Why Database Security Still a Major Challenge for Businesses?

0
[ad_1]

Database security is difficult because of the large volume of attacks, zero-day exploits, human errors, and the need for continual management of security tools.

On October 12, Japanese electronics maker Casio was the victim of a data breach. A bad actor obtained files containing sensitive information from 91,921 customers in Japan and 35,049 users from 148 other countries from which the company operates.

The compromised database belonged to a company’s educational platform known as ClassPad. Therefore, those affected were both individuals and educational institutions.

Some of the files that hackers stole amid the breach contained sensitive information such as names, email addresses, payment methods, purchase information, and regions of residence.

Cybercriminals were able to breach the company due to the weakness in its database, later discovered within the development environment.

The company is currently investigating the attack, strengthening the security of its databases, and dealing with the aftermath of the breach.

For Casio, this marks the second major data breach of this year. In August 2023, the hacker dubbed Thrax stole and leaked 1.2 million pieces of customer data. Casio’s data breach is one of many that happened this year.

The truth is, any company can be the victim of a data breach — regardless of its IT resources, size, or whether it already has been the victim of an attack. Nothing makes a business 100% immune to potential data compromise.

Aware of the possible reputational and financial consequences of a data breach, businesses already invest a lot in security to protect one of their most important assets — data. However, the number of compromised databases remains high. Why is database security still a major struggle for companies nowadays?

Human Errors at the Heart of Most Attacks

To compromise the database as it happened to Casio, the hacker needs to gain initial access. In their case, the mistake happened due to operational errors within the development environment.

That oversight allowed hackers to get into the database of the educational platform.

For most companies, the culprit of a data breach is a human mistake. It’s estimated that 95% of data breaches can be attributed to it. That is, nine out of ten data breaches happen because of human error.

Some common ways database breaches result from human errors are:

  • Poor password practices — weak and reused credentials or password sharing
  • Deleting or corrupting the records — by accident
  • Falling for phishing schemes — clicking on the link or sending credentials to the threat actor

General workforce and phishing schemes are usually highlighted when the topic of human errors and data breaches is discussed. However, anyone can make a mistake, from developers and security experts to those working in finance or marketing.

Large Volumes of Cyber Attacks that Compromise Data

Over the last couple of years, businesses have been up against more data breach attempts than ever before. As mentioned, Casio had been the victim of two major data breaches within the last couple of months alone.

With a larger volume of cyberattacks that attempt to compromise data, there is a higher chance that a human mistake will result in stolen data. And that vulnerability that hasn’t yet been discovered by the company will be exploited in the attack.

We’ve already read about a lot of data breaches in the news. But keep in mind that these are only the highlights.  Many hacking incidents and data compromises go unreported.

Not every company in every sector and every country has to disclose a breach. It depends on its severity and whether they have to notify the users that their personal data has been exposed in the breach.

Since not all companies disclose a breach, their users can be at greater risk of being a victim of further data theft, phishing attempts, and even identity fraud.

Data Protection Seeks Continual Management

As with any other cybersecurity system, database security processes and tools have to be continually managed and improved. This is another major factor that makes data security challenging for companies — where should they even start?

For example, this could mean a company has to continually update access to protect the databases of a business.

Suppose an employee changes their role within the company or is no longer a part of the team. Their user access has to be revoked or changed to fit the new role as soon as possible.

Then, there are flaws within the software environment. Companies need to patch them up regularly to prevent databases from being accidentally exposed in an attack.

In Casio’s case, the network security settings within the development area have been disabled. This weakness, discovered too late, opened the doors to hackers.

Shortage of IT Professionals

Another factor that makes database security challenging is the lack of professionals within IT and cybersecurity who specialize in data security and cybersecurity. They regularly manage the security and keep the hacker far away from the databases.

Companies that have fewer professionals are at a heightened risk of errors because those who do stay in the company have to take up large workloads. There is also more pressure and stress within understaffed and overworked IT departments.

True, in this year, there has been a surge of layoffs within the tech industry. However, IT workers also leave their jobs due to stressful environments, insufficient compensation, and lack of opportunities to grow and develop within their roles.

Database Security Is a Work in Progress

One vulnerability within the database is enough for the hacker to compromise the data of hundreds or even billions of sensitive user records.

The severity of financial as well as reputational damage depends on the flaw that a hacker could have exploited and how skilled is the threat actor.

While there is no one ultimate solution for reducing the chance of a data breach to zero, what most companies can do is prioritize the protection of sensitive databases.

Also, they should continually strengthen database security — and seek vulnerabilities that could lead to data breaches, such as those that affected Casio this year.

