Following the Huawei Mate 60 series that launched quite recently, Huawei has just announced its Mate X5 foldable too. Much like the Mate 60 Pro, the Huawei Mate X5 also comes with a Kirin chip, the same one included in the Mate 60 Pro. We’re talking about the Kirin 9000s, of course.

The Huawei Mate X5 is now official, and it supports 5G connectivity

Before we get down to it, some of you may be wondering why is this device called the Mate X5, and not the Mate X4. The Mate X3 did launch back in April after all. Well, the number 4 is considered to be unlucky in China, and Huawei is not the first company to skip it.

When it comes to this phone’s design, it looks very similar to the Mate X3. There is a slight difference in the design of the camera island, but that’s basically it. You’re still getting a display camera hole on each of the two displays, while it seems like both eco leather and ‘Feather Sand’ backplate models will be available. The phone includes three cameras on the back, Huawei’s XMAGE setup. More on that soon.

Two gorgeous 120Hz displays are included

There is a 7.85-inch main display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and a 2496 x 2224 resolution. The external display measures 6.4 inches, supports a 120Hz refresh rate, and it has a resolution of 2504 x 1080 pixels. This display also supports 1440Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.

The Kirin 9000s SoC fuels the phone, while the company offers 12GB and 16GB RAM models. The 12GB RAM model includes 512GB of storage, while the 16GB RAM variant comes in both 512GB and 1TB flavors. The storage is also expandable.

A 50-megapixel main camera (f/1.8 aperture) is backed by a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.2 aperture). A 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (f/3.4 aperture, OIS, 5x optical zoom, 50x digital zoom) is also included on the back. On each of the displays, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera.

Fast wired & wireless charging is supported here

A 5,060mAh battery is used here, while the phone supports 66W wired charging, and 50W wireless charging. The device is also IPX8 rated for water resistance, and it supports 5G connectivity thanks to Huawei’s chip.

Bluetooth 5.2 is also included, as is USB 3.1. When folded, the Huawei Mate X5 measures 156.9 x 72.4 x 11.08mm. When unfolded, it measures 156.9 x 141.5 x 5.3mm. The vegan leather model weighs 243 grams, while the ‘Feather Sand’ version weighs 245 grams.

The phone has been announced in five color options

The phone also supports two-way Beidou satellite SMS, and comes with HarmonyOS 4 out of the box. The device comes in Feather Black, Feather Gold, Feather White, Green Mountain Dai, and Phantom Purple colors. We still don’t know the phone’s price.

The Huawei Mate 60 series won’t be launching globally, and the same could be the case with the Mate X5. We’ll see.

Google Maps now allows users to find their favorite places faster using emojis

With the Google Maps app, you can tap the Saved tab on the bottom of the screen to create lists of places where you want to go or your favorite places. Just the other day Google posted on its Google Maps’ X account that thanks to a new update to the app “you can customize your saved places with emojis to help you find your fav spots faster.” The emoji are the same ones available in messages so you can use a food emoji, a sports emoji, or any emoji you wish to symbolize a place that you’ve saved.
To add an emoji, open Google Maps and press the Saved tab at the bottom of the screen. This won’t work with the default lists that come with Google Maps such as “Want to go,” “Favorites,” “Travel plans,” “Labeled,” and “Starred places.” You’ll have to create your own list or edit an existing list that you created yourself. In a video shared by Google on X, a new list named “Fav Coffee Spots” is created. Select an emoji for the list, which in this case is a cup of coffee, and add a description. Now, just add the spots you want to add to the list.
Once you’ve filled out the list, when you see one of these spots on Google Maps and you’re close to the location, you’ll see the name of the place with the chosen emoji next to it. If you zoom out on the map, you’ll see only the emoji. We assume that Google made this change because unlike a pin stuck in a map, an emoji can convey more information to the user. Using emojis, you’ll be able to quickly determine if a certain spot on a map is one of your favorite coffee houses, a favorite ice cream parlor, or a burger joint you visit often without having to tap on the location.

