Huawei Mate 60 Pro does an amazing job in series of torture tests

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro was announced by Huawei quite recently. The phone launched in China, and it managed to get a lot of attention worldwide due to its SoC. This phone is equipped with Huawei’s chip capable of 5G connectivity despite the US sanctions. That’s a different story, though. In this article, we’ll talk about the Huawei Mate 60 Pro durability, as it was submitted to a series of torture tests, basically.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro does a great job in a series of torture tests

A YouTube channel called ‘PBKReviews’, which usually does teardowns and drop tests, tested the Mate 60 Pro. The phone was tested in a rather brutal way, in a series of drops, and was then mixed up with a bunch of sand in a bag.

The device did an outstanding job in these drop tests, proving its build quality. Huawei’s second-gen Kunlun glass, in particular, was the shining light here. That is basically Huawei’s replacement for Gorilla Glass.

The first-gen Kunlun glass did a great job on the Mate 50 Pro, and now it proved its prowess yet again. This glass is made by Huawei, and it’s ion-strengthened glass applied on both sides of the Mate 60 Pro.

Do note that the plastic screen protector was removed before this test began. So that both the front and back glass portions are exposed. The phone also doesn’t have a case or anything like that, as you can see in the provided video.

The phone was dropped repeatedly, and even got ran over by a car

First, the phone was dropped from face height, straight to the display, twice. Then, the person in the video did the same thing, but from the side. Several more drops followed, and he even ran the phone over by a car. No, that didn’t crack the glass either.

The phone also did a fine job resisting sand. The device is IP68 certified, so its dust resistance is expected, but this test was kind of out there. Either way, the phone did an amazing job, the video below is definitely worth watching.

HONOR CEO finds the iPhone 15 series disappointing

0
[ad_1]

HONOR CEO, George Zhao, decided to comment on the iPhone 15 series, as he believes the devices are disappointing. He said that in a recent interview, and he did elaborate on it.

HONOR CEO is not impressed with the iPhone 15 series

To be more accurate, this is exactly what George Zhao said: “When everyone can expect it before the launch, we feel a little disappointed”. Despite that, he believes that the iPhone 15 series will sell really well.

He did say that it lacks when it comes to innovation, though. He believes there is more than one area where the phones are lacking in terms of innovation, but he believes the form factor is the main one. He’s disappointed Apple is still only selling bar phones.

This is understandable, as HONOR recently showed off two truly innovative foldable phones in Berlin. The HONOR Magic V2 is the thinnest book-style foldable out there. The HONOR V Purse is an innovative, fashion-forward, and outwards-folding foldable smartphone.

HONOR is actually expected to announce the HONOR V Purse in China today, making it a product that will actually be available, not just a concept smartphone.

Apple doesn’t seem to be in a hurry when it comes to foldable phones

In any case, George Zhao, and everyone else, will have to wait in order to see a foldable from Apple. There are still no strong signs that Apple is remotely close to delivering something like that.

The company has been rumored to be working on foldable prototypes for a long time now. We haven’t really seen a concrete rumor regarding an actual launch. As per usual, Apple is waiting for everyone else to perfect something (in this case a different form factor) in order to jump in. The company is not in a hurry at all.

Apple did make a major move forward with the iPhone 15 series, though, as it finally included a Type-C port on the device. Truth be said, the EU forced Apple’s hand, but still, it’s nice to see.

Google Voice now protects you from spam text messages

0
[ad_1]

There are a ton of Google services out there. Google Voice is one that seems to be overlooked, both by customers and by Google itself. For the first time in a while, the company is pushing a new update to this app. According to 9To5Google, Google Voice will start telling you about spam text messages.

Google Voice might seem pretty redundant because of the other communication platforms that it already has. It’s a communications suite that allows you to make voice calls and send/receive text messages. This is different from Google Messages and the Phone app, however. When you set up Google Voice, you’ll be given a phone number that’s different from the one you have with your carrier. It’s almost like a “burner phone” account, but you do need a valid phone number to set up your account.

Google Voice will warn you about spam messages

Spam calls and messages are a major issue in this day and age. People get calls multiple times every day from random numbers, and it drives users wild. Carriers and phone OEMs alike have been battling the onslaught of spam calls that their users have to deal with.