  1. Casio China Hacked, 150,000 user accounts leaked
  2. Casio Electronics Taiwan Website Hacked by SaMuRai Hacker

US Galaxy S21 and Note 20 get Samsung’s November update

0
[ad_1]

Samsung is on a roll today. First, it released the November security patch to the past three generations of Fold-series foldables in international markets. The Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy Note 10 Lite were also added to the mix. It is now rolling out the new security update to the Galaxy S21 series, including the Galaxy S21 FE, and the Galaxy Note 20 series in the US.

Galaxy S21 and Galaxy Note 20 get the November update in the US

As of this writing, Samsung’s November SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is available for carrier-locked Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra in the US. The update comes with the firmware build number G99*USQS9EWK1 and, expectedly, doesn’t bring anything more than the latest security fixes. With the Android 14 and ONe UI 6.0 update just around the corner, it’s no surprise that Samsung isn’t pushing any other goodies.

It’s the same story for the Galaxy S21 FE as well. The rollout has begun for carrier-locked units with the firmware version G990USQS9EWK1 in tow. This update should soon reach the unlocked variants of all four Galaxy S21 models in the US. The phones have already received this month’s security patch in international markets. For the regular flagships, the new build number is G99*BXXS9EWJO. It is G990EXXS7EWK1 for the FE model (via SamMobile).

The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, meanwhile, are completely new to the scene. And it’s a global rollout at once for the last Note phones. In the US, Samsung is pushing the November update to both carrier-locked and unlocked units, with build numbers N98*USQS5HWJ4 and N98*U1UES5HWJ4, respectively. In international markets, it is N98*BXXS8HWK1 (may vary in some regions).

The Note phones won’t get Android 14

As the build number suggests, this update for the Galaxy Note 20 duo is all about the latest security fixes (“S” as the sixth character from last indicates a security patch). However, that isn’t because Samsung is keeping new features for Android 14. The two Note phones won’t get the new Android version. They debuted with Android 10 and are only eligible for updates up to Android 13.

The Galaxy S21 series, meanwhile, will get Android 14 with One UI 6.0 on top. Samsung may begin the rollout later this month or in early December. It’s expected to update all eligible flagship models to One UI 6.0 before the end of the year. If you’re using one, keep checking for the big update. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check. You can also stay tuned to stay informed.

Best phone stand: LISEN Cell Phone Stand

LISEN Cell Phone Stand

It’s perfect for just about any situation where you need to look at your phone from different angles.

This phone stand can fit devices of different sizes from your phone to your tablet. It’s balanced enough to hold a device that’s as heavy as your tablet, so you don’t have to worry about that. It has a heavy weighted base to keep it from tipping over if you put a lot of devices in the cradle. Also, the weighted base means that you can still use this stand even if it’s not placed on a completely flat surface. The stand will do a great job of keeping it upright.

You can adjust the height of this phone stand.  The height can be adjusted between 7.1 inches and 8.51 inches. This comes in handy if you need a little bit more height when you’re watching your content. Also, this gives it a wide range of motion so that it can properly adapt to your viewing needs. So, if you have to place it on a desk, table, the floor, or anywhere else, you know that you will be able to.

The bottom of the stand has a non-slip grip, so you’ll be able to place it on a Surface at a bit of an angle, and it won’t slip off. This is good news to hear, as you don’t want your stand slipping off with your device. This is a great all-around and useful stand, and it’s well worth the money.

These earbuds give you the best value for your money

Samsung is a company known for making premium devices, but it also has its FE line of affordable devices. The company recently launched its affordable Galaxy Buds FE, and I personally reviewed these devices. They received 5 out of 5 stars in my review because they’re pretty much amazing in every way.

Starting off, these earbuds have amazing audio quality. Pretty much any genre I listened to from classical to 2000s pop sounded amazing. Everything was punchy with a ton of depth. Also, Samsung didn’t ignore the higher tones in the music. It was able to properly showcase these sounds and deliver a well-balanced experience.

Moving on to noise cancellation, these earbuds have some of the best noise cancellation of any earbuds I ever reviewed-  probably the best. A Silent Threat to Digital Enterprises

0
[ad_1]

While domain squatting opens the door to brand hijacking, it also exposes unsuspecting users and businesses to critical cybersecurity threats including phishing and malware attacks.

Domain squatting, often known as cybersquatting, involves the registration or use of a domain name to profit from a trademark belonging to someone else. For instance, a squatter might register a misspelt version of a well-known brand’s URL to misdirect their traffic – For instance, It is Google.com, not ɢoogle.com.

Similarly, brand hijacking is a form of online piracy in which an entity masquerades as a reputable brand to deceive its audience, damaging brand credibility and customer trust. According to Mimecast’s 2022 report on email security, 46% of the businesses it surveyed reported a rise in online brand spoofing and impersonation, with an average of ten incidents in 2021.

