A recently uncovered CS2 exploit (apparently an XSS vulnerability) has raised concerns within the gaming community, posing a potential threat to player security. This exploit reportedly utilizes HTML code blocks in-game to display GIFs, placing gamers at risk.

The implications extend to a broad spectrum of players, even those less inclined to frequent online play. Initially discovered by players experimenting with their Steam ID, the exploit allowed them to showcase NSFW GIFs to other players through the in-game kick menu.

Notable figures in the gaming community, including Ozzny, a CS2 creator with over 23,000 YouTube subscribers, have confirmed that those exploiting the glitch can access player IP addresses.

With concerns escalating about the exploit’s potential for executing code on gamers’ PCs, Ozzny and other experts strongly advise refraining from CS2 gameplay until the exploit is rectified.

“Apparently, there is a security exploit with Steam names inside CS2, which allows people to change visual stuff inside the game with a simple HTML code linking an image. But this is not it you can also get the IPs of EVERYONE in the server using this method with the assistance of an IP Logger. (Not going to show much or explain how for obvious reasons, but it is very easy),” tweeted Ozzny.

In a Twitch video, Jason Thor Hall, an American cybersecurity researcher and game developer, highlighted the XSS vulnerability, urging gamers to refrain from CS2 until Valve, the developer, addresses the issue.

While the feasibility of code execution remains uncertain, the perceived risk is substantial, prompting a cautious approach. Gamers are strongly encouraged to suspend CS2 play until the exploit is patched, or clearance from Vavle is issued. The is expected to swiftly address the situation, with a fix expected shortly.

As a precautionary measure, users encountering a player with an in-game username resembling an HTML block are advised to exercise caution and avoid interaction. The safety of Steam accounts hinges on this vigilance. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.

If playing becomes unavoidable, it is crucial to remain vigilant against potential dangers, such as refraining from clicking on suspicious links or opening attachments from unknown senders.

How To Send Larger Files Via WhatsApp

WhatsApp has been working around the clock to be a better and more competitive app. Well, it’s one of the most popular messaging apps on the market, but there are some areas it can improve. One area it’s gotten better is the file size limit. For the longest time, the company only let you send files up to 100MB, but it increased it to 2GB in recent history. While that’s great, most businesses tend to send larger files. So, here’s how to send large files via WhatsApp.

The thing is that WhatsApp isn’t only for sending text-based messages. People who use it as a communication hub for their business most likely need to send important documents over the service. Thankfully, if you’ve been shot down by the file limit, there’s a way to work around it.

How to send large files on WhatsApp

Just to clear the air, there’s no native method to send files larger than 2GB over WhatsApp. So, this isn’t a guide to unlock some special hidden feature or hack the app. Sending larger files via WhatsApp will require the use of other apps. There are probably 1,001 ways to send larger files, but we’re going to go over one of the more intuitive methods.

This method is through cloud storage. you’re most likely using some cloud storage platform like Google Drive, iCloud, Microsoft One Drive, etc. These are all very fine methods of sending files. However, for the sake of this article, we’re going to be talking about Google Drive. Many of the users reading this most likely have a Google account; hence, they have access to at least 15GB of Google Drive storage. 

For starters, you’ll need to upload the file to your Google Drive. It doesn’t matter if it’s to your main Google account or an auxiliary account. You just need to make sure you have access and can upload files. Once you upload your file to the account, you’ll need to locate the file and copy the link to it. After you do that, you’ll want to paste that link into the chat. From there, the users will be able to download the file right from the Drive.

Below, we’re going to go through using this method using both your computer and your smartphone. It’s a multi-step process, but it’s super simple once you get the hang of it.

Using Google Drive to share the file

Using Google is probably the most simple and straightforward for most Android users. It’s the default cloud service that comes with your Google account, and it provides you with 15GB of storage for free. If you want access to more storage, we have the different payment tiers listed at the bottom of this piece. They’re worth looking at.

The plans go up exponentially in storage (and in price), but those are definitely for those with a lot of stuff to store. Now, the process of sharing the files differs depending on whether you’re using your phone or your computer.

