Apple’s veteran designer, Jony Ive, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will collaborate to build an AI gadget. As The Verge (via The Information) reported, the product would be an AI “hardware device,” but there are no more details about it yet.

Artificial intelligence is taking over our lives and becoming an integral part of all new devices. Most new startups that come to life claim to incorporate AI into their operations. Meanwhile, older AI companies are exploring the idea of building AI hardware, including ChatGPT’s parent company, OpenAI.

OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Apple’s former chief design officer, Jony Ive, reportedly met to discuss what “new hardware for the AI age could look like.” The outlet states that both have just talked about the possibility of building AI hardware, and there’s yet to be a firm decision to make one.

OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Jony Ive might be developing an AI hardware

Jony Ive is a legendary designer who is well-known for his memorable works at Apple, including iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and iOS interfaces. He parted ways with Apple in 2019 to work on independent projects.

Altman has already worked with former Apple designer Thomas Meyerhoffer on his Worldcoin crypto project. Meyerhoffer was Ive’s assistant in designing the iMac, and he also designed the spherical retina-scanning Orb for Altman’s startup.

Altman’s connection with former Apple employees doesn’t end here. He’s an investor in Humane, a startup founded by ex-Apple staff. Humane aims to make wearable AI devices to replace smartphones. The startup also works with OpenAI to incorporate AI technology into its devices. A smartwatch with advanced AI capabilities and ChatGPT could be the result of this project.

If Altman and Ive ever decide to build their AI hardware, SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son is ready to step in and fund the project. Son is reportedly in talks with both about the project. With over $140 billion worth of investment in AI startups, SoftBank aims to become “the investment company for the AI revolution.”

Vivaldi browser is now available on iPhones and iPads

0
[ad_1]
Four years after its release on Android, Vivaldi browser is finally making its debut on iOS. Featuring a distinctive look and providing different experience to casual and advanced users, Vivaldi prides itself for being flexible and versatile.

Just like the Android version, Vivaldi for iOS starts with Speed Dials when launched. You can put here all your favorite sites organized the way you want, so when you launch the browser, they’re just one tap away.

Panels is positioned at the bottom-left corner of the app and allow users to quickly access useful tools like Bookmarks, History, Notes, Reading List, and Downloads. The Tab Switcher from the bottom-right corner lets users access regular, private, and synced tabs, as well as the trash can to retrieve recently closed tabs.

The Search tab and buttons for moving back and forth in History, in the middle. You can search for information directly in the Address Bar too. The Tab Bar with desktop-style tabs helps users view and switch between tabs smoothly.

Vivaldi keeps track of the open tabs thanks to the elegant desktop-style Tab Bar in the UI. It reminds me of Opera, but on desktop. The bottom line is that while the way Vivaldi keeps track of open tabs improves usability significantly, it’s not really unique, even for a mobile browser.

What’s unique to Vivaldi is the built-in Notes feature, which allows users to write down ideas, to-dos, and anything else worth remembering while browsing. Additionally, it’s possible to highlight any text and copy it into the Notes section of the browser.

More importantly, Notes can be synced between phone, desktop, and car. In fact, you can sync all your browsing data, including Bookmarks, Speed Dials, saved passwords, autofill information, typed History, and Notes, between installations of Vivaldi and other devices.

Vivaldi browser is now available for free via the App Store and is fully compatible with devices running iOS/iPad OS 15 or above.

Case Study: Blocking Botnet-Driven Low-Rate HTTP DDoS Attacks

0
[ad_1]
Botnet-Driven HTTP DDoS Attacks

Indusface research on 1400+ websites recorded a significant surge in DDoS attacks and bot attacks during Q2, 2023, compared to Q1, 2023. We observed a 75% surge in DDoS attacks and a 48% increase in bot attacks.

Moreover, recent trends in DDoS attacks indicate a significant evolution beyond the Mirai bot, leading to the emergence of next-generation botnets that pose a far greater threat. One of them is a low-rate-per-bot HTTP DDoS attack.