In this article, we’ll dissect these digital threats and explore strategies businesses can adopt to combat domain squatting and brand hijacking, safeguarding their online reputation.

Understanding Domain Squatting and Brand Hijacking

Domain squatting entails registering or buying domain names that are strikingly similar to a popular brand, intending to profit from their trademark. The squatter can create a website that visually mimics the legitimate brand’s site or can simply sit on the domain, hoping to sell it back to the rightful owner for a hefty price.

On the other hand, brand hijacking is a more deceptive practice. It involves the impersonation of a legitimate brand online to dupe users into believing they are interacting with a genuine brand. This could include creating cloned websites, leveraging phishing emails, or even exploiting social media.

Interestingly, these two practices often intersect. A domain squatter might employ brand hijacking by creating a spoofed website on the squatted domain. This synergistic exploitation escalates the damage, with the potential to tarnish the brand’s image, manipulate its customers, and eventually damage its revenue.

The Impact of Domain Squatting and Brand Hijacking on Businesses

The repercussions of domain squatting and brand hijacking are far-reaching and deeply damaging for businesses. Domain squatting diverts potential customers to counterfeit sites, causing a significant loss of business.

Moreover, it can inflict severe damage to a brand’s reputation as customers often struggle to differentiate between the authentic website and the squatted domain. Companies are forced to spend extensively on damage control and may also experience a drop in their SEO ranking due to the diluted web traffic.

Brand hijacking is an even greater threat, causing not only an immediate loss of customer trust but also a significant revenue dip. The legal costs associated with fighting these digital imposters can be hefty. Additionally, such attacks may lead to data theft and security breaches, increasing the potential financial burden.

These fraudulent practices can cause severe brand dilution, leading to loss of trust, which is critical for brand loyalty and growth. As Amber Johanson, Mimecast’s SVP of Global Sales Engineering, stated in an interview, “While it can take years to build strong levels of trust among your customer base, that connection can be destroyed in a matter of seconds by a single spoofed email.”

Fighting Against Domain Squatting and Brand Hijacking

Here are some strategies and preventive measures that businesses can rely on to prevent or limit the damage caused by these attacks:

Domain Authority, or DA, is a predictive measure by Moz that suggests a website’s likelihood of ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs). It takes into account several factors such as website age, and the quality and quantity of inbound and outbound links.

On the other hand, a backlink profile is a comprehensive catalogue of all the sites that direct web traffic back to your website, essentially serving as an indicator of your website’s credibility and influence.

Keeping an eye on these key factors is crucial, as any unanticipated shifts in DA or an upsurge of low-quality or unrelated backlinks could be warning signs of an imminent brand hijacking.

Moz, a well-known SEO tool, provides in-depth tools that enable businesses to scrutinize these vital metrics meticulously. By offering features such as DA measurement and comprehensive backlink analysis, Moz equips businesses with the necessary insights to constantly monitor the well-being of their websites.

Source: Moz

This enables quick identification and rectification of any aberrations brought on by possible hijacking or squatting attempts, thereby preserving the integrity of the brand’s online presence.

2. Getting Digitally Certified

Digital certification or authentication is the process of validating the legitimacy of your brand’s online assets. In an era where mimicry is increasingly rampant, having verified digital credentials can help distinguish your brand from counterfeit replicas, instilling a sense of trust among your customers.

In the context of domain squatting and brand hijacking, getting digitally certified can serve as a proactive security measure. It equips your brand with an authenticated digital identity, which is not only difficult for hijackers to replicate but also easy for your customers to recognize.

Memcyco, a real-time website impersonation platform, offers brand protection solutions for businesses to protect themselves from impersonation attacks. Their suite of offerings includes real-time monitoring and alerting against website impersonation attempts, and warnings for customers when they unknowingly access fraudulent versions of a brand’s website.

Source: Memcyco

When it comes to digital authentication, Memcyco provides a digital watermark that reassures visitors of the site’s genuineness, fostering trust and safety.

By investing in such preventive measures, your brand can keep a step ahead of fraudsters, fortifying its digital presence against the threats of hijacking and squatting.

3. Brand Monitoring

Brand monitoring, in essence, is the continuous surveillance of your brand’s online presence to identify and respond to unauthorized brand mentions, feedback, and possible threats. This involves tracking social media interactions, online reviews, blog posts, and various other digital touchpoints to gain insights into your brand’s image.

This process helps you promptly identify unauthorized uses of your brand name or logo, counterfeit websites, or illegitimate advertisements. Doing so, enables you to respond swiftly and potentially prevent these impersonation attempts from causing significant damage to your reputation or customer trust.

