Benefits of using HARPA AI

Although similar in essence to Bing’s AI chatbot in ways such as AI-driven web searches, page-aware conversations, text composition, and web page summarization, HARPA AI distinguishes itself through its diverse automation and customization tools. These include personalized ChatGPT prompts, page-aware prompts for specific purposes like marketing and SEO, and content writing abilities, spanning from professional emails to SWOT analyses and articles.

Additionally, the extension can also provide YouTube video summaries, which users can configure based on their needs. Moreover, similar to Microsoft’s integration of Bing AI chatbot in Office apps, the HARPA AI extension integrates with both Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets to get instant help with formulas and allows users to create custom macros. Additionally, the recently unveiled Claude 2, which is also available in HARPA, enables more extensive and detailed responses than ChatGPT, along with improved skills in mathematics, coding, and reasoning. Moreover, Claude 2’s capacity to analyze 75,000 words at once renders it an exceptional companion for comprehending lengthy PDFs and research papers.

However, it is important to note that Claude 2 is only available in the U.S. and the U.K. Therefore, users who want to switch to using Claude 2 in HARPA will need to use a VPN to access it.

However, HARPA did acknowledge a potential instance of information sharing with the introduction of paid subscriptions. In such cases, user information would be shared with payment systems like Fastspring or Stripe during account creation.

Google’s efforts to integrate Bard in Search

When asked about whether Google’s plan to integrate Bard into Search would majorly impact HARPA since users would prefer a first-party solution, Aleksei highlighted the company’s unique proposition of incorporating various types of AI chatbots and stated, “While Google might introduce its AI solutions, HARPA sees this as an opportunity rather than a threat. Rather than competing with new AI like Bard, HARPA can integrate them alongside existing solutions such as ChatGPT, Bard and Claude. This allows HARPA to maintain its unique position, leveraging the best of various AI technologies.”

Privilege escalation is a commonly employed attack vector in the Windows operating system environment.

Attackers often leverage offensive tools such as Meterpreter, CobaltStrike, or Potato tools to execute code such as “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.” 

These tools typically employ token duplication and service manipulation techniques to perform attacks like LSASS tinkering.

RPC Mapper and BFE.DLL

The Deep Instinct security research team developed an RPC mapper tool for analyzing RPC methods. The BfeRpcOpenToken method, which is part of the Windows Filtering Platform, captured their attention.

The Windows Filtering Platform is a native platform that offers network traffic control capabilities based on various attributes like application, user, address, and port.

FWPUCLNT.DLL and BFE.DLL play key roles in extracting tokens. By calling FwpsOpenToken0, a handle is duplicated from BfeRpcOpenToken, effectively accessing the BFE service token. 

BfeDriverTokenQuery triggers BfeRpcOpenToken, leading to a device IO request to “WfpAle.” 

This device was created by the tcpip.sys driver becomes instrumental in the token extraction process.

Token query involves calculating a hash based on the LUID, iterating over a hash table, and identifying the appropriate entry. The token insertion function, WfpAleInsertTokenInformationByUserTokenIdIfNeeded, is explored, revealing its relation to IPSec.

Attack Techniques Developed by Researchers

By sending a device IO request, WfpAleProcessTokenReference is invoked, attaching the thread to the process space, duplicating tokens, and adding them to the hash table. Brute-forcing the LUID can lead to token duplication.

Configuring an IPSec policy can lead to token insertion into the hash table. The Print Spooler service is exploited to achieve this through RPC calls.

Manipulating User Service

Gaining the token of another logged-on user can facilitate lateral movement. 

The OneSyncSvc service, involving RPC calls and ALPC ports, is manipulated to achieve this. While these attack techniques are designed to be stealthy, they are not undetectable. 

The “NoFilter” technique highlights a sophisticated and covert approach to privilege escalation by exploiting the Windows Filtering Platform.

Security professionals are advised to stay vigilant, monitor for suspicious activities related to the Windows Filtering Platform, and explore ways to defend against such attacks.