Google Voice lets you know when you’re getting a call from a spam number, but spammers don’t only call. A fair amount of the time, scams are spread through text messages. These messages usually contain links to malicious sites or fool you into entering sensitive information.

This is an issue that Google Voice is combatting, as it’s possible to receive spam messages on that platform. If you get a message that raises any red flags, the message will be displayed with a red exclamation mark in place of the profile picture. Under the number, you’ll see red text saying “Suspected spam”. When you tap on the message, you’ll have the option to allow that message or mark it as spam. If you allow that message, then future messages from that number will not be flagged.

Google voice suspected message

This protection feature is coming to both the free and paid tiers for Google Voice. If you don’t see it just yet, then you might want to wait a bit for it to make it to you. You might also want to update the app on your phone.

How long does it take to afford the Apple iPhone 15 Pro globally?

0
[ad_1]

The Apple iPhone 15 series is out, and many of you are probably making up your mind about buying one of those four shiny phones. The starting price for the basic iPhone 15 is $799, soaring to $999 for iPhone 15 Pro and $1,199 for the Pro Max model. An iPhone 15 Plus (128GB) also costs you $899.

After releasing the price tag, the question that pops up in your mind is probably how long does it take me to afford an iPhone 15 Pro (128GB) in the US, and what is the situation for other countries? According to the international e-commerce platform Picodi, it takes around 5.3 days for an American citizen to afford the Apple iPhone 15 Pro (128GB). New York sales tax of 8.875% is also included.

American citizens need only 5.3 days of work to afford an Apple iPhone 15 Pro

If you think that 5.3 days to buy an iPhone 15 Pro in the US is unreasonable due to the current inflation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data reports the average wage in the states is $61,900.

The Apple iPhone 15 Pro price is the same price as iPhone 14 Pro. Last year, you needed 5.7 man-days to afford the iPhone 14 Pro. Likewise, in 2018, it took you 8.4 man-days to be able to buy an iPhone XS. Data shows that from 2018 onwards, US citizens needed fewer man-days to buy an iPhone at the same price as the iPhone 15 Pro.

What about other countries? The only country with a better rank than the US is the capital of world banking, Switzerland. It takes only 4.2 man-days for a person in Switzerland to buy an Apple iPhone 15 Pro. The following are Australia with 6.3 days, Luxembourg with 6.5 days, and Singapore with 6.7 days. Finally, Turkish citizens need to work 123.7 days to buy this phone, which is the highest in the world.

Other notable countries in the list are as follows:

– Canada (7.7 man-days)
– Ireland (8.4)
– German (9.5)
– U.K. (9.9)
– South Korea (10.1)
– France (10.2)
– Japan (12.6)
– Spain (15,5)
– Italy (16.6)
– Taiwan (18.7)
– China (23.5)
– Vietnam (55.6)
– India (55.9)

Elon Musk shares the vision for an entirely paid X

0
[ad_1]

Elon Musk has been making some controversial moves ever since he scooped up Twitter and transformed it into X. And it seems like he’s fixing to make another one that most people probably aren’t gonna be too thrilled about.

In an AI safety roundtable streamed live on X (via Android Authority), Musk talked about his idea to turn X into a fully paid platform. According to the owner of X, a small monthly fee is the only solution to tackle the massive swarm of bots on the platform. He didn’t share how much it might cost or any specific plans, though.

Every time a bot creator wants to use the platform, they would have to choose and use a new payment method. “It’s the only way I can think of to combat vast armies of bots,” Musk clarified. “Because a bot costs a fraction of a penny — call it a tenth of a penny — but even if it has to pay…a few dollars or something, the effective cost of bots is very high,” he pointed out.

A bot on a social media platform is a computer program that can do things like posting, liking, or following accounts without a person doing it manually. It can often lead to spreading fake information, spamming, and manipulating trends or engagement metrics. They can also reduce the authenticity of online interactions and potentially deceive users.

Turning X to a paid platform isn’t really a shocker, especially considering the recent changes. Most of the recent updates are focused on paid subscribers, offering goodies like extra-long 25,000-character tweets, video downloads, and job listings. Meanwhile, free users have been dealing with increasing restrictions, like limits on how many tweets or posts they can check out each day.