4. Educating Your Audience

In the battle against domain squatting and brand hijacking, consumer education can be your most potent weapon. By educating your customers to distinguish between, or to even be aware of, your authentic digital assets and fraudulent replicas, you can significantly reduce the efficacy of such cyber attacks.

Document360, a knowledge base management software, allows you to create and manage a custom knowledge base where you can share essential information about your brand and provide educational content on how to identify and report potential fraud attempts.

Source: Document360

It supports a variety of formats, including FAQs, tutorials, and guides, providing an interactive platform for your audience to learn and stay updated. This proactive step can significantly help in maintaining your brand’s integrity and customer trust.

5. Developing a Robust PR Strategy

The significance of a well-planned public relations (PR) strategy can’t be understated when it comes to fortifying your brand identity and fostering trust among your audience. It allows you to maintain a consistent brand narrative and showcase your brand’s values, which in turn builds credibility and rapport with your audience.

An effective PR strategy consistently communicates your brand’s true message and spreads awareness about the precautions taken to safeguard customer information, keeping your audience informed and alert. This can substantially reduce the chances of them falling prey to fraudulent attempts that impersonate your brand.

Understanding and staying up-to-date with applicable laws is an effective strategy to combat domain squatting and brand hijacking. One such key legislation is the U.S. Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA) from 1999. This law grants rights to trademark owners, enabling them to bring a lawsuit in federal court against parties who maliciously register or use a domain name mirroring their brand.

Essentially, ACPA addresses those bad actors who exploit trademarks with a calculated intention to profit through registering, using, or trading domain names that could be mistaken for established or well-known brands.

Wrapping up

The menace of domain squatting and brand hijacking significantly undermines the stability of businesses by attacking their brand reputation and customer confidence. The first line of defence lies in comprehending the intricacies of these unscrupulous practices and their subsequent effects.

By integrating the above-mentioned measures into your cybersecurity strategy, you can secure your digital assets and decisively counter the stealthy peril of domain squatting and brand hijacking.

Black Friday 2023 Tablet Deals

0
[ad_1]

If you’re looking to pick up a new tablet, then Black Friday is definitely a good time to do just that. There’s a ton of great tablet deals available for Samsung, Lenovo, Apple and even Amazon tablets. Which is what we’ll be rounding up in this post.

Like with many of the other Black Friday roundups we have done, this will be updated periodically until Black Friday. So you can be sure that you’re getting the best tablet deals possible.

Black Friday 2023 Tablet Deals

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra

Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra Protective Standing Cover

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is a monster-sized tablet. This tablet has a 14.6-inch display, which is an OLED panel so it looks incredible, but it is incredibly large too. Making this more of a laptop replacement then a tablet. This isn’t a tablet you’re going to hold for a long time and use. Instead you’ll have it on a tablet or maybe in your lap. But it is still my favorite tablet, because it is so incredible for watching content, due to that OLED display.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra – Best Buy

OnePlus Pad

OnePlus pad go official image 5

The OnePlus Pad is a pretty incredible tablet for the price. As we mentioned in our review earlier this year, this is a great experience at a pretty low price. And now for Black Friday it is even cheaper. Making this a really incredible time to grab the OnePlus Pad, especially since it will be getting support for Open Canvas in the coming months.

OnePlus Pad – Amazon

Apple iPad (10th Generation)

81laS flS0L AC SL1500

This is the newest “basic” iPad from Apple, since they surprisingly did not release a new one in 2023. This got the huge upgrade, which makes the bezels a lot smaller, ditches the home button for gestures, and also goes to USB-C. Thankfully, it can now use the new USB-C Apple Pencil instead of using that Lightning version from many years ago. It’s a good tablet to pick up for your kids, or yourself, if you just need a tablet and nothing super fancy.

Apple iPad (10th Gen) – Amazon

TCL TAB 10s

61+eeNccOaL AC SL1500

This is a pretty small tablet from TCL, and it’s pretty cheap too. Making it perfect for kids, seeing as it is under $100. That means that if your kid breaks it, you won’t be too mad. Or at least not as mad as if it where a $300 or $500 tablet. It does all of the basics, and comes with a micro SD card slot for added storage.

When is Black Friday 2023?

Black Friday is always the Friday after Thanksgiving, which this year, lands on November 24, 2023. In previous years, before the pandemic, stores would open up on Thursday evening to start Black Friday shopping. That’s becoming less of a thing, with more and more stores opting to stay closed on Thanksgiving, letting their employees spend the holiday with their families.