Low-rate-per-bot HTTP DDoS Attack

A low-rate-per-bot HTTP DDoS attack is a type of cyberattack where many compromised or controlled devices, often called bots, send a relatively small number of HTTP requests to a target web server or application over an extended period.

Unlike traditional botnet attacks that flood the target with massive requests, low-rate-per-bot attacks focus on stealth and persistence.

In this attack, each bot sends requests at a rate that is intentionally kept low to avoid triggering rate-limiting or detection mechanisms. However, the cumulative effect of these requests from numerous bots can still overwhelm the target server or application, causing service disruption.

Businesses are facing a growing number of cyber threats, particularly in the form of complex application attacks. This report, titled “The State of Application Security Q2 2023,” draws on data collected from over 1400 applications.

The primary objective of a low-rate-per-bot HTTP DDoS attack is to fly under the radar of security measures by mimicking legitimate user traffic. This makes it challenging for security solutions to differentiate between malicious and legitimate requests, as the attack traffic appears less notable due to the reduced request rate per bot.

Low-rate HTTP DDoS Attack against a Fortune 500 Company

How can organizations protect against these advancing DDoS attacks? An alternative approach to static rate limiting – is behavior-based DDoS protection, and that is what AppTrana does.

A few weeks back, our team, using the AppTrana platform, uncovered an HTTP DDoS attack aimed at an application within a Fortune 500 company. This attack was executed by a botnet consisting of thousands of individual bots.

The HTTP Flooding attack’s magnitude was 3000X to 14000X greater than the typical request rate per minute experienced by the website. Further, this attack used roughly 8 million unique IP addresses during its two-week control.

While effective against specific DDoS attacks, rate-limiting proved inadequate in this scenario since some IPs were sending just one request per minute, and adjusting the rate limit to such a low level was not a feasible solution.

What set this attack apart was its distinctive targeting of base URLs, many of which were either non-existent or not publicly accessible, such as /404, /admin, and /config.

The large surge in traffic on the application led to a decrease in speed, elevated bandwidth utilization, and disrupted the ability of legitimate users to access the services.

AppTrana detected all these anomalies, and our managed service team strategically deployed a customized solution to reduce these attacks to zero.

Examine the comprehensive approach and solutions provided by Indusface and the outcomes achieved here.

Recommendation To Protect Your Business From Bot Attacks

Based on our observations in the customer case study, here are some recommendations for enhancing DDoS attack mitigation strategies, focusing on more advanced threats.

  • Avoid applying rate limits at the domain level, as adding numerous URLs to a domain can reduce the per-page requests required to trigger rate limits. This may result in unnecessary blocking of legitimate requests or, if you compensate by increasing overall rate limits, allow too many malicious requests to pass through.
  • Instead, establish rate limits at the URL level to manage access to specific URLs or sets of URLs. You can set distinct rate limits for each URL, and servers may block requests exceeding these limits.
  • Customize request rates based on session duration (time spent logged in) to detect abnormal behavior that could signal malicious activity and proactively prevent server overload. For instance, we implemented a rule to block the IP accessing the customer URL more than 20 times a minute, as it is considered abnormal behavior.
  • Monitor rate limits at the IP address level to restrict the number of requests or connections from individual IP addresses. Implementing IP blacklisting, where known malicious sources are added to a blacklist, simplifies blocking traffic from IP addresses associated with DDoS attacks.
  • Consider implementing geographical-based rate limiting, which involves instantly assessing IP address reputations and geolocation data to verify traffic sources. As a best practice, we recommend incorporating geofencing as a standard measure for all local applications.
  • Adjust the tolerance level for bot modules to align with your business requirements and risk tolerance. We’ve shifted the tolerance level from high to low in this scenario.
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of the attack request trends over a specific time. Following the analysis, implement bot mitigation rules accordingly.