Using your smartphone

You’re most likely using your phone to handle your WhatsApp messaging. Thus, we’re going to cover the process for phones first. There’s a certain step that you need to do on both mobile and desktop platforms in order for this to work, and that’s managing the access to the file.

When you’re uploading the file via your phone, you can either go to the Google Drive app and tap on the colored “+” button on the bottom. From there, locate your file and upload it. You might want to upload it to a new folder or a location where you can easily find it.

Once it’s uploaded, tap on the three-dot menu on the right side of the file. Now, this is the important step: tap on Manage people and links. You’ll be taken to a page with your profile picture up top. Under that, you’ll see Link settings (or General access) and a Restricted setting right below. Tap on it, tap on the top button that reads “Restricted, Only people added can open”, and select the option that says “Anyone with a link”.

The thing is that, when you upload a file to Google Drive, its access is limited to only people who you added to Google Drive. This means that if you send it right away, other people won’t be able to open or view the file.

Now, with the Anyone with the link setting, other people will be able to open or access the file. Just know that you should keep the link away from people who you don’t trust.

Back out to that screen. The Link settings should say “Anyone with a link”. Tap on the little chain icon on the right of the setting to automatically copy the link. After that, just paste the link into your chat.

Using a computer

If you’re using a computer, the process is just a little bit different. First, go to the Google Drive website (drive.google.com). From there, you can click the “+” button on the top left of the interface and locate the file you want to send. Either that or you can drag and drop the file.

Once your file is uploaded, you’ll then right-click on the file and click on the Share option. When you do that, you’ll see a popup with the options to change the permissions. Clicking on the Restricted button will summon a dropdown menu with the option to change it to Anyone with a link. When you change it, you’ll see the link up top go green. From that point, click the Copy Link button on the right of the link, and you’re ready to paste.

If you’re using Google Drive and plan on storing a lot of large files to send on WhatsApp, then there are some additional storage options out there. If you’re happy with 15GB, then you don’t really have to worry, but that can fill up quickly if you’re not careful. The next tier up is the 100GB for $1.99/month ($19.99/year). For an extra dollar a month, you can double the storage to 200GB for $2.99/month ($29.99/year).

However, what if 100GB and 200GB are rookie numbers? Google’s got you covered with plans that are offer terabytes of storage. The 2TB plan only costs you $9.99/month ($99.99/year). You can also get 5TB for $24.99/month ($249/year).

The remaining payment tiers only have monthly billing. With them, you get 10TB for $49.99/month, 20TB for $99.99/month, or 30TB for $149/month.

US Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Flip 5’s Android 14 update rolling out widely

Samsung continues to update its Galaxy devices to Android 14 and One UI 6.0. The big update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 is now available widely in the US. The company has also released it for the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy M34, and Galaxy M14 5G in international markets.

Samsung started pushing the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US in the third week of November. It was first released for the carrier-locked units on Verizon’s network. The company gradually covered the foldable duo on other networks too. However, users with unlocked units had to wait longer.

The wait has now ended as both models are widely receiving the big update stateside. The new firmware build number for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is F946U1UEU1BWK9 while that for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is F731U1UEU1BWK9. Samsung has bundled the November 2023 security patch with the Android 14 update for the two foldables. It has already released the December patch for a few other models, including the Galaxy S23 series.

The foldable duo may receive this month’s security patch with a separate update in the coming weeks. It contains fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities, at least seven of which are critical issues. While it is an important security update, the latest release brings a plethora of new features and improvements to your Samsung foldable. From new camera features to UI tweaks, there is a lot to look forward to.

Last week, Samsung released the Android 14 update for the Galaxy S21 FE in the US. The new Android version is now available for the phone in international markets. It is rolling out with the build number G990BXXU6FWK3 or G990B2XXU5FWK3 depending on the model variant. The device misses out on the December security patch, with Samsung bundling last month’s security release.

The Galaxy M34 and Galaxy M14 5G are other Samsung phones that recently started receiving the Android 14 update. The former is picking up the update with the build number M346BXXUBWL1. It is M146BXXU2BWK8 for the latter. Both models are getting the November security patch with One UI 6.0. If you are using any of these Samsung Galaxy devices, you can check for updates from the Settings app.