It’s not quite as big of an in-store event as it used to be, prior to the pandemic. Especially with online shopping being so easy these days. However, Black Friday sales are starting earlier and earlier than ever. They used to truly start the Tuesday or Wednesday before Black Friday. Now we see some retailers starting their Black Friday sales back in October. A full month ahead of the event.

Black Friday is the true start to the holiday shopping season, with Cyber Monday happening the following Monday and then Small Business Tuesday the next day. The following Monday we have “Green Monday” as well, which is another smaller shopping holiday.

What is the Best Tablet?

We have tested many different tablets throughout the years, and spent hundreds of hours using them. So we can confidently say that the best Android tablet is the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the best iPad is the iPad Pro 11-inch.

The Galaxy Tab S9 series is the best because it offers an OLED display across three screen sizes (11-, 12.4- and 14.6-inch) so you can choose which one fits you best. They also all come with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, making them super powerful tablets and capable of even replacing your laptop.

On the iPad side of things, the best iPad is the iPad Pro 11-inch. While the 12.9-inch does have a significantly better display, it’s a bit unwieldily to use. And the 11-inch is a much better experience. It offers a 120Hz display, with the M2 processor which is the same chipset that powers the Mac right now. So it’s plenty powerful, and you can even use Final Cut Pro X on the iPad which is really exciting.

How do we choose the Best Black Friday Tablet Deals?

Here at AndroidHeadlines, we believe that the best Black Friday deals are only as good as the products that are on sale. Meaning that just because something is discounted, doesn’t mean it’s a good deal. We generally only post about products that are close to all-time lows, or are all-time lows, or have been discounted significantly for the first time in a long time. So you won’t find us posting “deals” Just because a laptop shaved $100 off of the regular price. Those have been posted because they generally don’t go on sale, or are generally not discounted that much.

What are the other best Black Friday deals available right now?

Hackers Claim Major Data Breach at Smart WiFi Provider Plume

0
[ad_1]

An X (Twitter) account, operated by hackers using the handle @MonkeyInject, alleges that the breach was facilitated by a former employee of Plume.

The smart Wi-Fi service provider, Plume, has apparently fallen victim to a data breach. The perpetrators, claiming responsibility for the incident, made their announcement on the notorious Breach Forums.

This is the same forum where, in the past few days, we observed the data leak of a scraped LinkedIn user database comprising 35 million entries and two scraped databases from Chess.com.

The Palo Alto, California-based Plume is a SaaS (software-as-a-company) platform offering users AI security, smart Wi-Fi, and cloud management services, and has footprints in over 45 countries, covering 55 million homes and small businesses.

The attackers are currently claiming to have stolen over 20GB of the company’s Wi-Fi database with over 15 million lines of information. Plume, however, has not confirmed the news, stating that it is aware of the attackers’ claims and has launched an investigation to verify these claims.

What the hackers are claiming (Screenshot: Hackread.com)

At the same time, dissatisfied with Plume’s response, the hackers have released two CSV files, each containing purported data of the company’s customers and employees. As reported by Hackread.com, the first file includes email addresses, full names, countries, device details, and other information related to the alleged 26,000 customers of the company.

The second file comprises 3,086 email addresses and full names, which the hackers claim belong to Plume’s employees. A majority of the leaked email addresses are associated with the @plume.com and @plumewifi.com domains.

The alleged Plume data as seen by Hackread.com

Darren James – Senior Product Manager, Specops Software – An Outpost24 Company commented on the alleged breach adding, “Any data breach that involves the loss of personal information is always a huge concern, not just for the affected organisation, but specifically for people whose data has been stolen.”

“Although we don’t have many details on this particular breach right now, even the loss of a username or email address can open an attack vector on any site where you have also used those same details,” James emphasised.

“My advice for anyone affected by such breaches, it is imperative that they change their passwords across all platforms that use the same username as soon as possible, ideally using a password that hasn’t already been breached,” he said.

Hackers on X (Twitter)

The hackers have also created an X (Twitter) profile to disclose details of the attack and stolen data on their handle @MonkeyInject, which is an interesting step as hackers usually hide their identities and operate covertly. Addressing the X community, the hackers wrote that:

“We hope this message finds you well. We regret to inform you that there has been a security breach at @plume, affecting approximately 8.5 million users, all staff, application tokens, and off-site locations, particularly in Metro Manila.”

In subsequent tweets, they noted that the leak includes email addresses, first and last names, device details, IP addresses, user IDs, city, cards, carriers, and other data. The hacker provided a preview of the information on their Twitter page to legitimize their claims.

MonkeyInject also revealed that the breach was facilitated by a former employee of Plume, who left the company in 2023 but still possessed access rights, indicating Plume’s lackluster approach toward implementing robust security protocols.

