Samsung‘s stable Android 14 update is officially here. The company has released the big Android update with One UI 6.0 for the Galaxy S23 series. It’s available for both beta and non-beta users in several European countries. The rollout should soo reach more markets, including the US. Other Galaxy models will follow the suit in the coming weeks.

The Galaxy S23 series gets the stable Android 14 update

Samsung has been beta-testing the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update among the public since the first half of August. During this time, it released as many as nine beta builds for the Galaxy S23 series, and dozens more for other models. Earlier today, it started pushing the stable version to the latest flagships in Europe. As expected, beta users got it first. However, Samsung didn’t keep others waiting much longer.

The first stable Android 14 firmware build number for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra in Europe is S91*BXXU3BWJM. For beta users, the OTA (over the air) package weighs about 360MB. However, it’s a massive 3GB download for non-beta users. Note that the build number and OTA size may vary according to the device’s model and region. The changelog will remain the same, though.

Speaking of changelog, this is a major Android OS upgrade, so there’s plenty to talk about here. From UI changes and new features to functional improvements for existing features and stock apps, One UI 6.0 brings a lot. This update will substantially improve your Galaxy smartphone experience. You can refer to our article about One UI 6.0 features for more.

Samsung is expected to soon roll out this update for the Galaxy S23 series in other markets. If you’re using any of the three models, watch out for a notification promoting you to download a new software update in the coming days. Tap on the notification and follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade your phone to Android 14. You can also go to Settings> Software update and tap on Download and install to check for updates manually.

Other Galaxy models should get this update soon

The Galaxy S23 series has opened the floodgates for Samsung’s Android 14 rollout. The company will now quickly sweep through other eligible models, with flagships getting a priority. Like last year, it should release a roadmap for each market in the coming days. You will find the roadmap in the Samsung Members app. We will also keep you posted with the updates.

Google co-founder’s 400-foot airship is cleared for flight

0
[ad_1]

Sergey Brin, one of Google’s co-founders, stepped down from his role as the president of Alphabet in December 2019. His focus shifted to his high-tech airship venture, LTA Research. In a recent development, LTA Research has successfully obtained a one-year airworthiness certificate for its groundbreaking Pathfinder 1 airship.

The CEO and founder of Lighter Than Air (LTA) Research, Alan Weston, brings a wealth of experience. He has worked in the Air Force Research Laboratory, NASA Ames Research Center, and the Florida Space Institute at UCF. Weston’s vision for this company revolves around exploring the potential of low-emission alternative-powered airships.

Through Weston’s research into airship designs, he recognized their potential in humanitarian and disaster relief efforts. Sergey Brin, who shares a deep appreciation for aviation, backed the project in 2015. As a result, LTA established an R&D facility in Akron, Ohio, and a hangar in Mountain View, California, by 2016.

Construction of the 400-foot Pathfinder 1, with its impressive 66-foot diameter and electric power source, began soon after Brin’s involvement. This airship has a rigid structure featuring an interior framework of interconnected tubes. Moreover, the rigidity gives it superior structural strength compared to traditional balloon-like blimps.

Pathfinder 1 airship boasts twelve electric motors. Each provides efficient power and the ability to rotate 360 degrees for precise control. Its inner rib cage consists of 13 mainframes made up of 3,000 titanium hubs and 10,000 multi-ply carbon fiber-reinforced tubes. The airship also features 13 helium bags to provide the necessary lift and is equipped with all-terrain landing gear. The goal is for Pathfinder 1 to accommodate 14 people and carry up to 11,000 pounds of cargo.

LTA Research is committed to building a fleet of zero-emission airships, all focusing on humanitarian efforts

According to LTA’s certificate application, “Pathfinder 1’s experimental flight test program is designed to demonstrate and establish the flight envelope for the airship. LTA’s test plan includes substantial indoor and outdoor ground testing, using a build-up approach to gradually expand the flight envelope.”

The Pathfinder 1 airship stands out due to its impressive cargo capacity and ability to operate without an airstrip. The certificate qualifies LTA to conduct 25 low-level flights, totaling 50 hours of flight time, within Moffett Field, a military airfield located in Santa Clara, California. LTA Research has been quietly developing these airships for years, and now, the Pathfinder 1 is finally ready for its first flight.

