The phone will also include a 5,000mAh battery, and supports 120W wired charging. 50W wireless charging will also be supported. The tipster did mention 90W wired charging too, that’s probably reserved for the vanilla model, or perhaps the ‘Pro’ model in some markets.

That is basically all the information that we have at the moment. It will be interesting to see what is Xiaomi planning camera-wise. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra packs in outstanding camera specs, and offers great camera performance. So… that’ll be difficult to beat.

The phone is expected to arrive in December

Now, the Xiaomi 13 series launched in China last December. Chances are that the Xiaomi 14 series will arrive around the same time this year. We’re once again expecting two models, the Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro.

This leak does come early, so take it with a grain of salt, even though it’s from a trusted source, and the shared specs do make all the sense in the world. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra did not even launch globally, and we’re already talking about the Xiaomi 14 Pro specifications.

Speaking of which, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is expected to arrive to global markets soon. Its global price tag surfaced quite recently, and the phone will be a lot more expensive than it is in China.

This image got shared by Evan Blass, a well-known tipster who already shared a ton of information. He shared tons of seemingly-official images thus far, and even a 44-second ad that we talked about yesterday.

If you take a look at the image provided below this paragraph, however, you’ll see a bunch of renders of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra in a single image. This shows the phone from all sides, and you can see it in both folded and unfolded form.

One of the images even shows how its display will curve inside the device. You won’t actually see that curve from the outside, but that image does share more info. This is the so-called teardrop shape.

The display bends in that shape thanks to the hinge, and this enables the device to fold flat, and to minimize the crease at the same time. A number of smartphone OEMs have a similar approach.

The device will include a side-facing fingerprint scanner

You can clearly see that the device will include a display camera hole on the main display. The bezels around the main display won’t exactly be thick, not at all. A power/lock button on the side will double as a fingerprint scanner, and the phone’s volume buttons will sit on the same side.

Two cameras will be included on the cover display, and that panel will be large. It will be the largest cover display on any clamshell foldable, measuring 3.5 inches.

Motorola is actually said to include two 165Hz displays in this smartphone, and both will be pOLED panels. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will likely fuel the device, and if you’d like to get more spec info, click here.

Commercial PREDATOR Spyware

A commercial spyware product offered by the spyware company Intellexa (formerly Cytrox) has been described by Cisco Talos.

By designing deployment procedures that frequently call for little to no user engagement, spyware vendors go to significant efforts to make the final payloads challenging to identify, obtain, analyze, and defend against.

The delivery method is typically a chain of exploits that can begin with a zero-click exploit, like FORCEDENTRY, which is produced by the Israeli spyware company NSO Group, or with a link that the victim is tricked into clicking (i.e., a “one-click” exploit) like the one developed by the surveillance company Cytrox to deploy their spyware known as “PREDATOR.”

PREDATOR is an intriguing mercenary spyware that has existed since at least 2019.

It was created to be flexible so that new Python-based modules could be given without recurrent exploitation, making it very versatile and risky.

It has been determined that it utilizes to interact with the other spyware component that was deployed alongside it and is known as “ALIEN.”

The two parts enable the Android operating system to get around more established security measures.

“A deep dive into both spyware components indicates that Alien is more than just a loader for Predator and actively sets up the low-level capabilities needed for Predator to spy on its victims,” Cisco Talos said.

Spyware Attack Stages

Like the majority of spyware tools that have lately come to light, Intellexa’s spyware products have a variety of parts that may be categorized into three main categories that correspond to the attack’s various stages:

In exploit chains, the first two, exploitation and privilege escalation, start by taking advantage of a remote vulnerability to gain remote code execution (RCE) privileges, then move on to mitigation circumvention and privilege escalation—since the vulnerable processes are frequently less privileged—to complete the attack.

“While ALIEN and PREDATOR can be used against Android and iOS mobile devices, the samples we analyzed were specifically designed for Android,” Talos explained

“For privilege escalation, the spyware is configured to use a method called QUAILEGGS, or, if QUAILEGGS is not present, it will use a different method called “kmem.” The samples we analyzed were running QUAILEGGS.”

Cisco Talos proposed that Tcore could have used additional features, including camera access, geolocation tracking, and shutdown simulation, to eavesdrop on victims discreetly.

It is determined that the essential spyware functionality is included in the Tcore Python package. The native code of ALIEN and PREDATOR was analyzed, and the results show that the spyware can record audio from VOIP-based applications and phone calls.

