The folks at 9to5Google have noticed some similarities between the Google News Following Tab and the Google Search Discovery feature. In a previous update to the Google News app, users were able to customize their following tab to their taste. This update lets users customize their news feeds by picking what publications they like, as well as what topics appeal to them.

Similarly to this update, the Google Search Discovery feature also gives users the content they wish to see. It does this by letting users control what news content gets to them with the help of the “Manage Your Interest” settings. From this settings option, users can let Google know what topics they have an interest in, and they can also block content from certain publications.

This gives users control over how they access news and what news content comes their way. For professionals, this is very important, as it helps them to focus on what matters to them. For a while, Google News didn’t give users the ability to select what content appealed to them, as they needed to shuffle through available news.

The Google News Following Tab is making the app more usable to a lot of people

For users like 9to5Google’s Abner Li, Google News was a no-go area when sourcing news. This is because of the busy layout of customizable content on the following tab. Instead, these users opt to source news on social media platforms like X, where they can follow their new sources.

There is always a need to keep a strict watch on the type of news you access online as a professional. The launch of Google’s For You tab a few years ago made finding news articles easier for users. Even though this update was an impressive improvement at its time, it didn’t give users a certain level of control accessibility.

In addition to giving users control over their news sources, the update uses AI to source what users might like. It figures this out from the type of news the user reads on the app regularly. But the following feature this previous update brought didn’t have all the sauce that users were looking for.

However, a few months ago, the Google News app got an update that users have been waiting for. Now, just like the Google Search Discovery feature, the Following Tab arranges news articles in an easy-to-access manner. With three cards for publications, topics, and cities, users can easily glance over the content they follow. Each card contains three articles on the said topics that users can tap to expand.

Google News users (on Android devices) around the world are getting access to the new Following feed. With this, they can better access content that appeals to them and they follow. Users of iOS devices and on the web will get the update in the coming weeks.

The Nubia Z50S Pro was originally announced back in July, in China. We had no idea whether it would become available outside of its homeland, but it did. The Nubia Z50S Pro is now available to purchase globally.

We don’t have the information for all markets, but it is available in both the US and Europe. The phone comes in both 12GB and 16GB RAM variants, that’s LPDDR5X RAM, by the way. The 12GB RA model is available with 256GB and 1TB storage options, while the 16GB RAM variant comes with 1TB of storage. UFS 4.0 flash storage is used, the best of the best.

Black and Khaki variants are available to purchase, and the pricing starts at $649/€649. The 12GB RAM model with 1TB of storage costs $729/€729, while the 16GB RAM will set you back $799/€799.

These are actually outstanding price tags, compared to the competition. This phone is the full package, spec-wise, which is why this price may surprise some. It not only comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC (the higher-end, overclocked version), but it has the best of the best in terms of RAM and storage too.

It has a really good display, a large battery, and supports 80W charging

On top of that, a 6.8-inch fullHD+ (2800 x 1260) AMOLED display is included, and it supports a 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports 2,160Hz PWM dimming. The phone also has a 5,100mAh battery on the inside, and supports 80W fast wired charging. Yes, a charger is included in the box. Android 13 comes pre-installed, with Nubia’s custom UI.

Even the cameras look very interesting. A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.59 aperture, OIS, 35mm lens, PDAF, 1/1.49-inch sensor) is included. How to cancel your Apple TV+ Subscription

Apple just announced that it was raising the price of TV+ yet again. This time, it’s getting a 30% price hike, going from $6.99 to $9.99 per month. Putting it up there as one of the more expensive streaming services out there. Part of this reason is because it doesn’t have an ads tier, though that could come very soon.

With that news, many of you might be wondering how you can cancel your Apple TV+ subscription. You can, and Apple actually makes it fairly easy. You can cancel it from Apple’s website, the Settings app on your iOS device, or through Apple TV itself. And we’re going to show you exactly how you can cancel your Apple TV+ subscription.

How to cancel your Apple TV+ Subscription

It’s worth noting that cancelling your Apple TV+ subscription won’t happen right away. Like most subscriptions, you’ll still have access to the service until your billing date comes up. So if you are normally billed on the 15th, you’ll have access until the 14th of the month. Apple doesn’t give out partial refunds and cancel your subscription right away, unfortunately.

From the Apple TV+ website

To cancel from your desktop or laptop, just head over to the Apple TV website.

Once you have logged into your account, click on your profile image in the upper-right hand corner, and click on Settings.

From there, you’ll want to scroll down towards the bottom, to the “Subscriptions” portion of the page.

Now tap on “Manage“.

On this next page, you can decide if you want to switch from the monthly to annual plan, or vice versa. But if you still want to cancel, tap on the “Cancel Subscription” button in gray right below that.

Then hit done, to finish the process. And now your Apple TV+ subscription has been cancelled.