This airworthiness certificate is not only pivotal for the Pathfinder 1 but will also yield crucial data for future research and development of airships. LTA expects to complete the Pathfinder 1’s test program within 180 days.

The Pathfinder 1 airship has clearance to fly at a maximum altitude of 1,500 feet within the airspace of Moffett Field and the Palo Alto airport. These tests conducted under the airworthiness certificate will generate invaluable data to advance the development of low-emission airships. With their potential for reaching hard-to-access regions, airships hold the promise of revolutionizing the delivery of resources, making this a project to root for.

Home Assistant gets better support for Android with ‘Device Controls’

0
[ad_1]

To give Android users more control over their smart home devices, Home Assistant is getting support for Device Control. This Android feature is now available in the panel view of the Home Assistant app, from here users can access all their devices when necessary. Users will begin to notice changes to their app after they install the latest update, and this will give them more control over their home appliances.

With this improvement to the Home Assistant app, users no longer need to rely on just the built-in controls. They can now rely on the app’s dashboard to control devices around their smart home. Only Android 14 users will have access to this dashboard, while users still running older Android versions will have to stick to the built-in controls.

Home Assistant says that the built-in controls and the dashboard have their usage benefits. However, with Device Control on Android 14 devices, users can customize controls to suit their needs. If you use the Home Assistant app (on your Android 14 device) for your smart devices, then here’s all you need to know.

Here is everything you can achieve with the new Home Assistant Device Control feature

The Home Assistant app is a great option for controlling smart devices around the house. With the roll-out of Android 14 to devices, the Home Assistant app is getting some impressive tools for usage on this update. This improvement will work just like the Google Home Panel available on some Android 14 devices.

While the Home Panel is a great way to control your smart devices on Android 14, it is only available on some devices. For now, only Pixel and Samsung devices that are running Android 14 have access to this feature. Android users who own smart home appliances can opt to use the new Home Assistant Device Control feature.

With this new Home Assistant feature for Android 14, users can perform a ton of controls from their smartphone. From controlling lights down to adjusting the thermostat, users can perform a lot of customizable actions. For easy access, this new feature organizes smart home devices into a dashboard, from where users can perform or customize controls.

Users are also able to set up controls for usage even when their device is locked. Those wanting to perform more than one control at the same time can benefit from the side-by-side server controls on the dashboard. More Android 14 users are getting access to this new feature on their devices for better smart home device controls.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 might not launch next year

0
[ad_1]

Top Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the company hasn’t yet started working on the Apple Watch Ultra 3. This might indicate that Apple wants to cancel the product for 2024.

Last month, Apple unveiled the Apple Watch Ultra 2 as the second generation of its best-selling wearable. The original Watch Ultra was also launched in 2022. While Apple fans and journalists were speculating about the Apple Watch Ultra 3 for next year, Ming-Chi Kuo came with bad news.

The legendary Apple supply chain analyst says it’s “unusual” that the company hasn’t yet started developing the third generation of its smartwatch for 2024. He added that Apple was working on the Ultra 2 around this time last year. Considering the long development cycle of a new product, Apple may have decided to cancel the Ultra 3 for 2024.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 might be removed from Apple’s lineup for 2024

Ming-Chi Kuo noted if Apple doesn’t start working on Ultra 3 by December, it’s “almost confirmed” that the product won’t make it to 2024. He also said the delay might be due to Apple’s commitment to developing “innovative health management features” and ensuring “the manufacturability of new features.” Additionally, the tech firm might still need time to address the Micro LED production issues.

Apple still has over a month to start working on Ultra 3 for the 2024 launch event. Canceling a best-selling product in the wearables segment looks like a suicide for every company. However, Apple might have other priorities. More details about Apple’s final decision will come out in December.

If the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is canceled for 2024, it’s estimated that the shipment of Ultra series watches could decline by around 20-30% compared to 2023. In that case, the total Apple Watch shipment would also plunge by 10%.

The European Union has recently accused Apple of lying about the carbon footprint of Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches. The reports claim producing each Apple Watch results in 7kg-12kg of emissions. The EU now orders the tech firm to remove carbon neutrality from its watch ads.

Vivo X100 Pro+ flagship is coming, specs & design surface

0
[ad_1]

The Vivo X100 Pro+ flagship is on its way, and the phone’s specs and design have just surfaced. Before we get to that, however, do note that the Vivo X100 and Vivo X100 Pro are also expected to launch at the same time.