The hacker on X (Screenshot: Hackread.com)

The hackers gave the company 48 hours to comply with their demands otherwise, they would disclose more data. They also encouraged Plume to improve its access control policies to prevent similar incidents.

“This lapse in access management is a critical flaw that requires immediate attention. To safeguard the integrity of the affected data and protect the privacy of our users, we kindly request @plume’s prompt compliance with our demands within the next 48 hours. Failure to do so may result in the disclosure and sharing of additional sensitive information,” the hackers tweeted.

Stay Tuned for Updates!

Nevertheless, Hackread.com is closely monitoring the situation, and this article will be updated accordingly, taking into account any responses from Plume and in the event that the hackers decide to leak the entire trove of data.

Pixel 8a dummy shows a thin camera visor, but thick bezels

0
[ad_1]

We’re still getting over the hype surrounding the Google Pixel 8 phones. These are the latest flagship offerings from Google, and they’ve proven to be exciting phones. However, it’s never too early to talk about leaks of future devices. Thanks to a LinkedIn post, we have some leaked images of a Pixel 8a dummy.

Since we’re easily half a year from the launch of this device (and, we can’t technically say that it’s guaranteed to come out), you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt. We’re talking about extremely early information. Between now and the launch, anything could change. It’s important to remember that.

A Pixel 8a dummy just appeared, showing us the possible design

If history is any indicator, we should expect the new budget-friendly Pixel to come out sometime in early Summer 2024. In the past, the “a” versions of Google’s Pixel phones have always reflected their premium siblings. So, the Pixel 8a is expected to be a spitting image of the Pixel 8 Proper.

The aluminum dummy spotted on LinkedIn reinforces that notion. We see that the dummy retains the rounder corners that we got with the Pixel 8 phones this year. Also, we see that iconic camera visor that’s characterized the Pixel line over the past two years. It looks about as wide as the Pixel 8’s, as we even see where the two lenses have been etched in.

Moving to the front, we see what looks like a thick bezel running all the way around the phone. Google’s phones aren’t quite known for their paper-thin bezels, so we should be surprised if this reflects how the phone will look when it launches. Still, you don’t want to bet on it.

Looking at the phone from the sides, we see that the camera visor is notably thin. It’s not quite flush with the body, but it’s definitely slimmer than what we saw with the Pixel 8 phones. However, the body of the phone looks rather thick compared to other Pixel phones. So, the camera visor might be thinner because of that.

In any case, this is one of the first major leaks of the Pixel 8a. They will heat up as time goes on.

The untold stories of Bitcoin: Connections to uncommon Altcoins

0
[ad_1]

In the world of cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin is the undisputed king. Its meteoric rise from obscurity to global recognition has captured the imagination of both investors and tech enthusiasts alike. However, what often goes unnoticed are the intricate connections between Bitcoin and lesser-known altcoins. In this article, we will embark on a journey to uncover the untold stories of these connections and explore how they have shaped the cryptocurrency landscape. To protect your assets effectively, it’s vital to pick a secure trading platform like Immediate Circuit.

Genesis of Altcoins

To understand the connections between Bitcoin and altcoins, we must first delve into the early days of cryptocurrency. Bitcoin, created by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009, was the pioneer of this digital revolution. However, it didn’t take long for developers to realize that Bitcoin had limitations, particularly in terms of scalability and functionality.

The Role of Litecoin

One of the earliest altcoins to emerge was Litecoin, created by Charlie Lee in 2011. Litecoin aimed to address some of Bitcoin’s shortcomings, offering faster transaction confirmation times and a different hashing algorithm. This move laid the foundation for a broader trend in the cryptocurrency space—forking and creating new digital assets to experiment with various features and improvements.

Bitcoin’s Influence on Altcoins

Bitcoin’s success acted as a catalyst for the proliferation of altcoins. Its decentralized and open-source nature inspired developers worldwide to create their cryptocurrencies, each with its unique features and use cases. This early experimentation paved the way for the evolution of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Ripple: Bitcoin’s Financial Ecosystem Partner

While Bitcoin focused on being a decentralized digital currency, Ripple (XRP) emerged with a different goal in mind. Ripple aimed to revolutionize the financial industry by facilitating fast and low-cost cross-border transactions. This unique objective aligned with Bitcoin’s mission to challenge traditional financial systems.

Bitcoin and Ripple’s Shared Vision

Bitcoin and Ripple share a common vision of reducing the reliance on centralized intermediaries in financial transactions. While Bitcoin disrupts the role of banks in currency issuance, Ripple targets the global payment infrastructure. This shared ethos has led to intriguing collaborations and partnerships between the two projects.