From your iOS device or App Store

On iOS (both iPhone and iPad), Apple has a handy section in the Settings app for all of your subscriptions. Which makes it easy to cancel app subscriptions in one place.

To get there, open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.

Tap on your name at the top of the Settings app. This will take you to your Apple ID settings.

Now, tap on “Subscriptions“. It will take a moment to load, but this page will now show all of your subscriptions that you are currently paying for. It’s a good idea to go through these from time to time to unsubscribe from different things.

Find Apple TV+ and tap on it.

On this page, it’ll show you the price for Apple TV+ as well as when it will renew. Towards the bottom, there is a “Cancel Subscription” button that is in red. Tap on that.

Now, a new dialog box will pop up asking if you really want to cancel. It also tells you that if you confirm the end of your subscription now, you will still be able to access it until your billing period ends. Which, in this example, is November 18, 2023.

Just hit on “Confirm” and your Apple TV+ subscription will be cancelled. You can come back whenever you want, of course, that’s the beauty of streaming services.

From the Apple TV

Over on Apple TV, you can cancel your Apple TV+ subscription in pretty much the same way as on iPhone and iPad.

Open the Settings app on Apple TV. Now head over to Users and Accounts, and then choose your account.

From there, choose “Subscriptions” and you’ll see a list of subscriptions linked to your account. This list will be different from your iPhone, as only subscriptions that have an Apple TV component will be listed.

Select Apple TV+ and then click on “Cancel Subscription“. Again you will see a confirmation page asking you if you really want to cancel or not. Click on Confirm, and you’ll have cancelled your Apple TV+ subscription.

Just as a reminder, your account will still be active until the end of your billing period. Unless it is a free trial that you’re using. If it is a free trial then it will cancel right away.

When you cancel Apple TV+, will you get a refund?

As mentioned already, you won’t get a refund when you cancel Apple TV+. Apple will instead let the subscription stay active until your billing period is over. This is an okay way to do things, since you did already pay for the full month, and Apple is letting you get your money’s worth. Though some might prefer a partial refund for days that weren’t used.

What happens to your account data and downloads, when you cancel Apple TV+?

All of your data (this includes your watchlist, favorite episodes, recommendations and more) will remain in your Apple account. So if you ever decide to restart your Apple TV+ subscription, you can pick up where you left off. However, anything that was downloaded – movies, TV episodes, etc – will be automatically deleted from your device once your current billing period ends.

Can I come back to Apple TV+?

Yes, of course you can come back to Apple TV+. Just restart your subscription in the Apple TV app on any platform. Apple does sometimes offer extended free trials for Apple TV+ when you buy certain Apple products, and since you’re not a current subscriber, you can use those. However, sometimes those extended free trials have a bit of fine print, basically saying that you have to have never been an Apple TV+ subscriber to use it. So keep that in mind.

But when you come back to Apple TV+, all of your data will still be there. This includes recommendations, episodes and movies you’ve watched and much more.

The OnePlus 12 will include a feature, or should we say a sensor, that many Xiaomi phones have. What are we talking about? Well, an IR blaster.

OnePlus, OPPO, and BOE announced a new display yesterday. The BOE X1 display will be included on the upcoming OnePlus 12 smartphone, and during the presentation, something interesting was spotted.

Abhishek Yadav shared some images of the OnePlus 12 that sports the X1 display. The phone itself is well-hidden inside a case, so we can’t see much, other than it has a display camera hole.

On the top, however, there is a circular cutout for something that is not a microphone. Someone in the comment wondered if it’s a headphone jack. Max Jambor, another tipster, decided to clear things up.

He said that it’s not a headphone jack, but an IR blaster. That’s rather interesting, as it’s a feature we don’t usually see on OnePlus devices. The OnePlus 11R was the very first smartphone to feature it, actually, and aside from it, only the OnePlus Open has an IR Blaster… out of all OnePlus devices.

The OnePlus 11 did not offer it, but the OnePlus 12 will. An IR blaster can be rather useful if you want to control various appliances around your household, such as your TV or an air conditioner, for example. It all depends on the model, though.

Xiaomi phones have been having that feature for a long time. Xiaomi simply loves including it on its devices. Well, OnePlus’ flagship will also include it, and yes, chances are it will be available on all models of the device. OnePlus doesn’t really make outer hardware differences between Chinese and global models.

We still don’t know when exactly will the OnePlus 12 launch. Its predecessor arrived in January this year. The OnePlus 12 will either come around the same time next year, or in December 2023, we’ll have to wait and see.

Sharing your Google Bard chat just got better

Google Bard is an incredibly powerful AI tool, and it’s able to do more than just answer your questions. If you had an extended conversation with Bard complete with images, Google will now let you share the conversation with the images, according to a new report.