The Vivo X100 Pro+ specs & design appear online

Having said that, Digital Chat Station shared a sketch of the phone. Based on this, the device will include a curved display, but the bezels are not really highlighted properly. If they end up being as thin as the sketch indicates, this phone will break all records, as they’re basically not there. They’re expected to be included, but will be very thin.

A display camera hole will once again be centered, and the device will have a large camera oreo on the back. That camera island will be centered, and you can also notice that ZEISS optics will be included. That’s something we’re used to seeing from Vivo.

ZEISS’ T* coating will be included, for reflections. We can see four separate sensors in that camera oreo, and an LED flash outside of it. We’re not sure if this means that four cameras will be included, as one of the cutouts could be reserved for other sensors. Based on the rumors, we are getting four cameras on the back, though.

Three models with glass backs will launch, and one with a vegan leather backplate

The tipster also mentioned that we’ll be getting three glass models, and one vegan leather variant. The glass back models will come in white, black, and blue colors, while the vegan leather variant will have an orange backplate.

He also mentioned that all models will include 16GB of RAM (LPDDR5T). That could be the only option. They will offer different storage tiers, though, and the top-end model will come with 1TB of storage (UFS 4.0).

Now, some other rumored specs got highlighted by Abhishek Yadav. A 6.78-inch QHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate is mentioned. The same goes for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, and Android 14.

A powerful camera setup is expected to be included

A 50-megapixel main camera (Sony’s IM898 sensor, OIS) will likely be included. It will be backed by a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit (Sony’s IMX589 sensor), a 50-megapixel portrait camera (Sony’s IMX758 sensor), and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (Samsung’s ISOCELL HP3 sensor, 10x zoom).

A 5,400mAh battery was also mentioned, as was 100W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. The device will likely include an in-display fingerprint scanner (an ultrasonic one), and will be water and dust resistant.

Newest Apple Watches now support customizable double-tap gestures

0
[ad_1]

A few weeks ago, Apple unveiled their latest watches and now these products are getting support for customizable double-tap gestures. During the launch event, Apple marketed this double-tap gesture feature as a reason to purchase the new Apple Watches. However, ever since the release of these watches, fans have been in expectation of this feature, which is now arriving.

With the latest watchOS 10.1 update, the customizable gesture feature is arriving on the new watches. The update now allows users to pick from a wide range of options on what they want the double-tap function to perform. Also, the way this double tap feature works is impressive and doesn’t require users to interact with their watch’s screen.

By just tapping their fingers together in a pinching motion, users can activate this feature. This action triggers a response from the new Apple Watch products that users can customize to their taste. The Apple Watches that support this customizable action are the Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2.

Customizing the double-tap gesture on the Apple Watch 9 and Ultra 2 is simple

As the watchOS 10.1 update rolls out to Apple Watch 9 and Ultra 2 users around the world, a much-awaited feature arrives. This feature is the ability to customize the double-tap gesture feature that launched with these watches. Now, users can pick between 10 actions that they can perform by just tapping their fingers together twice in a pinching motion with the watch on their wrist.

Thanks to the new S9 chip on the Apple Watch 9 and Ultra 2, this double-tap gesture feature is available for usage. If you are using an older Apple Watch model, you won’t get the customizable gesture update. The new chip on these recently launched watches can detect slight movement on the user’s wrist.

Once users of the Apple Watch 9 or Ultra 2 install this new update, they can head on to customize the gestures to their taste. Apple offers up to 10 actions that users can perform with this gesture feature. From answering calls directly from your wrist to starting or stopping an automatic workout reminder, there are a lot of users who can achieve these customizations.

To access these customization options and pick their favourite, users must access the Apple Watch app. This app is available on their Apple smartphone and the customizations are under the gesture settings. The gesture settings are under the “My Watch” section of the app.

Do note that only users of the new Apple Watches have access to this customization feature. If you use an older Apple Watch model, this customization feature won’t be available. Apple Watch users can now head over and update their watches to the watchOS 10.1 version, unlocking lots of improvements.

Elon Musk envisions X will become a financial powerhouse in a year

0
[ad_1]

A year after Elon Musk took the reins at Twitter, changes keep rolling in like autumn leaves in a breeze. And it seems the transformation won’t be slowing down anytime soon. Musk is on a mission to reshape the former Twitter into X, an everything app.