With so many different emojis to choose from, the user can use them to make finding his/her favorite spots faster on Google Maps.

Researchers Uncover Phishing Empire Attacking 56,000+ Microsoft 365 Accounts

Recent reports indicate that a new threat actor named “W3LL” has been discovered running a large phishing empire completely hidden until now. It was also found that this threat actor played a major role in compromising Microsoft 365 business email accounts over the past few years. 

Furthermore, the threat actor was also running a hidden underground market with the name “W3LL Store” that served a phishing kit called “W3LL panel” and 16 other fully customized tools that can be used for Business Email Compromise (BEC) Attacks.

Evolution of W3LL

As per the reports shared with Cyber Security News, this cybercriminal actor has been active since 2017, when they built their first tool, W3LL SMTP Sender, which was used for bulk email spam. They further developed their version of the phishing kit for targeting corporate Microsoft 365 accounts and opened their own Marketplace W3LL Store in 2018.

W3LL stores have been reported to have more than 500 active users with more than 3800 items sold, and their revenue is estimated to be half a million dollars over the past 10 months.

Phishing Kit subscription – $500

W3LL Panel is their greatest tool that has one of the most advanced phishing kits in class, which also features adversary-in-the-middle functionality, API, source code protection, and other unique capabilities.

Many sophisticated threat actors currently use a three-month phishing kit subscription for $500 due to its high efficiency. Every copy of the W3LL Panel must be enabled via token-based authentication to prevent reselling and source code stealing.

More than 850 unique websites were found to be attributed to the W3LL Panel, and threat actors used this tool to initiate a Business Email Compromise Attack with over 56,000 corporate Microsoft 365 business accounts, and more than 8,000 (about 14.3%) of them ultimately compromised.

“W3LL regularly updates its tools, adding new functionalities, improving anti-detection mechanisms, and creating new ones, which underlines the importance of staying up-to-date with the most recent changes in their TTPs.” reads the post by Group-IB.

This smartphone has been rumored for a while now, and its design did surface not long ago. This phone will follow the Phantom V Fold, which arrived back in February. That was the company’s first foldable, and a book-style smartphone.

Now, in addition to the Phantom V Flip, Tecno confirmed that the MegaBook T1 2023 laptop is coming too. That will be the company’s 14-inch laptop, and it will come with Windows out of the box, almost certainly.

Tecno says that the Phantom V Flip will be its “premium offering with imaginative, cutting-edge technological and aesthetic design”. The company did not share any specifics about the device, though.

The phone is expected to include a circular cover display

Based on a recent leak, however, we do expect it to feature a circular cover display. That design does look very interesting, to be quite honest. We’re also expecting a display camera hole on the main display.

Tecno is expected to utilize one of MediaTek’s processors inside of this device. The Tecno Phantom V Fold came with the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ SoC. Tecno could stick with the same SoC, or make a jump to the Dimensity 9200, we’ll see.

All in all, we’re expecting it to offer quite compelling specs, and a more affordable price tag than its competitors. We do expect it to cost less than the Galaxy Z Flip 5, OPPO Find N2 Flip, and Motorola Razr+.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ has been announced in China, and it has an even better camera setup than the Mate 60 Pro. As many of you know, the Mate 60 Pro arrived more than a week ago.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ is now official with an even more powerful camera setup

That being said, these two phones do have a lot in common. Their designs are basically identical, and they also share plenty of internals. There are some differences, though, mainly in the camera department.

As you can see in the provided images, the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ has very thin bezels, and three display camera holes. This phone does support advanced facial scanning, which is why. This does give it a rather unique look, though it won’t appeal to everyone.

Three cameras sit on the back of the phone, inside an interesting-looking circular camera island. The phone comes in Black and Beige colors, and has a half-circle accent on the back, which makes it easier to tell apart from the Mate 60 Pro.