There are times when you want to share your conversation with other people. That’s a neat function, but if you used images in your conversation, you were out of luck. Bard would only share the text data. So, you couldn’t really convey everything that was shared in the conversation. You could share the images separately, but that just involved an extra step.

That frustration is a thing of the past, as Google just pushed an update to Bard a few days ago. According to a Bard changelog, when you share a conversation, the images will also be shared. Before, if you shared a conversation without the images, you’ll notice gaps in the conversations.

The sharing mechanics are still the same. When you’re in a conversation, you’ll tap on the share icon at the bottom. You can either share it as an email, a Google Doc, or as a public link. When a person clicks on the link, they’ll see a preview of the conversation with all of the text and images. At the bottom of the preview, you’ll see a little Continue the conversation button. When you click on that button, you’ll open a conversation with that text already loaded. From that point, you can continue talking to Bard and pick up where the conversation left off.

There’s another change

Along with this change, Google brought another update that you’ll like if you use Bard to summarize your emails. Now, Bard will be able to summarize more emails at a time. This is great if you need context on more emails. Also, you can ask Bard to only summarize recent emails. These changes are now available.

7TB of Healthcare Data Leak Affects 12 Million Patients

The database was owned by Redcliffe Labs, a popular Indian medical diagnostics company located in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Cybersecurity researcher Jeremiah Fowler discovered a non-password-protected database containing over 12 million records. The data included sensitive patient data such as medical diagnostic scans, test results, and other medical records. Fowler reported his findings to WebsitePlanet.

While investigating, Fowler found that the medical test results contained extensive personal details of patients, including their names, doctors’ names, health-related details, and whether the patient had undergone at-home testing or got tested at the medical facility. These documents belonged to an Indian medical diagnostics firm, Redcliffe Labs.

The database’s total size was 7TB, and it contained around 12,347,297 records. There were folders marked “Reports” that contained 1,180,000 objects (620.5GB). Documents folder marked Smart Report Storage had 1,164,000 objects (1.5GB), the folder titled Test Results had 6,090,852 objects (2.2TB), and other folders contained miscellaneous documents like internal documents, PDFs, logs, and app files. In total, these folders had 3,912,445 objects (2.7 GB).

Apart from the vast data trove, the exposed database also contained development files from the company’s mobile app. These files control the app’s functionality and data transmission.

For your information, Redcliffe Labs is among the leading diagnostic centers in India, offering over 3600 different wellness and illness tests. According to Redcliffe Labs’ website, the facility has a user base of 2.5 million. The company offers at-home testing sample collection services in 220+ Indian cities and boasts over 2000 Walk-in Wellness and Collection Centers across the country.

Endorsing the responsible disclosure practice, Fowler contacted the company, who responded swiftly. According to Folwer’s blog post, the database’s public access was restricted on the same day. However, it is unclear for how long this database remained exposed and whether any unauthorized individual had accessed it.

Such breaches can have far-reaching consequences for the patients, as they may be exposed to identity theft, medical fraud, and extortion. If mobile app-related data gets into the wrong hands, cybercriminals can exploit it to launch cyberattacks, disrupt the app’s functionality, and jeopardize mobile users’ security.

The biggest risk factor is the exposure of application code, which threat actors can manipulate to inject malicious code and compromise the app, add unauthorized features, and inject malware. The exposure can put millions at risk because the exposed code can be used to assess/reverse engineer the app to reveal vulnerabilities, leading to further exploitation.

Redcliffe Labs has not clarified if it has notified relevant authorities or the impacted individuals about the data exposure. Also, there’s no indication that the company’s mobile app is compromised or someone had already accessed patient data before it was restricted. Motorola‘s Razr 2023 foldable, also known as the Razr 40, is the latest phone to go through a teardown at PBKReviews, the YouTube channel known for tearing apart new smartphones to show their internals. This follows a teardown of the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE where we saw the device’s impressive cooling system.

Razr 2023 battery replacements aren’t easy

The Razr 2023 is one of the two clamshell foldables Motorola launched this year. The Razr+, aka Razr 40 Ultra, is the other, with a bigger cover screen on the latter being a key difference. PBKReviews tore apart the former to show it inside out. As usual, the teardown begins with removing the SIM tray and peeling off the back panels. Heat is applied to soften the adhesive so that a pry tool can easily cut through it.

Motorola has applied a graphite film on the underside of the back panels to help transfer the heat from the phone’s body. The internals of the phone are held together with 14 screws. The YouTuber notes that the screws aren’t of the same size, so people dissecting the phone at home should be wary of it. The battery, wireless charging, and NFC cables have a metal bracket on top.

Once the cables are disconnected, we can lift off the sub-board of the Razr 2023. The board comes with the phone’s USB-C charging port attached to it. This paves the way for removing the bigger battery.