Google Messages may soon allow you to edit sent messages

Google Messages has been receiving a flurry of new features lately, making it more competitive with other famous messaging apps. The latest update includes photomoji, screen effects, noise cancellation for audio messages, and animated stickers. These features are currently available to beta users and will likely be rolled out to everyone soon.
However, even more exciting is the evidence found, courtesy of AssembleDebug from TheSpAndroid, that Google is working on a message editing feature. This feature has been highly requested by users and would be really helpful for fixing of typos or simply making changes to messages after they have been sent.

The evidence found that Google is working on adding a message editing feature is the existence of several new flags to the beta version of the Google Messages app. These flags were added in the beta releases that were released in the last week of November.

Furthermore, while digging into the Google Messages APK code, evidence was found that Google is creating a new table in the messages database to store details of edited messages. This table contains columns for the message ID, latest message ID, original RCS message ID, and timestamps for when the message was edited and received.

Currently, message editing is not a part of the RCS standard. However, Google has added features to RCS before that weren’t part of the standard, such as end-to-end encryption. It’s possible that Google will work to add message editing to the RCS standard in the future.

Apple’s recent decision to add RCS support to its iMessage application next year, could pave the way for more features like message editing to be added to the standard. This would be very convenient and a major win for users who have been waiting for these features for a long time. Currently, Apple does not plan to support Google’s flavor of RCS messaging, but rather the GSMA universal profile which does not include encryption.

Unfortunately, there’s no official word on when the message editing feature will be released to the public, but given that there are already hidden flags in the beta version of the application, this could potentially be a planned addition for a future Pixel Feature Drop. My hope is that we get to see this released in the first quarter of 2024.

The Kelvin Security Hacker Group stands accused of conducting 300 high-profile cyber attacks over the last three years, targeting strategic sectors in 90+ countries.

In an announcement on December 10, 2023, the Spanish National Police in Alicante city revealed the arrest of the alleged leader of the financial arm of ‘Kelvin Security,’ a notorious hacking group.

Identified as a Venezuelan citizen, apparently, under the suspect’s leadership, the Kelvin Security group was involved in over 300 high-profile cyber attacks spanning the last three years, targeting strategic sectors in more than 90 countries.

The group’s modus operandi involved exploiting vulnerabilities in strategic entities to gain access credentials and extract confidential information. Subsequently, they traded this sensitive data on various cybercrime, hacking and dark web forums.

The arrested Venezuelan individual now faces charges including membership in a criminal organization, disclosure of secrets, computer damage, and money laundering. He is believed to be the central figure responsible for laundering funds obtained through the group’s illicit activities, primarily utilizing cryptocurrency exchanges.

The investigation initiated two years ago, originated from sophisticated cyber attacks on the computer systems of Spanish municipalities Getafe and Camas. Cyber investigation experts traced these attacks back to the cybercrime forums operated by the ‘Kelvin Security group on the dark web.

Exploiting vulnerabilities in websites, software, and information storage services, the group systematically extracted sensitive data from institutions and entities in strategic sectors globally. Their latest known attack occurred in November 2023, when they exfiltrated a database containing confidential information of over 85,000 customers from an energy company.

The apprehension of the suspected leader of the Kelvin Security hacker group underscores the determination of cybercriminals to conceal their tracks, yet authorities consistently stay one step ahead.

OnePlus 12R camera specifications leaked ahead of launch

OnePlus launched its latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 12, in China earlier this month. It is set to debut in the global markets next month alongside other products. These are expected to include the OnePlus 12R, OnePlus Buds 3, and OnePlus Watch. Now, the OnePlus 12R’s camera specifications have been leaked ahead of launch. The upcoming budget flagship will arrive as a rebadged version of the China-limited OnePlus Ace 3.

As per tipster Yogesh Brar, the OnePlus 12R will have a triple rear camera package. The setup will comprise of a 50MP 1/1.56-inch Sony IMX890 primary sensor with f/1.8 and 24mm focal length. It will also support OIS.