The company has also given us a glimpse of the device through official teasers. A couple of official promotional videos of the Galaxy S23 FE have now leaked to show it from the front.

Galaxy S23 FE promotional videos leaked

Posted on X by tipster @yabhishekhd, the first video promotes the phone’s triple rear camera setup. “Epic camera for creators is almost here,” Samsung says. The company has been referring to the Galaxy S23 FE‘s camera system as “the new epic” in official teasers in recent weeks. If you recall, “epic” is the term the Korean firm has associated with its S-series flagships for the past few years.

The upcoming FE phone features a 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. On the front, it houses a 10MP selfie camera within the tiny punch-hole cutout on the display. We are expecting some flagship-grade camera features here, including 4K video recording at 60fps (frames per second) with front and back cameras.

The second promotional video of the Galaxy S23 FE teases its “epic display.” Samsung says the phone’s 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen offers exceptional image quality for an enjoyable watching experience. The FHD+ panel (1080 x 2340 pixels resolution) has a 60-120Hz variable refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1450 nits. The phone houses an under-display fingerprint scanner.

Samsung will ship the device with the Exynos 2200 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor depending on the market. The SoC is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. iPhone SE 4 will be completely different from its predecessor

0
[ad_1]

We saw some iPhone SE 4 news a couple of days ago, as a rumor surfaced. That rumor claimed that the phone will have a 6.1-inch display, and the Apple A15 Bionic SoC. Now, a new rumor appeared, and it does not mention either of those details, but shares some other info, proving the iPhone SE 4 will be completely different from its predecessor.

The iPhone SE 4 will be different from its predecessor, considerably

The report comes from MacRumors. The iPhone SE 4 is known as ‘Ghost’, internally. That’s its codename. The phone will use the iPhone 14’s design, pretty much. It will have a modified chassis of the iPhone 14, while the iPhone 14 chassis is also used for internal testing.

The source claims that the phone will include both an Action Button and a USB-C port. Those are the two differentiating factors compared to the iPhone 14 design. Chances are it will not feature slightly curved edges like the iPhone 15 series, though.

It is also said that a single camera will be included on its back, along with an LED flash. It will have a similar alignment on the back to the third-gen iPhone SE. Apple seems to be testing two different designs. One includes a camera island with a camera and an LED flash included. The other has a camera bump protruding on its own from the back of the phone.

A 48-megapixel camera is expected, and the same display that the iPhone 14 rocks

A 48-megapixel camera is tipped to be included on the back of the phone. The iPhone SE 4 is also said to include an OLED display, probably the same as the iPhone 14 uses. So, a 6.1-inch panel.

Face ID will be included, there won’t be a Touch ID button as on the iPhone SE 3. If Apple aims to keep the front of the iPhone 14 design intact, the notch may return with the iPhone SE 4.

Apple is also developing its own 5G modem, codenamed ‘Sinope’. We’ve known this for a while, and the company wants to include it in the next ‘SE’ phone first. It was also supposed to be included in the iPhone 16 series, but that won’t happen. Qualcomm announced that it will be providing Apple with smartphone modems until at least 2026.

The iPhone SE 4 will not only be used for testing purposes, it will become an actual product

The source also says that rumors saying the iPhone SE 4 is used only for testing, not for public release, are almost certainly unfounded. Apple wouldn’t spend so much time on choosing the design for the phone, and testing so many different options.

The iPhone SE 4 is in the “early development process”, so some changes are still a possibility. Keep that in mind. We still don’t know when it will launch either.

This Pixel 8 feature will force you to smile in pictures

0
[ad_1]

Okay, Google, we get it; you have powerful AI, but this is a little creepy. The Pixel 8 just had about every detail about it leaked to the internet over the past couple of days. Not much has been left to the imagination. During this leak, we learned about this interesting (and creepy) face replacement tool coming to the Pixel 8 (via Android Police). It will come in handy if you want everyone in your photos to smile.