Additionally, it can gather data from some of the most widely used programs, including Signal, WhatsApp, and Telegram. Due to peripheral functionality, applications can be hidden and can’t be run when a device reboots.

According to the assessment, KMEM offers arbitrary read and write access to the kernel address space.

“Alien is not just a loader but also an executor — its multiple threads will keep reading commands coming from Predator and executing them, providing the spyware with the means to bypass some of the Android framework security features,” the company said.

When combined, these components offer a range of information stealing, surveillance, and remote access capabilities. 

Talos does not have access to every aspect of the spyware. Therefore, this list of capabilities is not meant to be comprehensive.

If the spyware runs on a Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, or Xiaomi handset, it can also add certificates to the store and enumerate the contents of various directories on the disc.

The spyware comes as an ELF binary before creating a Python runtime environment.

It will recursively enumerate the contents of the following disc directories if any of these manufacturers’ names match:

Final Thoughts

Most commercial spyware is made for government use, and companies like NSO Group promote its products as being part of technology that aids in terrorist prevention, criminal investigation, and national security enhancement. 

However, in recent years, ethical and legal concerns have surfaced around these spying devices, which the security community has referred to as “mercenary spyware.” 

The Biden-Harris administration issued an Executive Order on March 27, 2023, which forbids the use by the U.S. government of commercial spyware that could endanger national security or has been exploited by foreign parties to enable human rights abuses in response to the rapid proliferation and growing concern regarding the misuse of these products.

The Nothing Phone (2) has an official launch timeline. CEO Carl Pei has confirmed that the company’s second-gen smartphone will debut in July. It will be a simultaneous global launch this time around. The phone will arrive in the US at the same time as the rest of the world.

Carl Pei revealed these details during a recent interview with Forbes. He didn’t share a specific launch date for the Nothing Phone (2), but the July timeline means the company is seemingly aiming for a yearly launch cycle of its smartphones. The Phone (1) debuted on July 12 last year.

The Nothing CEO also revealed that the Phone (2) will come with a slightly bigger battery. The new device packs a 4,700mAh battery, up from a 4,500mAh cell found in the Phone (1). Combined with the efficiency of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip that powers the phone (already confirmed by Pei), the Phone (2) is said to bring an 80 percent overall performance improvement over its predecessor. Pei didn’t share charging speed details, though. Last year’s model offers 33W wired, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless charging.

The Nothing Phone (2) will arrive in the US in July

Nothing is bringing the Phone (2) to the US, for real. You will be able to actually buy and use it stateside like any other phone, at the same time as people in other regions. That wasn’t the case with the Phone (1). Firstly, it arrived in the US almost six months after the global launch. Even then, it was just for “testing purposes” with the company offering a hefty discount on the phone to find any takers. It came with several compromises such as no warranty and incompatibility with most 5G bands.

But it’s a different story this year. Nothing is developing a US variant of the Phone (2). It will be FCC-certified (the Phone (1) that came in the US was a global variant with no FCC certification) and will support all wireless network bands stateside. The plan is to try and challenge Apple’s domination in the US smartphone market. “With the US being a very Apple-dominated market with no real option for people looking for an alternative, it represents a good opportunity for the Phone (2),” Pei said.

According to the Nothing CEO, the Phone (1) has “one of the highest rates of people switching from iOS to Android”. Pei claims it’s three to four times the average in some markets. The company seemingly believes it can win over a few Apple users in the US as well. “Apple is continuously gaining ground over Android, and there isn’t a real exciting alternative out there right now, especially for the younger generation,” Pei said. Time will tell whether Nothing can emerge as a worthy Android alternative to iPhones. The Phone (1) has reportedly sold 750,000 units so far, about half the total number of the first-gen iPhones sold.

That being said, the device scored 888 points in a single-core benchmark. It managed to reach 2,076 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. That’s basically everything that got revealed this time around.

We do have a lot more information about this phone already, though. This handset will be a rebranded version of the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite, which already launched in Asia. So we know what the phone will look like, and what specs will it offer.

The OnePlus Nord N30 5G will include a flat display, with a centered display camera hole at the top. Its bezels won’t be thick at all, while three cameras will sit on the back. Those cameras are spread out across two camera islands.