There will be an 8MP Sony IMX355 ultra-wide-angle with 16mm focal length and 112-degree field of view. The telephoto lens will utilize a 32MP Sony IMX709 sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 2x optical zoom. The smartphone is said to be capable of recording up to 4K videos at 60fps.

Going by the new leak, it looks like the OnePlus 12R will retain the same primary and ultra-wide cameras as its predecessor. The third unit will be a telephoto lens compared to a 2MP macro on the OnePlus 11R.

The OnePlus 12R has already been spotted in leaked renders previously revealing a slightly curved display with a center-aligned punch-hole cutout and a half-pill-shaped island housing a circular module that stretches from the side frame. Additionally, a recent leak revealed that the upcoming offering will feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K BOE X1 display panel.

It will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and be powered by a 5,500mAh battery unit (which is 500mAh larger than its predecessor) with support for 100W fast charging. The leaked specifications put it almost on par with the OnePlus 11 (review) apart from a few differences.

The OnePlus 12 is very much expected to launch in the global markets on January 23 if the recent confirmation from the company’s executive and the previously leaked marketing material is anything to go by.

Be aware that the slow-cooking settings are pretty lacking on the Instant Electric Dutch Oven. This one really only has one slow-cook setting. So you’re stuck with it cooking at around 203 degrees. But there is a fix for this, or really a workaround. You can use the Manual mode to set the slow cooker at a “high” setting.

What exactly is a Dutch Oven?

If you’re like me and didn’t know what a Dutch Oven really was before, well, let’s do a quick explainer. A Dutch Oven is a heavy, wide, and fairly shallow pot that has a tight-fitting lid. Most people will think of this as an enameled cast iron casserole pot with two handles and a lid. Or was that just me?

A Dutch Oven needs to be heavy so that it can maintain a constant temperature either in the oven or on the stove for a long time. The tight-fitting lid helps to keep the heat inside the pot so your food cooks as it should.

Once you’ve used a Dutch Oven, you won’t want to go back. I picked up a different Electric Dutch Oven back on Black Friday, and I absolutely love it. It was slightly cheaper than Instant’s version here. However, it is already sold out.

You can use a Dutch Oven for a number of things. Typically meals that you need to cook for a long time. These are also great for searing all types of food since they are typically made out of cast iron and can remain scorching hot for quite some time.

It is called a Dutch Oven because of an old story that talks about an English man visiting the Netherlands and seeing a round, fairly shallow pot being made by casting molten iron in molds made from sand. So that’s why the material is called cast iron, and the Dutch part of it came from where the man first saw these pots.

Why you should buy a Dutch Oven and an Instant Pot

Having an Instant Pot and a Dutch Oven in your kitchen is a really good idea. Both of these appliances can do all sorts of things differently. An Instant Pot is great for making rice, yogurt, and so much more.

But it really falls short as a slow cooker. The reason for this is that the Instant Pot only heats up the bottom and not the sides. A slow cooker or Crock Pot will instead heat up the sides and the bottom to slow cook your food. This means that the food will be cooked more evenly without the food sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Of course, getting both will really depend on your kitchen and what you cook. But having both is a really good idea. I used both quite often, and wouldn’t trade them for anything else in the world.

Galaxy Note 20 & A52 grab Samsung’s December update in the US

Samsung‘s December security update is available for more Galaxy devices in the US. The company is pushing the latest security patch to the Galaxy Note 20 series and Galaxy A52 stateside. The Galaxy S23 series, which started picking up the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) last week, is now getting the update widely across the nation.

A few days back, Samsung released the December security update for the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in Latin America. Both 4G and 5G versions of the last Note-branded phones received the update. The company is now pushing the latest SMR to the 5G versions of the duo in the US (4G versions weren’t sold stateside). The new firmware build number for unlocked units is N98*U1UES6HWK1.

Samsung will soon release the December SMR for the carrier-locked variants of the 2020 S Pen-wielding flagships. The build number may vary but the changelog should remain the same. After all, the update doesn’t bring anything more than this month’s security fixes. “The security of your device has been improved,” Samsung’s official changelog states. The Galaxy Note 20 isn’t eligible for Android 14.

