However, this update also expands the Google Drive scanner and title suggestion features to iOS, empowering iPhone and iPad users to effortlessly scan and manage physical documents. The update is being progressively rolled out to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts, without any admin control needed. Note, though, that title suggestions are only available in the U.S.

On both Android and iOS, the steps to use the new Google Drive scanner are similar: Simply open the Drive app, and scan a document using the camera icon or the “Scan” button under the “+” icon. Once scanned, check and adjust the automatic cropping, scan any necessary additional pages, apply any desired filters, and then save to Drive.
The revamped Google Drive scanner feature marks a significant advancement in document scanning and organization and echoes the updates that Google has recently done within the Messages app using the Pixel Camera. The enhanced capabilities and expanded availability across Android and iOS devices make it easier than ever for users to manage their physical documents digitally.

Fossil smartwatch users who own a Gen 6 model should already have an update to Wear OS 3.5, or expect it to pop up soon. The company began sending out the update as early as last week and has continued to roll it out to more watches leading up to now. What’s interesting is that this isn’t an update to Wear OS 4 instead. Although maybe this shouldn’t be too surprising. Given Fossil rolled out Wear OS 3 to its Gen 6 watches in late 2022 instead of Wear OS 3.5. Which was already available.

That being said there’s no confirmation from Fossil on when or if the Gen 6 devices will get Wear OS 4. Google did note that there were some hardware-related requirements for the software. Which the Gen 6 devices should meet. But if Fossil’s track record for later rollouts is anything to go by, there’s a chance Wear OS 4 may not be coming till much later. If at all.

Fossil Wear OS 3.5 update gets put on pause

The pause should already be lifted according to 9To5Google. Which states that it looks like the update rollout has seemingly resumed. But it’s worth mentioning the pause anyway. Because the pause was issued in the first place due to people having problems with the installation.

The reason is because users were reporting issues with the software after having updated their watches. Including the time it was taking to install the update and issues with battery life. Some users even report having been locked in a boot loop. Fossil acknowledged these issues in responses and confirmed a pause for the rollout. But now it looks like the rollout has started back up. So if you haven’t received the software yet, check your watch again to see. As the update may be available to download.

Wear OS 3.5 is an incremental update

While the update rolling out is definitely a good thing, users shouldn’t expect anything major. As Wear OS 3.5 is just a minor update over Wear OS 3 which the Fossil Gen 6 watches already have. But it does appear to have made some small improvements to performance. Which is a good thing any way you slice it.

Not that the performance on the Gen 6 watches was bad by any stretch. But it certainly doesn’t hurt if it’s made better. Which this update seems to have done.

The notorious Atomic malware – a known macOS stealer – again targets Mac devices. In the recent “ClearFake” campaigns, the malware reaches the victim system via fake browser updates.

Atomic Mac Stealer Runs New Malicious Campaigns

Researchers from Malwarebytes have shed light on a new malware campaign targeting Mac devices. Identified as “ClearFake,” the campaign typically utilizes social engineering to trick victim users into downloading the malware. The threat actors behind this campaign have ensured precise designing of the attack, as evident from the campaign’s successful attacks for the past few months.

As explained, ClearFake first caught the attention of the researcher Randy McEoin in August this year, when the campaign actively targeted various websites to lure victims into downloading fake browser updates.

Since then, the campaign exhibited numerous upgrades to include various functionalities. It even exploited Binance Smart Chain contracts to distribute the payload to Windows systems sneakily. Guardio Labs dubbed this technique “EtherHiding” in their post elaborating on the attack.

Now, the campaign aims at Mac devices to deliver the Atomic stealer malware, as the researcher Ankit Anubhav highlighted.

Atomic macOS Stealer, aka AMOS, is a potent malware with data-stealing capabilities. It can steal various types of information from the target systems, ranging from stored passwords to crypto wallets. When discovered, the malware targeted Mac systems via malicious Telegram channels. And now, the ClearFake campaign preys on Mac users via fake Safari browser updates. Upon reaching the target devices, the malware extracts sensitive information, including crypto wallets, passwords, documents, and keys.

Malwarebytes has shared the detailed technical analysis of this campaign in their post. They also urge Mac users to improve their devices’ security with appropriate anti-malware solutions and web protection tools and implement cybersecurity best practices to avoid becoming a victim of tricky social engineering attacks such as the ClearFake.