Apparently, Musk envisions X as the epicenter of your financial world, handling all things money-related in your life. He shared his expectations with X employees in a recent all-hands call, hinting that the new features would surprise people with their power.

According to an audio of the meeting obtained by The Verge, Musk clarified during the call, “When I say payments, I actually mean someone’s entire financial life. If it involves money, it’ll be on our platform—money, securities, or whatever. So, it’s not just like sending $20 to my friend. I’m talking about, like, you won’t need a bank account.

In essence, Musk aims for the app to go beyond simple money transfers, extending to include loans, debit cards, savings, and global money transfers, essentially making traditional bank accounts obsolete.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino expressed the company’s optimism, foreseeing this as a complete opportunity by 2024. Musk added, “It would blow my mind if we don’t have that rolled out by the end of next year.”

To make this financial evolution happen, the company is actively securing money transmission licenses across the US, with progress already made in some states.
Musk has previously outlined his vision of turning X into a financial hub, even renaming Twitter after his dot-com-boom-era online bank, X.com, which later became part of PayPal.

The platform is expected to offer a range of financial services, including high-yield money market accounts, debit cards, checks, and loan services. Musk’s ultimate goal is to enable users to “send money anywhere in the world instantly and in real-time.”

This transformation aligns with Musk’s broader ambition of making X an “everything app,” comparable to super apps like WeChat in China, which provide access to shopping, transportation, and more.

Huawei smartphones are flagging Google app as a virus

0
[ad_1]

Some Huawei and HONOR smartphones have started flagging the Google app as a virus. Users across Reddit, Google Support, and various other forums, have started reporting the issue, and sharing screenshots.

Some Huawei & HONOR smartphones seem to be flagging the Google app as a virus

The phones are saying that the “app is infected”, and they label it as a “TrojanSMS-PA” virus. The prompt says that the app has the ability to send SMS messages without the user’s consent, and poses a risk related to that.

This is the full warning message: “This app was detected sending SMS privately, enticing users to pay with adult content, downloading/installing apps privately, or stealing private information, which may cause property damage and privacy leakage. We recommend uninstalling it immediately.”

Huawei smartphones Google app virus bug

Norton & Sophos did not flag it

Of course, users pushed the app through other antivirus apps, such as Norton and Sophos, and it was not flagged as a virus app. Huawei did not respond to this by the time we wrote this article, but it could soon.

Now, as many of you know, Google apps are not officially available for Huawei smartphones due to the US ban. There are ways to get them running, like through GSpace, but you can’t even sideload them in a normal way, as they won’t work without Google Services. You have to use an emulator such as GSpace.

The thing is, we’re not sure if this warning is popping up on devices that don’t have Google services, or those that do. Chances are it’s the first one, though, as HONOR is also mentioned, and this app seems to be installed directly on the phone.

This seems to be a bug

Now, it seems like Huawei software mixed up the Google app for a virus, it could be a bug or something of the sort. The Google app is most certainly not a trojan virus, so that has to be a mistake of some sort.

Huawei will likely address this soon. In the meantime, if you’re having the same issue, and can’t really install the app, there are ways to step around it. You can try removing the app and reinstalling it. Clearing the data from Huawei’s Phone Manager app also helped some users.

New Threads update brings an in-app GIF picker and support for polls

0
[ad_1]

Meta keeps working hard on its new social media platform, Threads, to make it an app with 1 billion users in the next couple of years. Of course, for an app to be attractive it needs to have fun and useful features. Now, Meta is adding some new features for Threads, reports 9to5Google, including a native GIF picker and polls.

Threads get a native GIF picker and polls with new update

Despite the app still blocking Android keyboards from inserting GIFs, it’s now getting its own native GIF picker with a new update that Zuckerberg announced in a post. Also, the update brings poll support to the app.

The new polls feature works just like you’d suppose it does. You get an option to add up to four poll choices when you’re creating a new post. The poll can run for 24 hours, and currently, there’s no option to modify the time for which the poll is active. The Threads web app doesn’t have polls support yet, though.

Another useful thing in this update is the in-app GIF picker. It is powered by GIPHY and works on all new posts and replies. You can now tap the new “GIF” button in Threads, and this leads you to a library of searchable GIFs. These two features are now available for Threads on Android and iOS with the latest app update.