While there may be no new features or improvements to look forward to, the latest security patch for Galaxy devices is fairly large. Samsung is pushing fixes for more than 60 vulnerabilities, including seven critical and 40-odd high-severity security flaws in the Android OS, two Samsung Semiconductor issues, and over a dozen Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities.

All of these security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy A52 in the US. The carrier-locked units are receiving the update with the build number A526USQSCEWK3. Samsung should soon push it to unlocked units too. The mid-range phone started picking up the December SMR in global markets last week. The device is eligible for Android 14 and may receive the big update later this month or in early 2024.

The latest security patch is widely available for the Galaxy S23 series

The Galaxy S23 series was the first to receive Samsung’s December security update. The rollout began last week for the carrier-locked variants in the US. While international versions are yet to receive the new SMR, the company is now pushing it to the unlocked units stateside. The update comes with the build number S911U1UES2BWKA and doesn’t bring anything more than the latest security fixes. The flagship lineup recently picked up Android 14 and One UI 6.0 with tons of new features.

Today, a post from X user Shruti Mishra outlines these courses. The post says that you’ll be able to master these courses in only 12 days. There are 11 short courses in all, and they’re all pretty short; the first one is only 22 minutes long. You can take them at any point and even finish all of them in one day.

The courses will go through the fundamentals of generative AI and teach you about many of the finer bits of the technology. You never know if you’ll discover your passion for AI.

Since generative AI is an extremely intricate and complicated subject, you shouldn’t expect to become an expert in just under two weeks. This is a microlearning experience only to give you the fundamentals on AI. Basically, don’t start filling out a job application to Google DeepMind after taking the courses. However, if you just want to know more about AI and what makes it tick, these courses are for you.

The Fairphone 5 achieves a perfect 10 for repairability from iFixit

Fairphone’s Android handsets are known for their sustainability and repairability, and it’s no different with the latest model. The Fairphone 5, which debuted in August this year, achieved a perfect ten in the iFixit repairability score. It is the fourth straight model to receive a 10/10 in the firm’s repairability evaluation.

The Fairphone 2 was the first-ever phone to achieve a perfect ten for repairability from iFixit. The company has since reiterated this winning formula of “modularity paired with easy access to all major components” for each new generation. The latest model keeps the same core design with some minor “quality of life improvements” that fixers would love.

The plastic back cover still comes off fairly easily as Fairphone doesn’t glue it in place. You just have to unclip it and you are already in. However, the company has redesigned the cover and increased the thickness of the nano coating for an IP55 rating for dust and water resistance. The Fairphone 4 has an IP54 rating, so the new model has better protection against water.

On the inside, we have a larger battery (4200mAh instead of 3905mAh) that takes up more space than before but is still easily removable. The first quality-of-life improvement is seen on the connector cover of the top module. Fairphone has attached it to the module itself rather than keeping it separate. This ensures that the small plastic piece doesn’t get lost or misplaced during the repair.

Elsewhere, replacing the USB Type-C charging port of the Fairphone 5 is easier thanks to the company using a small metal lid. “No more prodding using a small cutout,” iFixit noted. The new phone also switches to a motherboard and daughterboard design instead of a single board that snakes around the casing. Fairphone made this change to make room for the bigger battery.

The company has color-coded the cables connecting the two boards and added stickers to denote the correct place for each cable. “That’s what intuitive repair design is all about,” iFixit says. “It should be easy to do the right thing and complicated to do the wrong thing.” Replacing other components such as the cameras is fairly straightforward too. Like before, you can replace each camera individually.

The longevity of Fairphone devices complements their repairability

Fairphone phones aren’t all about repairability. The aim is to make sustainable devices that can run for years with an easily repairable design. The Fairphone 2 received updates for seven years after launch, something no other Android maker has done yet. For the Fairphone 5, the company has promised 8-10 years of support, including five major Android OS upgrades.

Hopefully, its Qualcomm QCM6490 processor can handle Android and its apps five years from now. The chip is purpose-built for industrial and commercial IoT applications and comes with longer support than Qualcomm’s standard smartphone SoCs. The Fairphone 5 is available in Europe but there is no word yet from the company for a US release. The previous-gen model arrived in the US nearly two years after its European debut.