Huawei’s new Kirin 9000s processor fuels the phone, and the device supports 5G

This smartphone is fueled by the Kirin 9000s too, just like the Mate 60 Pro and Mate X5. That is Huawei’s new processor manufactured by SMIC. It does support 5G connectivity, as Huawei managed to avoid US sanctions here. That chip is approximately as powerful as the Snapdragon 888, based on benchmarks.

A 6.82-inch display is included on the front of this phone. That panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate, and it’s an LTPO panel (1-120Hz adaptive). 1440Hz PWM dimming is also supported, while the touch response rate is 300Hz. The resolution here is 2720 x 1260 pixels. Second-gen Kunlun glass protects this display.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ has 16GB of RAM, and it comes in 512GB and 1TB storage options. That storage is also expandable, by the way. A 5,000mAh battery is also included here, and it supports 88W wired, and 50W wireless charging. 20W reverse wireless charging is also on offer.

There are three cameras included on the back, and the main one offers variable aperture

A 48-megapixel main camera (f/1.4-f/4.0 aperture, OIS) is included on the back. It’s backed by a 40-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.2 aperture), and a 48-megapixel super macro telephoto camera (f/3.0 aperture, OIS, 3.5x optical zoom, 100x digital zoom). A 13-megapixel ultrawide camera (f/2.4 aperture) sits on the front, in addition to a 3D depth camera.

The phone supports Bluetooth 5.2, and USB 3.1 (Type-C). It is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, and HarmonyOS 4.0 comes pre-installed on the phone.

The Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ measures 163.65 x 79 x 8.1mm, while it weighs 225 grams. The price has not been revealed just yet.

Galaxy S23 FE might carry an unchanged price tag in this country

Samsung is expected to launch a new Fan Edition (FE) smartphone later this year. The Galaxy S23 FE will arrive as the successor to the Galaxy S21 FE, which debuted in January 2022. Leaks have already revealed its design and detailed specs. Now, we have the phone’s alleged price as well, at least for one country.

According to tipster Abhishek Yadav, the base variant of Galaxy S23 FE (128GB storage) will be priced at ₹54,999 (approx. $660) in India, one of Samsung’s key smartphone markets globally. The 256GB variant of the phone will cost ₹59,999 (approx. $720), the tipster claims. That’s the same starting price as the Galaxy S21 FE. The Korean firm charges ₹74,999 for the “flagship” Galaxy S23 with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

It’s worth noting that the Galaxy S21 FE started at $700 in the US, with the 256GB variant costing $750. It’s unclear if Samsung will keep the same pricing structure for the Galaxy S23 FE stateside. Well, it would be suicidal if the company increased the price this year. The Galaxy S23 costs $800, so a more expensive FE model might be a tough sell. Like in India, the Galaxy S23 FE may keep the price tag unchanged over its predecessor in the US.

Interestingly, Samsung recently launched the Snapdragon 888 version of the Galaxy S21 FE in India, priced at ₹49,999. It’s still selling for the same price. The original version, which shipped with the Exynos 2100 chipset, is no longer available. The phone was last selling for around ₹30,000 before Samsung discontinued it. The Snapdragon 888 version may also be discontinued once the Galaxy S23 FE hits the market.

We’re still waiting for Samsung to confirm the Galaxy S23 FE launch

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have official confirmation about the Galaxy S23 FE’s launch. Some rumors said the phone will arrive in September, but there’s no sign of it. Meanwhile, some others have claimed a Q4 2023 launch of the new FE handset. Samsung reportedly plans to unveil it alongside a bunch of other devices, which include a few more FE-series products.

We are expecting the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE+ from the Korean firm in the coming months. It’s also working on a new pair of TWS earbuds, and those may arrive as the Galaxy Buds FE too. Additionally, Samsung has the Galaxy Tab A9, Galaxy Tab A9+, and Galaxy SmartTag 2 in the pipeline. It remains to be seen if the company unveils all of these products on the same day.