When you open the Google Search app, you’re used to seeing the search bar on the top of the UI. Under that, you’ll see all of your results and recommendations. This has worked for years, but it seems that the company wants to make a change. According to a new report, Google could bring a bottom search bar to the Search app.

At this point, the company is only testing it out. We’re not sure if the company is going to release this change to the public or if it’s going to shelf it. So, you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt.

Google could bring a bottom search bar

The company has been changing the interface of a bunch of its apps lately, so this should come as no surprise. The Google Search app is the app version of the Google website. Since its inception, the app had a search bar pinned to the top of the screen.

However, according to Assembledebug on X, the company is testing a bottom-mounted search bar. The post shows a screenshot of the app with the search bar pinned right above the bottom bar. It looks a bit odd, to be honest, but it might be a good thing. Smartphone screens aren’t getting any smaller. Reaching to the top of the screen is (and has been for a while) a chore. This will make reaching the search bar easier.

That might not be the only reason, however. Google has been flirting with moving all of the navigation in the Chrome app to the bottom of the screen. This might be part of that experiment. Bottom navigation is something that we’ve seen with other mobile browsers such as Firefox Mobile, Brave, and more. So there’s no doubt that Google is looking to make a change.

At this point, we don’t know if the company is going to go through with this. Only time will tell.

Samsung is rolling out the November security update to the Galaxy S20 FE in the US. The latest security patch is also now available for factory-unlocked variants of the Galaxy S21 FE. Both phones have already received the update widely in international markets.

The Galaxy S20 FE gets the November security update in the US

The Galaxy S20 FE debuted in late 2020 running Android 10 out of the box. Over the past three years, Samsung has pushed Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13 updates to the phone. Unfortunately, that is all it will ever get. Android 14 will never reach the FE model. However, security updates will come for at least another year.

A few days back, Samsung rolled out the November SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the Galaxy S20 FE in international markets. The US version of the phone is now picking up the latest security patch. The update is available for carrier-locked units with the firmware build number G781USQSDHWK1. Unlocked units should get it soon.

This update only brings the latest security fixes to the phone. Samsung isn’t pushing anything more. The November SMR contains fixes for 65 security issues. These include Android OS patches and Galaxy-specific patches. At least five of those are critical vulnerabilities, potentially allowing an attacker to gain remote access to an affected phone.

If you are using a Galaxy S20 FE in the US, watch out for an update with these security fixes in the coming days. You will receive a notification prompting you to download the update over the air (OTA). You can also manually check for OTA updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap on Download and Install.

The new security patch is widely available for the Galaxy S21 FE

The Galaxy S21 FE is eligible for Android 14 but has yet to pick up the new Android version. In the meantime, Samsung has released the November security patch for the phone. Earlier this month, the latest security update was rolled out to the international versions of the device, followed by carrier-locked units in the US. The unlocked counterparts are now joining the party.

The November SMR for factory-unlocked Galaxy S21 FE is rolling out with firmware version G990U1UES9EWK1. The update will be available nationwide within the next few days. Samsung is expected to push Android 14 to the phone in the coming weeks. We will let you know when the update is released in the US.

It will reportedly reach one million units in 2024 and a staggering 10 million units by 2026. Reaching a 10 million sales figure within just three years of launch with a product that costs $3,499 should be really impressive.

However, industry experts, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, express skepticism about these ambitious targets. Kuo suggests that for a more affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro to succeed, substantial price reductions would be necessary, and even then, the successor might not enter mass production until 2027.

The report shared by Revegnus sheds light on the cost structure of the Apple Vision Pro. It details that the total cost of components and manufacturing for the headset amounts to $1,700. This revelation helps explain the premium price tag of $3,499, excluding additional expenses for prescription lenses and other optional add-ons. Luxshare, a Chinese company, is  Apple’s exclusive assembling partner for the Vision Pro, contributing to 60% of the headset’s components reports Jirmain (via Wccftech).

A low-cost version of the Vision Pro under development?