However, Motorola hasn’t provided pull tabs here. That means you must use isopropyl alcohol to dissolve the adhesive and use a pry tool to carefully detach the battery from its housing. The same applies to the smaller battery at the top.

The cover display comes off fairly easily with a pry tool. The main board, meanwhile, has a cover on top of it with seven additional screws holding it in place. The cover also has a cable attached to it. Once it goes off, we can see another layer of graphite film on top of the main board. It extends over to the secondary battery. The board now comes off with a graphite film under it.

The new Motorola foldable is quite difficult to repair

Removing the Razr 2023 display involves a similar process as the back panels. Overall, the new Motorola foldable is quite difficult to tear apart and repair. A soldered charging port, the lack of battery pull taps, and a complicated internal structure mean PBKReviews awarded it a repairability score of just 6 out of 10. Now, investors and analysts are wondering how Google plans to monetize its AI products, according to a new report.

This might not be a huge deal for the average Joe, but if you’ve invested in the company, then you might be keeping an eye on the company. As per the company’s earnings report, Google’s cloud business saw a decline that quarter. This, coupled with the fact that Google spent so much money on AI last quarter has people wondering what the company is going to do to make AI more lucrative.

We all know that Google more than recuperated the cost with its ad business. However, that doesn’t do anything for investor confidence.

Investors and analysts want to know how Google plans to monetize

During the company’s latest earnings call, Google executives were presented with some heavy questions. These were about its plans for AI questions revolved around how the company plans to gain some income from AI. As we previously reported, Brian Nowak, managing director for Morgan Stanley, asked the company if there was any tangible sign that the company’s investments were generating a return. This question was centered around the Google Search Generative Experience (SGE).

Pichai responded that it will show “a wider range of sources on the results page, creating new opportunities for content to be discovered.” By this, we’re sure that he means more opportunities to show people ads. Ostensibly, that could lead to more income, but that remains to be seen. The issue with this is that the SGE gives you an AI-generated response to your search query. This eliminates the need to click on search results. That could lead to a decrease in the number of ad clicks.

Right now, we’re still in the early days of this AI age. It seems that Google is optimistic about it. However, the company is going to need to focus on monetizing its AI products. these services are rolling out now, so we’ll have a better idea of how this is going to go in the near future.

Yesterday, Samsung announced that it is ending the One UI 6.0 beta program for the Galaxy S23 series this week. However, the company said it might release one more beta update before that. It was doing a final inspection of the beta software and planned to roll out an update if it discovered major issues. The Korean firm seems to have found something, as it’s now pushing the ninth beta build to the phones.

The latest Android 14-based One UI 6.0 beta update for the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra is currently available in Germany, the UK, and the US. Samsung will soon roll it out in other markets, including China, India, Poland, and South Korea. The new firmware build number is ZWJM (last four characters). The over-the-air (OTA) package weighs around 420MB depending on the region and device model.

Like the previous release, the ninth beta build for the Galaxy S23 trio doesn’t have a lengthy changelog. Well, the update size already reveals that it’s a minor release. Samsung is fixing bugs before the stable rollout, which is expected to begin at the end of this month. If you have enrolled your phone in the One UI 6.0 beta program, watch out for new updates in the coming days.

Alongside iOS 17.1 today, Apple has also released watchOS 10.1. This is also the first .1 update to watchOS 10 since it came out last month, and it actually brings two main features.

The first new feature is one that Apple debuted on the Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 last month. Which is Double Tap. It was odd that this was not available at launch, since it was the only real reason to upgrade from last year’s Apple Watches. But it’s here now in watchOS 10.1. This feature lets you double tap your fingers together to navigate through your Apple Watch. Now it’s not perfect, but it is pretty cool, especially if your other hand is full of groceries. Early beta testers have found that the feature doesn’t work in every single app, unfortunately.

The other feature is NameDrop. This actually came to the iPhone in iOS 17 last month, but now it’s here in watchOS 10.1. Basically, you can tap your watch to someone’s iPhone (or Apple Watch) to transfer your contact information. Just tap on the Contacts app, and then select your profile and tap on “share” from there you can bring the other person’s Apple Watch or iPhone close to initiate the transfer. It’s a really cool feature and kills the need for business cards.

When will watchOS 10.2 beta start?

Now that the beta for watchOS 10.1 is over, many might be wondering when the beta for watchOS 10.2 might start? It’ll likely start either tomorrow, or Apple might wait until next week to roll out the first beta.

As to what is coming in watchOS 10.2? We don’t have a clue yet, but should know pretty soon. And that’s because all of the features that Apple touted with watchOS 10 and even the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 have already been released. So this could be a pretty small update. Even though we are expecting that iOS 17.2 will be a bigger update versus iOS 17.1.
