on different features to see how their users will react and if it improves the experience.

Spotify already uses AI for its DJ feature

Spotify is already using artificial intelligence for its DJ feature, which basically acts like your own personal DJ. It does use Xavier Jernigan as a host from time to time in the DJ. Jernigan was part of Spotify’s popular “Get Up” show that aired every day on the service. It acted as a morning show, giving you news and talking about topics mixed in with some of your favorite shows.

AI DJ uses Generative AI from Open AI (the creators of ChatGPT). This is put in the hands of its music editors to help provide you with insightful facts about the music, artists, or genres that you’re listening to. And it uses Spotify’s very popular and very good personalization technology. So you’re getting a lineup of music recommendations based on what they know you like.

Using AI to create different playlists could be a very interesting feature. However, it could be limited at first, based on how well it tests. If it succeeds, you can bet that Apple Music, YouTube Music, and others will add it too.

Your favorite Maps app is counting on you to make roads safer! But do you know how to report changes in Apple Maps, Google Maps and Waze?

0
[ad_1]
“The Road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began”, as one of the greatest heroes of all times said, the 3 foot 6 inches tall Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

Sometimes, though, when you’re riding your car, the road does not go “ever on and on”, despite what your Maps app is showing (or telling) you. The road suddenly stops, or it’s altered beyond recognition, or – this is fun – there’s a new road in a place where you weren’t expecting one at all.

The fun quickly turns into a major inconvenience – or worse – when you’re driving fast, or you’re late, or both. That’s why it’s super important for Maps apps to guide us with accurate, reliable and up-to-date data.

This is where the “You”-factor comes in. The more user-reported inputs there are, the better the navigation apps become.

In this article, we’ve gathered the fastest and most convenient ways for users to report road changes, accidents and other issues on the road thus making it a better, safer driving/riding experience for everybody out there.

This article is focused on tips for Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze and how to report road changes on each platform.

What’s the current state of Maps apps?

Not all Maps apps are created equal. Apple Maps, for all its exciting and cool features, has made headlines recently with some users’ observations that it’s no match for Google Maps when it comes to how quickly it updates and shows newly opened roads. While Google Maps showed the correct info, Apple Maps struggled and misled users with old data, showing old roads and not the up-to-date infrastructure map.

Google Maps may have an age advantage, being launched as early as 2005 (Apple Maps was launched in 2012), but that’s not an excuse, since Apple definitely has the resources to make Apple Maps shine and, you know, not show old maps.

Of course, there’s more to it than just which app has been around longer, or which has a richer daddy. Like the fact that while Google Maps and Waze are different animals altogether, they cross-share data and may have an advantage over their competitors.

Reporting Road Changes in Apple Maps

Even if you’re not living in the US, where Apple is king, there’s a high chance that you’re using the native iOS navigation app. There’s no need for you to inspect, poke and tweak every single thing on Apple Maps, but having the knowledge on how to report a road change – or hazard – is a must. One option is to use Siri and say something like “Hey Siri, report an accident” or “Hey Siri, there’s something in the road”. Or, you can do it on your iPhone.

Here’s how to do it while you’re using turn-by-turn directions:

  1. Tap the gray upward arrow at the bottom of the screen of Apple Maps.
  2. Tap Report an Incident, then select one of the options: Crash, Hazard, Speed Check, or Roadwork.

Here’s how to do it from the main Maps screen:
  1. Tap your image next to the search field, then tap Reports.
  2. Tap Report a New Issue at the bottom of the screen, then select the type of report
  3. Add the information for the issue, then tap Send in the upper-right corner.

There’s a section called “Incidents Reported”. Here you can only see the type and number of incidents previously reported.

Reporting Road Changes in Google Maps

Vice versa, you don’t have to be an Android pundit to use Google Maps, so this tip will be of use to iOS users as well. I’ve personally seen sworn Apple zealots using Google Maps all the time (they just pretend nothing happened, and carry on to praise Apple after they get out of the car).

Here’s how to do it in Google Maps:

  1. Tap Explore and then Crisis and then Report road closure.
  2. Tap the road you want to report as closed.
  3. Tap Next.
  4. Give any extra information about the closure.
  5. Tap Send.