Ethereum: The Smart Contract Pioneer

Ethereum, created by Vitalik Buterin in 2015, introduced a groundbreaking concept to the cryptocurrency world—smart contracts. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily serves as digital gold and a medium of exchange, Ethereum is a platform that enables developers to build decentralized applications (DApps) using smart contracts.

Ethereum’s Unique Capabilities

Ethereum’s smart contracts allow for the automation of complex tasks and the creation of decentralized applications. This innovation opened up a world of possibilities beyond what Bitcoin could offer. Ethereum’s blockchain became a playground for developers, giving rise to a plethora of tokens, decentralized finance (DeFi) projects, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The Symbiotic Relationship

Bitcoin and Ethereum may seem like competitors, but they actually have a symbiotic relationship. While Bitcoin remains the go-to store of value, Ethereum serves as the foundation for a broader blockchain ecosystem. Many altcoins and tokens built on Ethereum’s blockchain interact with Bitcoin in various ways, further intertwining their fates.

Uncommon Altcoins with Unique Ties to Bitcoin

Beyond Ripple and Ethereum, several lesser-known altcoins have established unique connections to Bitcoin, each with its own story to tell.

Stellar (XLM)

Stellar is a cryptocurrency and platform designed to facilitate cross-border transactions, making it a natural companion to Bitcoin. Stellar’s mission is to provide financial access to the unbanked and underbanked populations worldwide. It achieves this by offering fast and low-cost international payments.

Stellar’s connection to Bitcoin lies in its use as a bridge currency for cross-border transactions involving Bitcoin. This integration demonstrates how different cryptocurrencies can work together to solve real-world problems.

Cardano (ADA)

Cardano takes a more academic and research-driven approach to blockchain technology, inspired by Bitcoin’s principles of decentralization and security. Founded by Charles Hoskinson, one of Ethereum’s co-founders, Cardano aims to create a more secure and scalable blockchain platform.

While Cardano differs significantly from Bitcoin in terms of its underlying technology and goals, it shares a commitment to decentralization and innovation. This shared ethos highlights the collaborative nature of the cryptocurrency space.

Monero (XMR)

Monero is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that employs advanced cryptographic techniques to obscure transaction details. While Bitcoin offers a level of transparency through its public ledger, Monero prioritizes user privacy and anonymity.

Monero’s connection to Bitcoin lies in its contrasting approach to privacy. While Bitcoin transactions are pseudonymous, meaning they can be traced to specific addresses, Monero transactions are designed to be completely private and untraceable. This divergence in philosophy showcases the diversity of cryptocurrencies and their respective use cases.

Bitcoin and Altcoin Interactions in the Market

The interconnectedness of Bitcoin and altcoins extends beyond technology and into the cryptocurrency market itself. Here, we explore how these interactions play out in the ever-evolving crypto landscape.

The Impact of Bitcoin’s Price Movements

Bitcoin’s price often serves as a barometer for the entire cryptocurrency market. When Bitcoin experiences significant price fluctuations, it typically triggers similar movements in altcoins. This phenomenon is commonly referred to as “altseason,” where altcoins surge in value as investors seek higher returns.

Altcoins as a Testing Ground

The cryptocurrency space is highly competitive, with projects constantly vying for attention and investment. Altcoins often act as testing grounds for innovative features and technologies that are later adopted or adapted by Bitcoin. For example, the introduction of Segregated Witness (SegWit) and the Lightning Network in Bitcoin was influenced by developments in the altcoin space.

Speculative Trading Strategies

Investors and traders frequently exploit the connections between Bitcoin and altcoins for speculative purposes. One popular strategy is “arbitrage,” where traders take advantage of price differences between exchanges for the same asset, such as Bitcoin, to make a profit. Additionally, “pair trading” involves trading one cryptocurrency against another, such as Bitcoin against Ethereum, based on relative performance.

The Future of Bitcoin and Altcoin Relationships

As the cryptocurrency space continues to evolve, so too will the relationships between Bitcoin and altcoins. Predicting the future of these connections is a challenging but intriguing endeavor.

Bitcoin’s Evolution

Bitcoin is not a static technology. Developers are continually working on improving its scalability, security, and functionality. These advancements may influence how Bitcoin interacts with other cryptocurrencies in the future. Lightning Network, Taproot, and other upgrades could further enhance Bitcoin’s utility and interoperability.

Potential New Altcoins

The cryptocurrency space is constantly innovating, giving rise to new altcoins with unique features and use cases. Some of these projects may revolutionize the industry, offering solutions to problems not yet addressed by Bitcoin or existing altcoins. Keeping an eye on emerging projects can provide insights into the future landscape of cryptocurrencies.