The phone will include a 6.72-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate

The device will feature a 6.72-inch fullHD+ IPS LCD display with a 120Hz refresh rate. We’ve already mentioned the SoC, RAM, and Android version that you’ll get. A 5,000mAh battery is also expected, and the same goes for 67W wired charging. A charger will be included in the box.

A 108-megapixel main camera will sit on the back, along with a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth camera. On the front, you’ll find a 16-megapixel selfie shooter.

The device will also feature a side-facing fingerprint scanner, and a set of stereo speakers. It will offer a plastic frame, and a plastic backplate, but do expect a good in-hand feel regardless.

Now that Microsoft deployed its chatbot to take on Google, we’re all wondering how far the apple fell from the tree. How does Bing AI compare to its parent? Well, here’s Bing AI vs. ChatGPT.

A comparison like this is necessary because, while chatbots like Bing AI and Snapchat My AI are based on ChatGPT, the companies behind them greatly alter the code in order to bring their own unique experiences. Companies can create an entirely discrete chatbot with a completely different mentality.

In this article, we’re going to look at how Bing AI and ChatGPT compare in five different categories: Speed, Conversational Skills, Information, Tips/Advice, and Written Content.

Bing AI vs. ChatGPT: Speed

For a bit, ChatGPT was one of the slowest chatbots on the market. You can see it typing out all of the letters one by one. However, its speed has greatly increased thanks to a recent update. Bing AI also types out its responses, but ChatGPT absolutely beats it when it comes to speed.

I asked both chatbots to generate content with 100, 200, and 250 words, and ChatGPT beat Bing AI by a pretty significant margin. It took Bing AI 17 seconds to generate a 100-word response while it took ChatGPT 9 seconds. It took Bing AI 26 seconds to generate a 250-word response while it took ChatGPT only 20 seconds to do the same.

ChatGPT is clearly the winner when it comes to speed, and there are two main reasons why. Firstly, Bing AI has to do a search before delivering the answer. I typed in “Explain how to fly a kite in 200 words”, and it did a Bing search on how to fly a kite and then started generating the response. This always takes several seconds. Lastly, the rate that it generates the text is all around slower.

Bing AI vs. ChatGPT: Conversational Skills

The thing about Bing AI’s conversational skills is that it provides three different conversation modes: Creative, Balanced, and Precise. For this comparison, I’ll be using the Creative mode, as it’s the more conversational mode.

When it comes to conversational skills, I’ll have to give another victory to ChatGPT. Sometimes, there comes a point in the conversation where ChatGPT will cut off the conversation and ask if there’s something else that you want to look up. Bing AI, on the other hand, won’t do that. It will ask additional questions and keep the conversation going.

However, Bing’s approach is much more plastic. When chatting with ChatGPT, the responses feel more natural. It will progress the conversation in a manner that you’d expect from a human.

Bing, on the other hand, will toss questions out just for the sake of continuing the conversation. Note how I said “Continuing” and not “Progressing”. Bing AI would ask questions that pertain to the information in the response but not the conversation as a whole.

I started a conversation about hanging out with my friend Jessica which quickly turned into talking about Super Saiyan Goku Funko Pops. It swiftly forgot all about Jessica.

Bing AI vs. ChatGPT: Information

ChatGPT pulled some victories, but providing information is where Bing AI has its parent chatbot stumped. One of ChatGPT’s biggest flaws is its limited knowledge of the world. At the time of writing this article, ChatGPT’s knowledge stops at 2021. So, it’s two years behind the times, and that can really limit its capabilities. It has a ton of information, don’t get me wrong, but it’s still a limitation.

Bing AI, on the other hand, has the Bing search engine. It’s connected to the Internet, so it can provide you with up-to-date information.

That’s great for Microsoft’s chatbot, but there’s an area that ChatGPT has it beat, and that’s presentation. When you request information from ChatGPT, you’re given separate paragraphs, and you typically get bullet points as well. This helps the reader when reading it. As for Bing AI, everything is presented in one solid block of text.

Also, ChatGPT’s responses are typically more fleshed out. BingAI’s responses are more concise, but not by much. They’re still more fleshed out than Google Bard’s answers for the most part. ChatGPT just gives you more information for each response. This was even while using the Creative conversation mode with Bing AI.

So, ChatGPT’s presentation and responses are better, but BingAI wins overall by being able to provide up-to-date information.

Bing AI vs. ChatGPT: Tips/Advice

The story is much the same when it comes to tips and advice: ChatGPT is more fleshed out, Bing AI is more to-the-point, and the latter manages to pull ahead due to some added ability.