Adding or fixing roads on Google Maps is a bit trickier, and it requires a computer. To fix incorrect info about a road, open Google Maps on your computer.
  1. In the top left, click the three-lined Menu icon.
  2. On the left, click Edit the map and then Add or fix a road.
  3. On the map, select the road you want to fix.
  4. On the left, verify the road segment selected.
  5. Under “Edit information,” select the type of info you want to fix and enter the correction.
  6. Click Done and then Submit.

To add a missing road, again you’ll need to open Google Maps on your computer.
  1. In the top left, click the three-lined Menu icon.
  2. On the left, click Edit the map and then Add or fix a road.
  3. On the top, click Add road.
  4. On the map, click the location where the missing road begins and drag to the location where the road ends.
  5. On the left, add the road name and road type and click Done.
  6. To add additional missing roads, repeat steps 4-6.
  7. Click Submit.

Reporting Road Changes in Waze

And then, there’s Waze – if you’ve not heard of it, you’ll be surprised how popular this navigation app actually is. It’s popular mainly because of a certain feature, but you shouldn’t exceed speed limits anyway.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Tap the triangular orange exclamation mark icon.
  2. Swipe up to open the full menu.
  3. Tap Closure.
  4. Tap the arrow to mark that segment of the road as closed.
  5. Tap Next.
  6. Tap the camera icon to take a photo of the closure.
  7. Tap Add a comment to add more details about the closure.
  8. Tap Duration to add how long the road will be closed. If you don’t know, tap N/A.
  9. Tap Send to send your report.

Your report will immediately affect your route and Waze will avoid the road closure. The closure will appear on the map once more Wazers report the same closure, and will be removed when Wazers start driving on the road again.

Tips for Effective Reporting

For the tips to be effective and to result in the desired Maps app updates and corrections, users must act consciously and provide precise descriptions, exact locations and as many details as possible (that doesn’t mean to let go of the wheel and jotting down 300-word reports while going 90 miles an hour).Bonus tip: Don’t rely too heavily on just a single navigation app. The safest thing to do before a longer journey is to check two or more apps for your route. After all, you want a nice trip, not to trip, right?

New Lock Screen Bypass Discovered For Android 13 And 14

0
[ad_1]

Heads up, Android users! A new lock screen bypass demonstrates the security vulnerability in Android 13 and 14 devices that risks stored data. While Google knows the issue, a patch is not yet available. However, the tech giant has pledged to address the matter with the February 2024 update.

Android 13, 14 Lock Screen Bypass Exposes Stored Data

Security researcher Jose Rodriguez recently disclosed a new lock screen bypass vulnerability affecting the latest Android 13 and Android 14 devices.

As demonstrated in a video (shared below), the researcher could bypass the lock screen on an Android 14 device. Exploiting the vulnerability required the researcher to open a Google Maps link directly via the lock screen. Once done, returning from Google Maps could allow explicit access to the device.

This lock screen bypass typically affects the latest Android 13 and 14 OS versions, allowing an adversary to access the data in the device. Anyone with physical access to the target device can exploit the flaw, gaining access to the victim user’s Google account data, stored photos, contacts, browser data, and more.

Regarding the exploit, the researcher explained that its severity depends on the Google Maps configuration on the target device.

First, if the user has the Driving Mode disabled on Google Maps, then an adversary may access the device’s recent and favorite locations and contacts, share the location with contacts, or with the attacker’s own email address.

Second, with the Driving Mode enabled, an attacker may further access and meddle with the victim users’ Google account data, potentially performing many other malicious actions.

Patch To Arrive Soon

The researcher reported the vulnerability to Google in May. However, the tech giant hasn’t addressed the matter even after six months (till November). Hence, the researcher went ahead with public disclosure to inform the users of the risks. Nonetheless, Google BugHunters informed the researcher to address the flaw with the February 2024 update.

But for now, no patch exists to secure the vulnerable devices. Therefore, the researcher advised the users to simply uninstall Google Maps from their devices to prevent the exploit until a patch arrives.

Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Instagram now lets you post short, looping video notes

0
[ad_1]

Instagram is adding support for videos to its Notes feature launched a year ago. You can now record and post a short, looping video to your note, Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced via his official channel on the app. Earlier, you could only post text notes.