At the moment, the platform boasts about 550 million users every month. While a small monthly fee could help battle bots, turning X into a paid service for everyone might cause that number to shrink, as it appears not many users are eager to subscribe. According to an independent analysis, only 827,615 users are currently shelling out for the premium subscription, so convincing people to stick around if they have to pay might be a challenge.

You may not want to use the Pixel 9 for gaming

0
[ad_1]

Each year, we get a new and more powerful Pixel phone, surprising no one. While we’re still learning about the upcoming Pixel 8 series of phones, we just heard some rather concerning news about the Pixel 9. It appears that the Pixel 9 won’t get an upgraded GPU.

As years pass, new games come out that challenge phones’ hardware. Because of this, SOCs come out with upgraded GPUs to keep up. If a chip falls behind the times, it could hinder the gaming capabilities of hundreds or thousands of phones.

The Pixel 9 might not get an upgraded GPU

In the case of the Pixel series, these phones now use their own chipsets called the Tensor processors. The upcoming Pixel 8 phones are going to use the Tensor G3, and next year’s phones will use the Tensor G4.

Well, according to Tech_reve (via Android Authority), the Pixel 9 won’t see a massive increase in power over the Pixel 8. That is, at least, on paper. The leak claims that next year’s phone will use the same Immortalis-G715 GPU that will power the Pixel 8.

This sort of recycling of parts is definitely frowned upon in the tech world. People want their tech to be able to keep up with the times. Not only that, but it could go deeper. Apple recently announced the iPhone 15. The base model of that phone will use the same processor powering the iPhone 13. One could guess that this could be a move by Google to emulate what Apple is doing. Hopefully, that’s not the reason.

This move, however, might not be the worst move on Google’s part. Companies like Samsung, OnePlus, and others advertise how amazing their phones are at gaming; Google doesn’t. The company doesn’t angle its phones to be the most powerful high-octane devices on the market. They’re a conduit to showcase Google’s AI prowess and the latest versions of Android. So, if the Pixel 9 isn’t the best when it comes to gaming, that might not be the biggest blow. In any case, let’s just hope that this rumor isn’t true.

Galaxy S24 Ultra could avoid Exynos, unlike its siblings

0
[ad_1]

A few weeks back, a rumor surfaced that Samsung is planning to ship the Galaxy S24 Ultra with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor globally. The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+, on the other hand, were said to get the Exynos 2400 in some markets and the same Snapdragon chip in others. It appears the Korean firm has decided to go ahead with this plan. The same source recently confirmed the rumored processor split for the Galaxy S24 series.

In a new X/Twitter post, tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve) reiterated that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will only arrive in a single processor variant. Samsung will ship it with the overclocked, “for Galaxy” version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in all markets. The phone will come with 16GB of RAM and multiple storage options ranging from 256GB to a whopping 2TB. Samsung will equip the device with the latest M13 LTPO OLED display.

The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will also get the same display. However, Samsung will offer these phones in 8GB and 12GB RAM variants only. Storage options will reportedly include 128GB, 256GB, and more. As far as the chipset is concerned, the two models will get the same Snapdragon processor in the US, China, and a few other markets. The devices will ship with the Korean firm’s in-house Exynos 2400 SoC in the rest of the world, including Europe.

Samsung’s flagship Exynos chips are making a return with the Galaxy S24

It’s worth noting that some tipsters have claimed a similar processor split for the entire Galaxy S24 lineup. So despite Revegnus’s proven track record of Samsung leaks, you should be cautious with their latest claim. But either way, the return of Exynos chips to Galaxy flagships looks certain. The company used the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 “for Galaxy” on the entire Galaxy S23 series globally. Time will tell whether Samsung’s decision to go back to Exynos backfires.

That said, the 2024 Galaxy flagships are still several months away. We should get a clearer picture regarding their chipset split and other specs closer to their launch. Rumors are that Samsung will take wraps off the Galaxy S24 lineup in January, about two weeks earlier than the Galaxy S23 launch that took place on February 1, 2023. The new flagships could be accompanied by the Galaxy Ring, the Korean firm’s first-gen smart ring. We will let you know as soon as the rumor mill churns out more information about the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Ring.