Despite the optimistic outlook, industry analysts raise concerns about the feasibility of such high shipment numbers. Additionally, there are reports of a more affordable version of the Apple Vision Pro launching in 2025. Analysts expect this budget-friendly variant to compromise on the chip and display. It will potentially use an iPhone chip instead of a Mac-grade one and a comparatively inferior-quality panel.

Amid the hack, the Ukrainian agency claims that as per the documents, Russia’s aviation is collapsing given the international sanctions imposed on the country after its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

It is rare for nations to admit hacking or surveilling activities against other nations. However, in a rather unexpected act, the Ukrainian government has admitted to carrying out an offensive cyber operation against Russia.

In a press release, Ukraine’s intelligence agency referred to the hacking as a “successful complex special operation in cyberspace.” 

According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense, through this operation, they obtained a vast trove of classified documents from Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsiya.

For your information, Rosaviatsiya manages flight safety and is responsible for maintaining Russian aviation’s emergency incidents records. The Ukrainian defence ministry claims that it infiltrated Rosaviatsiya’s information systems and repeatedly accessed its daily reports for over a year and a half.

The Ukrainian agency claims that as per the documents, Russia’s aviation is collapsing given the international sanctions imposed on the country after its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Some of the documents state that in January 2023, around 185 incidents were reported in Russian civil aviation and one-third of them were declared dangerous.

In the first nine months of 2023, 150 aircraft malfunctioning cases were recorded compared to 50 incidents during the same period in 2022. This indicates the intensity of safety hazards Russian aviation has been recording lately as the number has tripled, claimed the agency.

That’s not all. Russia is also experiencing issues with aircraft maintenance because spare parts are hard to outsource due to sanctions. Now the country is redirecting aircraft maintenance to Iran where such works are carried out without appropriate certification. This shortage of aircraft space parts has created “aviation cannibalism,” in Russia, which means it is dismantling aircraft to repair others.

“Moscow is trying to hide the endless pile of problems with civil aviation, endangering its residents,” Ukrainian sources concluded.

When the hacking was conducted is still unclear. Rosaviatsia is yet to respond to the revelations. It is worth noting that this is the first time that Ukraine has admitted to conducting a cyber operation against a Russian target.

It is unusual for states to proudly publicize their digital attacks against their adversaries, in Ukraine’s case it is understandable. This breach is a significant blow to Russia’s aviation industry and raises concerns about its civilian airspace’s security. The stolen documents can expose vulnerabilities in the country’s air traffic control systems and offer valuable information to Ukraine.

The hacking’s timing is crucial since it comes at a time when tensions between Russia and Ukraine are at their peak.

TikTok parent, Bytedance’s gaming division Nuverse, has reportedly started layoffs. According to a Reuters report, the China-based company began mass layoffs on Monday. However, the exact number of people who were fired remains under wraps. Nonetheless, some individuals familiar with the matter told Reuters (via The Verge) that it is likely to impact hundreds of employees. The mass layoffs began on Monday, with the company’s restructuring efforts likely completed over the weekend. The report adds that employees were instructed to stop working on unreleased titles by December.

Bytedance’s gaming division, Nuverse, comes to a halt

“We regularly review our businesses and make adjustments to center on long-term strategic growth areas. Following a recent review, we’ve made the difficult decision to restructure our gaming business,” Nuverse told Reuters.

Bytedance set up Nuverse as a gaming division in 2019, focusing on developing mobile and web games, including the popular Marvel Snap. Interest in gaming grew as China became a gaming major after the success of publishers such as Tencent and NetEase. However, Bytedance’s gaming endeavor comes to a halt with reports suggesting that it has no plans to return to the global market.

The published games will continue to stay

TikTok-owner Bytedance plans to continue running certain games like “Crystal of Atlan” and “Earth: Revival” while seeking new companies to take over these games. This ensures that players can continue enjoying these games in the long run. It includes Marvel Snap as well. Bloomberg reported that Bytedance is considering selling Shanghai Moonton Technology. Notably, it had acquired it for $4 billion in 2021.

All of this hints that the company’s focus has shifted. It aims to concentrate more on apps like TikTok and online shopping, contemplating the sale of some gaming companies and retaining those with new and exciting ideas. Bytedance’s intentions regarding its video game operations remain unclear, with the possibility of a complete cessation or a regular company restructuring remaining open.