Right now, we’re very close to the official announcement of the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. These are going to be the most powerful Pixel phones, as you can imagine. Information on these phones is flooding in as we get closer to the official announcement. The Pixel event is expected to happen on October 4th, so you’ll want to mark your calendars.

The Pixel 8 will have this creepy face replacement feature

Among the massive leak, there was a promo video for the phone. This was not meant to be public until the actual event. However, Christmas came early this year. In the promo, we see some different features coming for the camera, and they show the usual improvements.

However, just under halfway through the video, we see a family picture taken on a Merry-go-round. The only person who’s smiling is the mother in the back. Dad is looking down, and the two children are making some weird, yet still adorable, faces.

Well, Google is not having any of that. According to the video, it seems that the Google Photos app will be able to detect when a person is not smiling. When that happens, the app will give you some suggestions for faces that it could use as a replacement.

In the video, we see the user replacing the sons’ and the Dad’s faces with smiling versions of the same faces. The company will use powerful AI to reconstruct the faces.

Now, you shouldn’t worry, as the company won’t do this by default. You’re most likely going to see this feature in the tools section along with Magic Eraser and others.

Key trends shaping IT staffing augmentation

0
[ad_1]

Businesses are constantly looking for new, creative methods to enhance their business practices and stay one step ahead of their peers in today’s fast-paced, technologically advanced world. Organizations are increasingly using IT staffing augmentation company to handle temporary projects and seasonal demands as the demand for IT knowledge soars. This tactical strategy not only makes specialized talents accessible but it also fits with new tendencies in the contemporary workforce. The Gig Economy, availability of remote work, and other significant advancements that are changing the way firms handle talent acquisition and staff administration are some of the important trends in IT staffing augmentation that we will discuss in this blog.

IT Staff Augmentation Trends to Follow in 2023

Following are some of the popular trends in IT Staff Augmentation that you need to keep an eye on in 2023.

1. Remote Work Revolution

The global pandemic hastened the remote work revolution, and this development has profoundly impacted how firms approach IT staff augmentation. It has become clear that remote work is a game-changer, providing businesses and employees with many advantages. Organizations can now access a wider talent pool that crosses geographical boundaries as remote work becomes increasingly common. This opens a whole new world of opportunities for staffing short-term projects and seasonal demands by enabling them to recruit top IT workers from different regions of the world, regardless of their physical location.

2. Embracing the Gig Economy

It is impossible to ignore the effect of the gig economy on the addition of IT employees because it has been growing. The Gig Economy and freelancing are becoming more and more popular, so conventional full-time work is no longer the sole choice for smart IT professionals. Businesses are starting to see the value of utilizing this enormous number of contract employees who have specialized abilities and are eager to put their talents to use on short-term projects.

To ensure optimal execution of projects and cost-effectiveness, the gig economy gives organizations the flexibility to acquire highly competent personnel for specialized activities. Using gig workers, businesses can access specialists who might only sometimes be able to work full-time, giving them access to various viewpoints and special problem-solving skills. Adopting the gig economy gives companies the flexibility they need to respond quickly to changing customer needs and to keep a competitive edge in the rapidly changing IT industry.

3. Upskilling and Reskilling

The requirement for specific IT abilities is always shifting as technology develops at a rapid rate. Corporations are making investments in reskilling and upskilling their current employees to be competitive and relevant. This development offers fresh options in the context of IT staffing augmentation.

Businesses seek to upskill and reskill their present personnel to fill temporary skill gaps rather of just relying on external hiring for short-term initiatives. Because employees feel empowered by new options for growth and development, this strategy reduces expenses and encourages employee motivation and loyalty.

Organizations can also build a more adaptable and agile team by spending money on the reskilling and upskilling of their staff. During IT staffing augmentation, employees with cross-functional competence can easily adapt to different projects, providing more fluid communication across augmented and current teams.