Apple has been granted a new patent, which indicates the company is working on a smart ring, but there’s a catch. This smart ring won’t be fitness-focused, as most people would initially assume.

This patent details a ring that has a fixed center ring, and an outer ring around it, that can rotate. It would vibrate when you receive a notification. It is also envisioned to send inputs to companion devices. Devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, health monitoring devices, earphones, and more.

Samsung is also working on its own smart ring

The fact Apple is working on a smart ring doesn’t really surprise us, but a focus on notifications is somewhat surprising. As a reminder, Samsung is also working on a smart ring, allegedly. Samsung’s is allegedly close to completion, however, while Apple is not that close to the final product, it would seem. We cannot know for sure, though.

Smart rings do have great potential, but it’s difficult to make them do everything they’re supposed to do… and do it well, without being too bulky. It would be great if they served as notification gadgets, payment gadgets, and fitness wearables at the same time.

It remains to be seen if Apple will make something out of this patent. Just because the company patented something doesn’t mean it will come to fruition in the form of an actual product, of course.

So, right now, this feature is just an experiment. It is available to a limited number of YouTube users and only on Android. Since there is no real indication for you to check if you’ve got it, your best bet is to actually attempt to hum in order to find out.

Hence, steps:

  1. Turn on YouTube’s Voice Search, which should be as easy as tapping on the microphone icon on the search bar and then granting microphone access
  2. Hum a melody stuck in your head for at least three seconds
  3. Bask in the glory of the results!

Or, you know, come to the realization that the feature isn’t available to you just yet. Speaking of availability, there hasn’t been any mention of this making its way to YouTube Music either. Given the popularity of the music streaming service and the very concept of this new feature, it only makes sense that the Big G brings it over, which we hope happens.

As time goes on — and if Google is satisfied with the results from this limited testing — more and more users should start getting access to the feature. Hopefully, Google can add some sort of notification to make it easier to understand when you can try it out.

But as of now, only time can tell if this is one that will ultimately stick around as a permanent YouTube feature.

GroundPeony Group Exploiting Zero-day Flaw

A cyber attack group – GroundPeony, targeting the Taiwanese government, was discovered in March 2023; it used several tactics, such as tampering with legitimate websites for distributing malware, URL obfuscation, and multi-stage loaders.

Further investigations revealed that a China-nexus attack group was responsible for this attack that used CVE-2022-30190 which was commonly known as Follina. However, the attack group has now been termed as “GroundPeony” by nao-sec.

GroundPeony or UNC3347 (Uncategorized Groups)

GroundPeony has been found to be active since 2021, which targeted government organizations in East and South Asia, especially Taiwan and Nepal.

The group has been exploiting Follina and is speculated to have access to a zero-day or is capable of developing one. Due to these reasons, GroundPeony is considered to be an APT group with high attack skills and motivation.

In addition to this, the malware used by GroundPeony was found to be existent in VirusTotal since 2021 and their oldest attack campaign dates back between April to June 2022 during which attacks against Nepal, India, and other countries took place.

Technical Analysis

The APT group starts by sending a spear-phishing email, which consists of a DOC file embedded with a URL for a ZIP file download. Once the ZIP file gets downloaded, it contains an EXE file and a DLL file which are executed to infect malware.

Once an EXE file (Install.exe or 系統安全補丁.exe) has been executed, it copies the 4 files in the $RECYCLE.BIN folder to the mic directory in the C:\Program Data folder. Also, these 4 files are then renamed as mic.exe, version.dll, mic.doc, and mic.ver.

The mic.exe file is a legitimate EXE file containing a digital signature, whereas the version.dll file is a DLL for side-loading and a shellcode launcher for mic.doc. The mic.doc file is a shellcode downloader, and mic.ver is a config file for micDown.

Furthermore, a complete report on the malware has been published by nao-sec, which provided complete information on the malware behavior, obfuscation, methodologies, and other information.