When asking for tips or advice on something, both chatbots will give you a bullet-pointed list of items to follow. ChatGPT will start you off with a short intro and then list the items. After that, it will give you a short closing paragraph. Each bullet point is a paragraph in and of itself.

Bing AI will give you a list with fewer items, and each bullet point will have less information. It may have an introduction paragraph, but that’ll typically just be a sentence.

Bing AI pulls ahead with its connection to the internet. When you look for advice on a subject, it will often give you videos showing you how to do the thing that you want to do. It will also bring up other pages that you could look into for additional information.

Bing AI vs. ChatGPT: Written Content

This is where ChatGPT takes back the crown. Bing AI is an information portal down to its source code. While it does have generative capabilities, they’re far outmatched compared to ChatGPT’s.

Bing AI can generate pretty much anything that ChatGPT can, but the latter produces much higher-quality content. Stories are longer with more details, scripts have more character development and better reflect the format you see in Hollywood, etc. The thing is that Bing AI isn’t trying to be your digital author, it’s meant to be the companion to the search engine.

The apple turns out to be an orange

Bing AI, being borne from ChatGPT, leads us all to think that these two chatbots would be mirror images- Bing AI is just ChatGPT with a pretty face. However, that’s not the case.

While ChatGPT is meant to be a digital Swiss army knife able to generate responses about just about anything, Bing AI is heavily tied to the search experience. It’s designed to take in your inquiries and funnel in search results, recommendations, images, and links.

You should use Bing AI if:

  • You want shorter responses
  • You want up-to-date information
  • You want the sources for your information
  • You want to swiftly do a search after getting your response

You should use ChatGPT if

  • You’re going to be generating written content
  • You want more detailed responses
  • You want a more conversational chatbot
  • You want faster responses
  • You want better-formatted responses

Google Pixel smartphones enrolled in the Android 14 beta program have a massive bug-fixing update coming their way. The company has released the Android 14 Beta 2.1 with fixes for several bugs found in previous beta builds, including the issue that blocked users from opting out of the beta program. It comes about two weeks after the Beta 2 release at Google I/O 2023 earlier this month.

Early beta builds of new software are never stable and often come riddled with bugs. It was no different with Android 14 Beta 1, which came in the second week of April. It contained plenty of annoying issues. Google fixed a bunch of those with Beta 1.1 a couple of weeks later. A few more of those were patched with Beta 2, which rolled out after a two-week gap too. Now, two more weeks later, the company has released Beta 2.1 to further polish Android 14 and iron out more known bugs.

The most notable problem that Android 14 beta users have been facing is the inability to opt out of the beta program. While they could leave the beta program, their Pixel wouldn’t let them complete the setup process after the mandatory restart. Google has fixed this problem with Beta 2.1. However, users are required to first install the new build before opting out. That’s because the fix isn’t backward compatible with the previous beta build (Beta 2).

Once installed (either through an OTA update or manually flashing the new firmware), Pixel users need to reset their screen lock (pin, pattern, or password). You can reuse the same pin, pattern, or password again. But you must go to Settings > Security & privacy > Screen lock and reset it. Doing this will solve the issue, allowing you to leave the beta program. You should no longer face any issues during setup. But if you want to continue, Beta 2.1 will give you a more reliable experience.

According to Google’s release notes, this update gets rid of a problem that caused the battery percentage to always show 0% regardless of the actual charge level of the device. It also fixes various issues with speakers, always-on-display, Android Auto, Google Photos, Google Contacts, Google Messages, and picture-in-picture mode in the Google TV app. If your Pixel is enrolled in the Android 14 beta program, watch out for an OTA update. The new build number is UPB2.230407.019. You can also download the OTA image from here and manually flash it on your eligible Pixel.

As for what products we will see at the event, only Samsung knows. We are expecting new bespoke refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, and other home appliances. The company will live stream the Bespoke Life 2023 event on June 7 globally. You can watch it on its official YouTube channel as well as Samsung.com.

Galaxy Unpacked may follow in July

The launch of Samsung’s new home appliances in June should be followed by another big hardware event in July. Rumors are that the next Galaxy Unpacked will take place in late July, about two weeks earlier than last year. The event will bring the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 foldables, Galaxy Tab S9 series flagship tablets, Galaxy Watch 6 series smartwatches, and possibly a new pair of TWS earbuds.