Regulatory Factors

Governments and regulators worldwide are increasingly taking an interest in the cryptocurrency space. How they choose to regulate cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology could significantly impact Bitcoin and altcoins. Striking a balance between innovation and compliance will be essential for the continued growth of the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

Conclusion

In the ever-evolving realm of cryptocurrencies, the intricate connections between Bitcoin and lesser-known altcoins offer a compelling and multifaceted narrative. From Ripple’s visionary goal of disrupting the financial sector to Ethereum’s groundbreaking advancements in smart contract technology, and the distinctive use cases of less prominent altcoins, these concealed stories enhance our comprehension of the cryptocurrency landscape. Looking forward, the evolving synergies between Bitcoin and altcoins are poised to have a profound impact on the trajectory of this revolutionary technology. Stay inquisitive, stay informed, and continue your journey into the intricacies of the crypto universe.

Hackers Abuse Google Forms to Bypass Anti-spam Filters

0
[ad_1]

Cybersecurity researchers at Talos have discovered that spammers are taking advantage of Google Forms quizzes to disseminate various types of online scams to unsuspecting victims.

Since Google’s servers are where the emails are coming from, it could be simpler for them to get past anti-spam filters and reach the recipient’s mailbox.

The spammers create new quiz forms and then abuse the “Release Scores” in the form to deliver their spam to the victim.

For instance, When constructing a new form in Google Forms, a creator has the option to “Make this a quiz.” The quiz’s decision to distribute grades “Later, after manual review” requires that email addresses be included.

The setting, choosing “responder input” allows the spammer to fill in the victim’s email.

You may add any text or URL to the message that is sent as part of the email, and Google will deliver it using the Google account that produced the quiz’s “From:” address, reads the report.

Protect Your Storage With SafeGuard

StorageGuard scans, detects, and fixes security misconfigurations and vulnerabilities across hundreds of storage and backup devices.

The email messages created using this method have a high probability of reaching the victim’s inbox since they are generated from Google’s servers.

The spam also affected the cryptocurrency by using Google Forms; a recent example is given below:

An example of a recent scam by Google form
An example of a recent scam by Google form

When the user clicks the ‘view’ button, it redirects to the fake website of spammers and wants to fill in the user email ID.

Accordingly, it redirects to the external link of a fake website for the DNS query. Upon accessing dudicyqehama[.]top, the user is presented with a sophisticated fraudulent website claiming to have over 1.3 Bitcoin in their account due to “automatic cloud Bitcoin mining,” with an estimated value of over $46,000.

By clicking ‘continue’, it defaults to the sign-in pages, username and password are prefilled into the form.

When the victim attempts to claim their Bitcoin from the main site, they are redirected to what looks like a live chat with an agent named “Sophia.”

Want to fill out the form to transfer the money by filling in the bank details? The victim is instructed that to claim almost $48,000, the victim must pay an “exchange fee” of 0.25%, or $64.

To exchange, they want to fill out the last form by entering their name, email, and phone number. The spammer sends the BTC QR code to scam the victim.

Fortunately, none of them are not attacked in this scam.

So, Google didn’t originally plan on making money off of the Play Store

0
[ad_1]

Don’t you hate it when you start an app and you’re inundated with prompts and pop-ups pushing you to pay for microtransactions? As you can imagine, all of the people making these microtransactions each year are filling Google’s pockets to the brim. That’s about par for the course today, but it seems that Google didn’t plan for it to be this way at the start. Google didn’t really plan on making money from the Play Store.

Right now, Epic Games is still working on suing Google for its alleged monopoly over the Android app landscape. the lawsuit has been going on since 2020, and we have no idea when to expect a conclusion.

In any case, big cases like these tend to leak long-buried secrets about a company. Just look at all of the information leaked during Google’s massive anti-trust case that’s going on.

Google didn’t plan on making money off of the Play Store at the start

Back in 2008, when Google first established the Android Market, Eric Chu, the former head of the Google ecosystem, wrote the FAQ for the marketplace. Nowadays, Google takes about 30% of the income from developers for itself. However, back in the day, the company took a substantially smaller portion. It had a 70/25/5 split. 70% of the income went to the developers and 25% went to the carriers. This means that Google only pocketed 5% of the profit for itself.

This was mostly just to cover the cost of upkeep. However, no one could have anticipated just how lucrative the mobile phone market was going to become. Back in 2008, a person spending thousands of dollars on an app was unheard of. Now, apps like Genshin Impact and Pokemon Go have raked in billions of dollars from microtransactions for their companies. The mobile app market brings in more money than the console and PC markets combined, and it’s only accelerating.

The trial is still raging on, and it could have some serious implications for the company. Only time will tell how this massive trial will turn out.