4. Specialized IT Staffing Agencies

Specialized IT staffing companies are more valuable to businesses as the need for IT personnel augmentation grows. The hiring procedure is more streamlined and efficient because to these organizations’ large networks of pre-screened and skilled IT specialists.

The proper IT workers can be matched with the right prospects thanks to specialized IT staffing firms that are knowledgeable about the needs of various industries and projects. Businesses can profit from their experience finding specialized talent and gaining access to a large talent pool, hence reducing hiring time and effort.

5. Data-Driven Staffing Decisions

Data is king in the digital era, and IT staff augmentation is no exception. Making educated judgments about the hiring of personnel and the distribution of resources requires the use of analytics and insights.

Businesses can discover patterns and trends that guide their IT personnel augmentation plans by reviewing prior project performance, skill requirements, and resource utilization. Better resource allocation, better project results, and cost efficiency are all results of data-driven staffing decisions.

6. Digital Transformation Services

Across all industries, organizations are prioritizing the current tide of digital transformation. The demand for specialist IT personnel to lead these efforts has increased as businesses use digital technology to increase productivity and improve customer experiences.

Procuring personnel with knowledge of digital transformation services is becoming a part of IT staffing augmentation. These experts perform important tasks by incorporating cutting-edge technologies, streamlining business procedures, and assisting firms on their digital transformation journeys. The need for experts in digital transformation is growing across all areas, including adopting cloud solutions, implementing AI and machine learning, and bolstering cybersecurity measures.

7. Hybrid Workforce Models

In the future, projects will be cooperatively driven by a mix of on-site and remote workers using hybrid workforce models. Businesses are looking for a mix of in-house IT personnel and remote contractors to develop agile and adaptable teams, which impacts the trend of IT staff augmentation.

Hybrid workforce models have benefits including 24/7 project assistance, access to a variety of skills, and cost effectiveness. In order to effectively augment IT employees, it is now necessary to combine on-site and remote workers, create strong teamwork, and take use of the best of both worlds.

8. Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives

Workforce management practices like IT staff augmentation are increasingly reliant on diversity and inclusion. Businesses now understand how crucial creating teams with different backgrounds, cultures, and viewpoints is.

Businesses are encouraged to look for diverse talent, provide equitable chances, and cultivate an environment that encourages innovation and creativity by using inclusive IT staffing augmentation methods. Accepting a range of viewpoints in IT staff augmentation improves problem-solving ability, enriches project outputs, and supports a pleasant workplace culture.

9. Emphasis on Soft Skills

While technical skills are vital for IT staffing augmentation, soft skills are gaining prominence too. Effective communication, collaboration, adaptability, and problem-solving are essential attributes for successful team dynamics, especially in remote work scenarios.

Businesses are now placing greater emphasis on hiring IT professionals with strong soft skills, ensuring smooth collaboration between augmented and existing teams. Soft skills complement technical expertise, facilitating seamless project execution and enhancing client interactions.

10. Continuous Learning and Development

Because of how dynamic the IT sector is, it is essential always to learn and grow. So, in order to find people who, value both personal and professional development, IT staffing augmentation has changed its focus.

Those in the IT industry with a growth mentality are in high demand because of their openness to new ideas and capacity to adapt quickly. IT staffing augmentation techniques that place a high priority on ongoing learning and development promote an innovative and future-ready culture within organizations.

Conclusion

As the world of IT staffing augmentation evolves, businesses are witnessing the integration of digital transformation services, hybrid workforce models, diversity initiatives, emphasis on soft skills, and continuous learning and development. These trends mirror the dynamic nature of the modern workforce and how it adapts to changing times. Companies that embrace these trends can harness specialized expertise, optimize resource allocation, and achieve successful outcomes in today’s competitive and digital-focused business landscape. Staying informed about these trends empowers organizations to unlock the full potential of IT staffing augmentation and propel their growth journey in the digital era.