Instagram adds support for video notes

Instagram debuted Notes at the end of 2022. It was the first text-based feature on the app, which is known as a photo and video-based social media app. Notes appear in your inbox in a horizontal carousel above the chat list. They expire automatically after 24 hours. Only followers you follow back or people in your “Close Friends” list can see the notes you post.

At launch, Instagram only allowed you to post text notes, including emojis, up to 60 characters long. A few months later, it added support for 30-second clips of songs from the app’s music library. The Meta-owned social media app also enabled the translation of notes written in foreign languages. Now, it is letting you be more creative with support for video notes.

You can post a 2-second circular looping video note with a text caption that still has the 60-character limit. The video must be recorded live with the front camera of your phone. You can not upload a video from your gallery or switch to the rear camera. Others will see the looping video in the Notes carousel above their chat list. Tapping on a video note doesn’t make it full screen. Instead, it opens up the reply box.

Speaking of replying to notes, Mosseri revealed that you can now respond to notes using audio, photos, videos, GIFs, and stickers. This is on top of the existing options to reply with a text message or emojis. Replies to notes go through as a direct message. Overall, the Notes feature shares some similarities with Instagram Stories but has its own merits. It serves as a way to initiate conversations on Instagram.

The new feature is rolling out widely

Video notes on Instagram are already rolling out widely. The new feature should be available to you shortly if it hasn’t already. You will see a tiny camera icon next to your profile photo when creating a note. While you shouldn’t need to update the app, keeping the app updated will ensure that you don’t miss out on new features in the future. You can install the latest version of Instagram from the Google Play Store on your Android device.

Huge Best Buy Sale This Weekend

0
[ad_1]

Best Buy has kicked off its latest 3-Day Sale, which will last through this weekend. It’s good timing, too, as we approach the end of the shopping season, with the cut-off for shipping coming up pretty quickly.

The retailer is actually discounting quite a few products to prices that we have not seen since Black Friday and some that are cheaper than they were on Black Friday. So what we’ve done here is rounded up all of the best deals you can get from Best Buy during this 3-Day Sale. These are deals that we’d actually buy ourselves, so you know that they are good.

You can shop Best Buy’s 3-Day Sale and see many more deals.

Quick Links

Samsung 75-inch TU690T 4K TV

6514052 rd

This deal is good on Friday, December 15, 2023 only. It will expire at midnight Central Time.

The Samsung 75-inch TV is a really impressive deal. We’re looking at a 75-inch TV for under $500. That’s not something you see very often. I’ve been covering deals for over ten years, and I can’t say I’ve ever seen a 75-inch TV this cheap or even close to this cheap. And it’s not a bad TV either. This is the TU690T, a 2022 model, so it’s slightly older but still provides an incredible picture. It also has HDR, typically that’s something that we might see missing on a TV at this price point. But it’s here, there’s no Dolby Vision however. Samsung TVs don’t generally have Dolby Vision, as Samsung prefers to support the open-source alternative, HLG.

Apple MacBook Air 13

6509650 sd

The new-ish Apple MacBook Air 13 with the M2 chip inside is currently on sale for $899. That’s going to save you $200 off of its regular price. As someone who used this laptop for a good six months this year, that is an incredible price for an incredible laptop. This is the M2 MacBook Air 13, so it is likely getting replaced soon. But I can confidently say that most people will not notice a discernable difference between the M2 and M3 chips, and the MacBook Air just got a redesign, so it’ll look exactly the same.

TCL 50-inch Q5 Series QLED 5K Google TV

6551173 sd

The Q5 Series from TCL is a cheap but very impressive lineup of TVs. And this one is a $249 50-inch TV, that’s going to be about the best discount you’ll see on a QLED TV right now. This is going to save you $150 off of its regular price. QLED TVs are all the rage these days because they offer a lot of the same benefits as OLED, but at a cheaper price and without the burn-in effects. The Q5 Series does run on Google TV, so you’re getting access to plenty of great apps and games from the Google Play store, including Google Assistant.

Samsung 77-inch S89C OLED 4K TV

The Samsung S89C constantly battles with Samsung’s own S90C OLED TV for the crown of the best OLED TV. And right now, you can save $1,600 on this TV. It’s now down to just $1,999. That is an incredibly price for a 77-inch OLED TV, that’s nearly half off. If you’ve had your eye on a new TV this holiday season, this is the one to buy.
